Hi Shonda & Mom, I just cooked a bag Aunt Bessie's today. They were a very nice clean bag I got. I use baking soda + white or red vinegar to clean mine and I use ice cubes & a frozen bottle water to keep them cold while cleaning, I🎉 repeat wash 2-3 xs. I use red & Orange bell pepper, onions, small red potatoes, garlic powder, blk pepper, Goya Adobo all purpose seasons,, 1/2 chicken cube, 2/5th chicken broth & a dap of, SaZO'N GoYA orange color season to taste, Parsley Flakes, 1 lg. Or med.Bay Leaf, and I boil them 2xs with a white potato 1 in pot and 1 over the top of the steam hole, I then return to stove to cook after cleaning, with red potatoes all the season's & you talking bout sooo Delicious 😋 OH Yes!!!! Just wanted to share ❤
Alright since you work there could you verify that aunt bessie is a different product than whats in those buckets. Aunt Bessie is the cecum sac thats why they are closed on one end unlike regular chitterlings which is opened on both ends. Aunt bessie is like a sock and is a different part of the intestine. Am i correct?
NO. the only reason people are used to the old school red bucket, those are so dirty you had to take the membrane off in order to get all the dirt off. In the old days that was the process so thsts how people continue to do it today because thats how they were taught with the red bucket
I grew up eating chittlins but haven’t had them in years. My folks used to buy the red bucket chittlins. I’m sure they wished they’d had some Aunt Bessie’s. Those things were clean! Thanks for sharing!
Yes. I grew up on the red buckets as a child. I even remember the horror of cleaning the ones in the red bucket trying to help my mom for Christmas dinner. These were so easy to clean I got 5 bags and they were very clean, just membrane layer needing to be removed. And some membranes would come off with one pull. These were by far the easiest brand for me to clean.
@@CookinWTaShondaRenae 🤣🤣🤣 I hear that! I do chitllins every other year or so. Two years ago couldn't get Bessie's so did the red bucket. MY GOD, Took THREE 1/2 HOURS! And the stuff you picked out....!!! But to be honest, after all the trouble, mine are still GREAT tasting.
For me, it makes sense to buy the 10 pound bucket rather than Aunt Bessie's given that I will still clean off the membrane in Aunt Bessie's and only end up with 2-3 pounds of hers when I can still end up with 5-6 pounds after cleaning the bucket. The work in cleaning them is worth it with the finished product, plus I've only paid a fraction of the cost.
In my area the red bucket is the same price as Aunt Bessie’s. Sometimes even more. This year they were up to $30 per bucket. The Aunt Bessie’s is worth it for the smell alone. I understand your sentiments though.
@@CookinWTaShondaRenae oh my goodness! Isn't that awful that the bucket is that expensive? I really don't understand this price gouging of chitlins of all things 😩😩. Yes, I don't blame you for buying the bags.
People still take the lining off purely because thats how they were taught. I was taught like that also. Aunt bessie is a totally different product so it requires a different cleaning pro ess. And to me when you remove all the membrane your removing most of the flavor. I do it both ways depending on which product im working with
They are 29.99 here in Indiana. Just cleaned me 6 bags last night and let them slow cook over night. They are so good and tender 😋 I haven't had any in years and was craving some this Thanksgiving.
Aunt Bessie chitterlings are the best to cook for thanksgiving because it takes less time to clean and cook. I don't use salt because some of my family have high blood pressure so no salt i let them add it on th there own. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. They look good.
It's true, Aunt Bessie are clean. They are too clean. The red bucket taste better to me. Even my dad says Aunt Bessie are hard to tender. I only eat chitterlings at Thanksgiving or Christmas.
I don’t remove the membrane on Aunt Bessie’s chitterlings. they are so clean when I used to do the buckets then I did remove the membrane because they was full of stuff. Aunt Bessie’s are good with the membrane on. Try it
My family loves chitterlings I grew up eating Wilson's for years they're ones in the buckets mom would cook at lest 60-70 pounds of Wilson's around Thanksgiving Holiday. Now she's gone. My Sister now fixes them. She loves Aunt Bessie brand the best. They come from Denmark. My Nephew use to fix the but now he's working.
My older cousin Mother in law had 13 children with her husband. Her daughter stated that she use to start cleaning chittlins in September for Thanksgiving. She prepared a huge amount.
🤣😂”for slop” a little while back here the chitlins were $50 over here and my baby was like for poop in a bag but I don’t eat them they are so rich in flavor . I have eaten them in the past but I have never cook them myself I only would eat them with my brother made them
😂😂😂 your mom said she's not making soup she's making chitterlings I totally agree I omit the onion only because I've never had them that way and just use salt, pepper, and crushed red pepper flakes simple and delicious! Thanks for video #looksdelish
I’m gone tackle the infamous red buckets😫for Christmas. Y’all know the ones, Smithfield or Wilson’s😩. I know I got to do 40lbs, because of family🥹. People will swear they don’t like them🤥😒till they get to your house, and see that big silver pot on the stove. It’s game over then🫤🙄🤨. I use to watch my mom clean 40-50lbs as a child. She would be up all night, and I would just stay up too🥹watching her.
