They need to build a thousand tiny homes , easy with 70 million , do it and end the problem !
@Uncommonsensetoo

Thank you for what you do and for being a voice for these people. I agree, there is a huge workforce that just keep pushing people from one place to another simply moving the problem from one neighborhood to another. It solves nothing, is detrimental to the homeless themselves, and is simply a waste of tax money. Tiny shed size homes big enough for a bed, a chair, a desk, where they have some room to keep their essential belongings, where they can keep secure, and have some privacy is the real solution. There are a lot of county/city owned lots all over the place that could be cleaned up and turned into tiny home communities for the homeless. There would be a common building with kitchen, bathroom, showers, and laundry etc. Arrangements with restaurants and groceries stores could be made to provide them food that otherwise would be thrown away and also reduce some of the massive food waste. These communities could be operated mostly by the homeless themselves giving them a sense of purpose. I bet this would cost us tax payers far less over time than what we currently spend on these nonsense sweeps that changes nothing.

@@breezluize3282 First of all, I campaign to get rid of idiot liberal politicians who put up with this garbage, and I have also campaigned against misguided people who hand these folks money that 4 out 5 times gets used for alcohol or drugs. I have also advocated using closed military bases as shelter/treatment/rehabilitation facilities, and argued that a structured, secure environment with RULES and CONSEQUENCES is the only way to deal with the hardcore homeless types. Security at these places should include photo ID and registration for residents and staff, random vehicle checks to stop the influx of drugs, and immediate jail time for violent homeless who prey on other homeless. I support more aggressive action against drug dealers who prey on the homeless. I believe that local cities/municipalities have the right to enforce laws against littering, squatting, panhandling and vagrancy, and that there should be means testing for aid to the homeless. Elderly, disabled, and those able to prove prior residency get priority with assistance. Out of town homeless should either relocated to their home towns if family or a support network can help them there. Able-bodied homeless without sufficient earning capability to live in high cost of living areas should be relocated to somewhere with suitable jobs and a lower cost of living so they have a better chance of getting back on their feet. Now let's hear what great solutions YOU have, since the ones you liberal goo-goos have advocated have all failed so miserably.

Its not the homeless person being criminalized, its the drug use/abuse people fear and do not accept. With good reason. Also the mental illness. Thats normal. Whats not normal is having the mentally ill out on the street attacking or killing people. They should be in a mental hospital. (And im not saying every homeless person is mentally ill or drug addicted. Got that everyone? Please read my comment carefully before attacking me.) But many are and it only spirals down and out of control eventually. Ive seen them hurt their pets right in public. some of the pets die from not being cared for. I have rescued many animals who were abused. On the other hand I have known homeless guys who take care of their pet better than they take care of themselves. Good people who in their right mind would never hurt anything or anyone ,but once the drugs take control, its over. Its not normal to have mentally ill or doped out people wandering the streets. We cant even get on Bart safely anymore. some taking public transit have been killed by these people. But thanks to RR all of the institutions for these people were closed down instead of reformed and improved.

Thank you for what you're doing out there. I was already teary-eyed but when I saw Michael, I just broke down into tears. People see me as this strong Marine Corps veteran but when I see people in our nation living worse than some of the people in Afghanistan, it is enough to break anyone with a good heart down. 😞 I left that toxic state of California years ago but I've seen quite a few people out there trying to make a difference on several channels. I will get back to preparing ziplock bags of basic toiletries, non-perishable snacks, and water to keep in my car so that when I see someone that's on the street, I can get back to letting them know that they aren't less than anyone else... it's just a TEMPORARY situation and that they have to keep the faith and make positive steps to turn their lives around. Keep fighting the good fight, good sir. Our fellow human brothers and sisters are visible and I hope that there is a paradigm shift in the way the homelessness situation is addressed. Everyone makes mistakes and life has its ups and downs but at the end of the day, I believe that most people are good and just need a safe place to take care of their basic needs and rest. In this nation, having a place to sleep (that's not on the street), meals, showers, and resources to address mental and physical health needs should not be an issue. Everyone isn't looking for a hand out but when life has brought someone to their lowest point, they need to be given everything possible and the chance to gain (or regain) a sense of dignity and pride. Many WANT to work and want to contribute to society but they're treated as if they're trash that needs to be swept away. California is the worst, I swear! All of the money to send billionaires into space and pay CEOs more money than they can spend in several lifetimes means nothing if the most vulnerable people in society are left by the wayside. The time for these celebrities, CEOs, and billionaires to act is NOW! People with a whole lot less are trying but so much could be done if there is a collective movement! There are thousands of people that are going to sleep TONIGHT that are hungry, feeling hopeless, cold, sick, thirsty, dirty, and feeling like nobody gives a damn. I apologize for rambling but we all have a certain amount of time on this planet. In this great nation that sent the first person to step on the Moon, we can end homelessness FOR GOOD!

