MANILA -- The Philippine National Railways (PNR) on Monday launched a special coach service as an alternative for motorists as heavy traffic is expected due to road projects.
I was once, and one of the very lucky passengers to experience riding on that PNR Kiha Kogane 59 Executive Premiere Class train in 2014, for three times... Love those moments... ❤️❤️❤️!

yesterday was the first day of this premier train and i was able to experience it. 60 pesos from Espanya going to Sucat is not bad at all. I used to ride taxi from espanya to Sucat and pay 350 pesos for 3 and 1/2 hours. From Espanya going to Sucat riding this Premier Train just took me less than an hour. I just noticed, the aircon was not really that cold as what the guy here have said. Hindi po sya bagong tren. Luma na din sya. pero naiintindihan ko sa kagaya nating mahirap na bansa. Hindi na din po masama. (wag mo na lang ikumpara sa tren ng ibang bansa) Nakakalungkot lang kasi isa sa mga empleyado nakakwentuhan ko at sinabi nya nag declare daw ng lugi ang PNR. Sa tingin ko mismanagement. nung nakaraan mga taon daw may empleyado daw na nagnakaw ng 6.5M mula sa kinikita ng PNR. at yung empleyado daw na ito ay 23 years old lang that time. Hanggang ngayun hindi na sya nakita para pagbayaran ang kasalanan nyang pag nanakaw.. PNR is the oldest means of transportation here in the Philippines, pero hindi nag iimprove isa sa mga factors ay gawa ng mga magnanakaw na yan..
I agree. It's systemic corruption and mismanagement that's causing important public services like the PNR to have nothing but deficits. I think that if they expand the rail network and really provide people with a quality experience. Nothing fancy like the premier coach, but just having the rail lines fixed and having a smarter ticketing system that would unite PNR, MRT, and LRT could go a long way in actually solving Manila's traffic problem.

This is the (kogane) Kiha 59 Series from japan used in some parts of Northern Tohoku Line and this train is so Yesterday including the driver's Instruments on the Cockpit.... HAHAH.. Hope they can improve more of this..
Those are screened because of the danger posed by people throwing stuff against the window of a passing train and causing injury to the passengers inside. I'm not sure how they could exit though. I've never been on one.
ScholarGnome Those are unsightly windows screen. They should have just used 3M glass protection screens. It makes windows shatter resistant and you can actually enjoy the view of the landscapes outside, which is one of the joys of train journeys.
andymackenzie81 It's one of those things that you'll just have to wait for. The pace of change in the Philippines may be fast, but some things will always remain the same. Yes, shatter-proof windows are available, but we're talking about ancient rolling stocks here. I doubt that they'll ever gonna "upgrade" these trains anytime soon.
andymackenzie81 ScholarGnome Can't make them shatter resistant because if they're to be used as emergency exits, they're supposed to shatter into little pieces when hit with a small hammer from the inside. Just wanted to know if the screens are detachable and not bolted permanently to the cab. - thus, still giving passengers quick access through the windows in case on emergency.
mangmundo That's the old way of doing it. There are latches that are installed on many modern buses and trains where the whole window itself can be detached. Using the ax/hammer method is extremely dangerous (I believe the ax/hammer method is only used on accessing fire extinguisher or fire hoses). And if this is indeed the case for these ancient rolling stocks, I don't know what to say. Either way, the Philippine rail system badly needs a total overhaul.