@@CookinWTaShondaRenae girl! $64 ??? Ain’t no f****** way! lol The same bags you showing are $19.95 here in Nashville TN Where I Live an $29.99 For The Bucket I Almost Had a Damn Heart Attack 😂😂
After the first cooking you supposed rinse the chitterlings again before cooking them completely. The reason for the first cooking process is to make sure everything clinging is completely off.
Aunt Bessie’s are different. That smell is not present while cooking as it is with the red bucket, at least for us. We’ve tried the potato trick in the past! Thanks for watching 😊
You dont get that strong smell with these. I had a guest to stop by while i hsd some cooking, they didnt even know i had em on. With that bucket the smell hits you as soon as u step foot in a house
I personally have never found any corn, hay or black specs in aunt bessie chits. If i do i would remove that particular membrane if its trapped between the layers
$32 dollars a pack (5lbs)at meat city NJ but I just say $6.40 a pound…cheaper then the $30 a pound I spent on Scallops last week and chitlins are my favorite meal so it’s worth it to me 😋got 10 packs for me and the family
In Atlanta at Wal-Mart they are 18.99 a 5lb bag but the buckets are 26.74. Red bucket so we went with bags of course. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.
It’s imperative that you PULL THAT MEMBRANE OFF PEOPLE‼️ Otherwise you chew those things, literally, FOR DAYS! Plus I was taught to clean them by a good ole country boy/man, who did a job of cleaning them, for his family’s restaurant‼️ His and mine… will melt your mouth!!!😋😛
If u chewing loke that you didnt cook em long enough. You do need to cook longer with membrane and they will be butter soft if u do it rite. Ive done it both ways msny times
What product was he cleaning? The bucket or aunt bessie? Totally different product. Actually aunt bessie is the secum sac, its a dufferent part of the intestine. Chitlins are long and open at both ends, aunt bessie is closed on one end because its a sac. U being a farm boy knows chitterlings does not have a closed end. Aunt bessie looks like a sock
She clean them right but you don't pour the water off that's where all your season in that fatty water. You skim the foamy stuff off and your seasoning were already in there that'll help with the foamy stuff and for real if it's a lot of foamy they could be a tiny bit cleaner. I grew up on a farm watch the old women's, my mom included do this 8 or more times a year for home and neighborhood. Not meaning to be negative just to learn something new you didn't know. 😊
Well, once they’ve been cleaned properly, you should no longer “smell” them. The stench should be gone but they will still smell like what it is. If that makes sense.
Aunt Bessie's website has a store locator. However, mine wasn't accurate at all. I had to keep calling around. Cub Foods (MN) carries them if you have that store in your neck of the woods. The Cub Foods in the suburbs may not have them. I lucked out and found mine between the Twin Cities and the sticks were I live. lol 40 minute drive. 😬
I dnt do this brand. The texture is like paper and never seems to get tender. It’s a strong no for me. I’ll just clean the Smithfield ones that come in a red bucket.
No, they are not. They are manufactured by Symington's. Totally different company. If you’ve ever had Aunt Bessie’s, you know they are absolutely different than what’s in the red bucket. Aunt Bessie’s look like a sock compared to Smithfield’s.
Is removing the membrane just a preference thing? What would be the difference in having it vs not having it attached? I don’t eat them either. Just wanted to know.
They hardly have any taste when u take it off. Ive done it both ways at the same time different pots, membrane on tasted wayyyyy better and this was a side by side test with same exact seasonings
I'm with your Mom...maybe somebody who doesn't like Chitterlings shouldn't be the one to narrate the commentary! In fact, I'm wondering why after you asked her does she always remove the membrane, and she said no.... why she was removing the membrane during your filming? I would have actually enjoyed watching it (and 'liked' it) if you hadn't been getting on my nerves!
These chitterlings weren’t clean properly. You must peel the inner lining completely no matter how they look clean on the outside! Take the membrane OFF. You must discard the skin from the MEAT!
@@CookinWTaShondaRenae Lady if you can’t stand the heat get out of the kitchen. You’re the one on here trying to clean CHITTERLINGS!😩 😩 Some of ur ppl won’t be joining you after they see this video.😂😂
You didn’t show the knob/temp on the stove when she started cooking them after the boil. Horrible camera woman. But then again I’ll just go watch the YT woman do her video properly and flawlessly. If you’re going to do it, do it right sis.