Where IS that money now ? Obviously it's been diverted,stolen or laundered in some fashion. Strict auditing needs to be done when it comes to funds used for housing and this has yet to be done. Many seniors and disabled people are homeless, waiting for housing that's not coming,in reality. By lobbying your local City Councils to allow affordable housing for working class, seniors and disabled tenants,that would be a great start to begin housing people. IN the year that I was homeless, I was in three shelters in Chicago, temporary hosing for a week and transitional housing in Vegas. Of the three shelters I went to in Chicago, I was averbally abused bya staff member at one for touching things (I’m blind…I see with my hands) and physically assaulted by another individual at the second so bad that I had bruise marks int he shape of her fingers. I had to leave both shelters becaue they would do nothing about either situation that did not include punishing me in some way when I did absolutely nothing to deserve the abuse. THe third shelter in Chciago was overcrowded but they did everything they possibly could considering how many people they had to care for. Honestly, I preferred the tent city to the shelters hands down…at least in the tent city people didn’t attack you at random. The UPtown tent city in Chicago is the best one I’ve ever seen…no bugs or rats, people took turns sweeping the sidewalk and picking up stray trash, we had port-a-potties and a hand-washing station and even a couple of trash bins that were picked up a few times a week. If a tent was in bad shape, it was replaced or repaired. There was a tent just for water bottles and another just for non-perishable food. I was very lucky to spend a few weeks with them, though I had walking pneumonia when I was there so I couldn’t do much to help anyone…if I had not been sheltered when I ws, I was told I probably would have died out there because my lung was so filled with fluid. I lost my husband to a shelter because they refused to refridgerate his insulin…at least on the street we had a cooler that was refilled with ice twice a day. They wouldn’t even let him have that in the shelter, so he died in a diabetic coma because he was insulin-dependent since his pancreas had shut down almost entirely. Rise and Thrive,a program of CHIPS in Las Vegas, was my saving grace and I will never stop being grateful for them. It says a lot when, after being out of the program for an entire year, my social worker with FRise and Thrive took the time to call me and wish me a happy birthday this month. That phone call made me cry to think how much they cared about me…they see so many people come and go, but she still checked in with me over six months after the contract of care was up. I wish all homeless people could get into programs like that and if you are homeless in Vegas, please reach out to CHIPS because they erally do care. The Rise and Thrive program for homeless people with mental health issues is an amazing one and I hope it continues to help people for many years to come. Thank you for all the advocacy and education you do, Mark. Keep it up. People need to know what is happening, how homeless people are treated worse than dogs…dogs straight off the street get foster homes until they are adopted in most places, but hhomeless people don’t even get shelter. It breaks my heart.

I live in Uptown. It's a pretty wealthy, beachfront neighborhood with several popular local beaches. I'm a block away from the beach and a few blocks north of Uptown's tent city but there are tents in the park on my block. This doesn't solve any problems but I like that the city hasn't moved them out of sight. My neighbors in tents have told me that they haven't had problems with law enforcement. that is a Northside privilege & the city's neighborly response to unhoused neighbors up here does not extend to the South or westsides. Anyways, I've never heard housed neighbors complain about the tent city here. I'm sure that plenty do but I've never heard it and I'm always out in the neighborhood. I've heard lots of concern for people in the tent city because Chicago's weather can be terribly hot, icy cold, and we get tornadoes; one recently destroyed a neighbor's encampment. When I walk to the beach, I expect to have conversations with unhoused neighbors. Some housed neighbors with more resources than me make extras plates at dinner, buy an extra meal at restaurants, do more that I don't know about. I haven't heard stories of housed neighbors being hostile to our neighbors in tents. I haven't heard of people who come into the neighborhood to go to the beach being hostile. I know that can change at anytime & I know that it's the bear minimum, but it's something I've noticed.

