My brother in law had a stroke from working out in the heat and not drinking enough water. It has ruined him and he will never work again, so please be careful.!!!

I did Iron Work and my uncle who owned the outfit MADE US take 15 minute water breaks every hour or two depending on how hot it was . We also would freeze halfway , bandannas or just cotton cloths to tie around our necks...heatstroke sneaks up on you and can do real damage to bigger guys or like me a guys who have a lot of miles on them . Leave half soaked cloth around your neck and tie it loosely and DRINK LOTS OF WATER ! Stroke is not worth it ... just get in your head if you are feeling a little woozy thirsty and especially headachey your dangerously close to stroke . Be careful you guys... we aren't kids anymore . For optimal nesting conditions, it is recommended to create a designated nesting area with straw or similar materials, as peahens will not carry nesting material to elevated platforms on their own. Happy Birthday Randy! Difficult work in the heat - I don’t envy you two. I know you want to get the peacock enclosure completed but be safe in the heat. Peacocks are happy to nest on the ground- don’t require nesting boxes. Just provide straw/grass.

A friend of mine and his brother were working out in the heat like this in Texas. They both finally took a break and went in the house for water and his brother collapsed and died. They were out there too long and they didn't drink enough water. Please please please please please take care. God bless you all❤❤❤❤❤

Hey Dutch, you mentioned one of your daughters really wants a monkey. A few things to keep in mind. They are not a normal pet. Most monkeys live an average of 30-40 years in captivity. If you decide you don't want the monkey after, let's say 10 years, you can't just rehome them. They are one person type animal. If you go away it is difficult to find someone to look after them as they can be aggressive towards people they don't know really well. I have followed a lot of RU-vid channels where people got monkeys and had to give them up due to the cost of keeping them. Not all Vets know how to care for them. You have to make sure that you can get Vet. care for them in your area. Some people end up giving the monkeys to rescue centers, if they can find one that will take them. Please do your research on owning a monkey before getting one. They are a wild animal and not a great pet for everyone.

An idea when you and Randy get the Peacock house, maybe put some gutters on either side and the back and get a water catchment system to keep them watered that might help out some and it wouldn’t get muddy around the pen. Just a thought. Y’all are doing a fantastic job. I love it. It looks so neat.

To make a nest, use a saw to cut a 55-gallon plastic drum down to about a third of its original height. Weight the bottom with some bricks, or nail it directly to the wooden floor of the shelter, to keep it from tipping. This is what my neighbor did for his peacocks

It does fly. I have 5 precious children. I’m over 70 and I look in the mirror and don’t know where the years went. The plus side is the grand babies and great grands they give you.

I used shade cloth on my dog and chicken run. One thing, watch for it flapping and ripping in strong winds. Maybe look at putting a thin piece of wood ect over where you screwed it down sandwiching it between if required. Job looks fantastic guys, ps Happy Birthday Randy, you've got me beat by 5yrs. Also were the cracks are in the walls, when they stop shrinking you could always put another piece of wood over the cracks if you need. Maybe run some guttering on back attached to a drum for added water for the peacocks, if you go away.

Most folk want do this in the heat ,warm tea/ coffee 1/2 teaspoon sugar 1/4 Himalayan salt ...cold drinks will cause issues ,warm water add the same as above , grandad was my life saver ...winter cold drinks keeps one warm...

As much as Bobby liked to roost up high, I wish you had made it higher or at least a pitched roof so he could roost higher. What about roosts? If u don’t put wire under that shade cloth; those peacocks will be gone, when it tears up in one of your rain, hail, tornado, snow and ice storms. Happy birthday Randy. You’re proof the more u do. The more you can do.

The key to preventing dry bridging is hard priming. Acrylic is better but costs more.

You need to work smarter not hotter. When I was growing up Dad and I would sit down in the dead of winter and make a list of things to be built/done. If it was building fence, sheds or whatever and prioritize everything and do the work during spring or fall. The only thing we really did during summer was mow around the house and feed the animals. We had vegetable gardens that needed care but nothing too bad. This is coming from a guy north of Dallas, basically same weather you have.

Randy seens to be a great handyman. Very knowledgeable about everything he has done. You are very blessed to have someone that helps as much as he does. I've never heard him complain about anything. Way to go Randy you the man. We the same age. But you are in better shape than I am. I have had so many surgeries it has really slowed me down.

114 with heat index today and suppose to be 118 heat index tomorrow. I am jealous of talk about rain.

Happy Birthday Randy! 🥳🎁 Dutch our heat index has been 110-118 for two weeks now. It's getting so hot that by 10 am I am finishing up all my projects outside and heading inside. Our heat index today is from 12 pm to 9pm. I have gone to watering our animals 3-4 time's a day just so they have fresh cool water. Once you have heat stroke you can easily get overheated again. Please be safe, I bought some cooling towels, I have an neck gator that you wet and I wear it on my head to keep me cool. I found a hat that if you wet it you also stay cool. Try working in the shade more often when this heat. Much love from our family to your family 💞

I had heatstroke back in July of 2005 at a family reunion and ended up in the hospital! Since then, I don't tolerate heat well and this summer in the northern part of eastern Washington State has been hot with temps all July in the upper 90's and over 100! Finally cooler in the 80's like it should be.

Randy has so much talent in building. Am glad you have had his help. The home is so nice and roomy for your family. As time goes on you will have those small jobs on your list done, then it will just be maintenance.. Oh Randy’s BIRTHDAY… HAVE A GOOD BIRTHDAY RANDY!

Dutch I did this with my chicken coop and used 2x4 no climb fence underneath so that any branches and snow would not cave the shade in. So far so good it’s been up for three years. If it needs to be replaced it will be easy to pick up.
