Our END-of-SUMMER-2017 Howard Family flight to Orcas Island. What an amazing experience for the family to hike, swim and enjoy a meal on the Island near the San Juans.
1 way flight was an hour and 10 minutes to Orcas Island Airport and 50 minutes back home to Puyallup (saving us almost 12 hours driving roundtrip)!!
What a great time to be alive!!

Next time, instead of flat "dragging it in..airliner" approach, try a steeper approach at a lower speed, drop it in with a forward slip, bleeding the energy off in the slip, full stall on the numbers. On your approach, if you lost power at the shoreline you'd be in the trees, then the hospital. My commercial instructor would have me fly very tight close in patterns so as to be able to land if power lost any point in downwind leg. He had me go abeam the numbers, cut power and make me a deadstick landing. Get real good at energy management and airports like Orcas won't be a problem.

This place is definently on my list to land at when I'm older and have a pilots license.

The Airport and facility directory says the PAPI has a 4 degree glidepath, and there is a displaced threshold. The PAPI would likely guide you to a longer touchdown. You touched down before the numbers with what looked like a very shallow and low final. Dragging it in like that with 2900 feet of runway is not recommended; you may consider yourself fortunate not to have fir needles in the wheel wells.

HAHAHAHAHA Indeed!!! In either case, in all seriousness, it is a BEAUTIFUL Airport and the Island is AMAZING!!!!! Can't believe after flying in the PNW for more than a decade, that was my 1st time there (although I've been to FHR years ago)!!

I don't think it was meant to be funny. Good video. Risky landing.

- thanks for the video.. looks like a good airport to land-long... Crest Airpark has a few trees that seem to want to reach out and grab you as well (same- RWY 34 :) safe Flights..