I completely agree and it is very heartbreaking to know that most people who live in the streets are not offered the most basic of services--- especially having to do with cleanliness and hygiene on all levels. On the other hand, many homeless people are truly suffering with actual Mental Issues and Disorders. That is also one reason so many end up on the streets in the first place. ( Also thanks to Drug/Alcohol Addiction, other Disabilities). Many of these people who are already suffering from mental disorders ALSO tend to have big *hoarding* issues---- which is something NEVER ever mentioned at all within the Invisible People videos, or on other channels that are similar. *Hoarding* and/or "serial accumulation" issues can truly be considered a real mental disorder. Most times you will see very random and useless items that many homeless possess or surround themselves with "just because". Many city streets are littered with so much trash and junk items SENSLESSLY. ...I KNOW because I grew up in both Venice Beach and Santa Monica and many times, many homless people (clearly suffering with mental issues) would just hoard anything, found anywhere----- when most objects were not absolutely essential for living or "survival". Hoarding can be a very serious pathology in and of itself, and can "accompany" so many other forms of mental illness that many homeless experience. And it is unfortunate that this problem is never mentioned or acknowledged when addressing the issues of the homeless.
@intellectualrebel5340
@intellectualrebel5340 Год назад
@@sabigalli6344 In winter, "hoarding" blankets or finding a mat/rug to lay on and even some cardboard/styrofoam helps ward off frostbite. Also, people collect/try to keep stuff that either has emotional connection for them/just gives them a sense of stability. You probably wrote that comment from a safe, comfortable house surroumded with tons of stuff. When poor people collect cheap stuff, they call it hoarding or even memtal illness, when billionares have 100 luxury cars and more money a small country can spend and want to expoit people to get more "they deserve to have stuff and nobody should tell them what to do with money". The double standard gets even more evil when you realise that those billoonares are the reason everyone else is poor.
@sabigalli6344
@sabigalli6344 Год назад
@@intellectualrebel5340 Actually I am a minimalist and fortunately I also grew up with a relative who had a serious Hoarding problem (along with another mental disorderI so I know from experience how devastating living around someone with hoarding issues truly is. As I mentioned before, ironically most items (decayed tissue boxes, a broken toilet seat, a doll's leg, a rusty car bumper) are NOT "essential" for living, survival and if there are any "emotional attachments" to such items should be determined as a kind of mental disorder. Don't be presumptious or hypocritical and "assume" that I do not know the difference between hoarding of the poor or rich. Hoarding, whether it be luxury items or not IS A PATHOLOGY.

The sweeps are happening where I live which is in Canada as well and have seen this bs happening. What we need is an abolishment of the subsidized housing assistance waiting lists. Where I live people have been waiting for decades housing assistance
@ElvinJewel
@ElvinJewel Год назад
Yes they are. I live in eastern BC near AB border and it happens here frequently with many living in tents. Imagine having to live in a tent during a Canadian winter. In my 70th yr. I live in an RV. So far I have been able to pay for a spot at a year round RV site, but with rising costs on literally everything my savings are fast being eaten up to survive. My pension doesn't cover everything and these sites have NO form of rent control. I estimate that I will be able to live here for approximately one more year. Then where do I go? No truck to move my unit and no where to move it to. No family, only a couple of friends left. And it seems that Canada's answer is becoming MAID. . . . for seniors, for vets, for the disabled, for those with mental problems (even depression), for those who refused the jab (wanting to declare them as having a mental disorder), for anyone they may have to help. However Canada has billions to send to other countries. One group tried to get a "tiny home" area set up for the homeless a couple of years ago in our area, but that seems to have fallen by the wayside now. So many blocks put in the road by gov't. Then people don't want it "where they live". Not all of us are drug addicted. Not all of us have "mental illness". More and more are becoming homeless.

If you're walking, even sometimes driving, you can smell the stench of urine and feces. I've seen this with my own eyes in Los Angeles. There have been cities since the "dark ages" that have chronicled this very thing. Disease breaks out. There was a rat infestation in the LA County building and people contracted diseases in office buildings. Under ANY set of circumstances, at some point the streets need AT LEAST to be swept.

I had to suffer through nursing homes neglecting my mom, which caused her to die, & I can't even find legal action to sue. I can't even find a way to better my own situation. I sure as hell don't want to end up in the same situation as my mom! There's nothing to look forward to. If you're not rich, or have loved ones to help you......All there is is suicide....to put an end to the mental & physical suffering. I'm being brutally honest. THIS IS REALITY. I found a mechanic who rents me out a space with electric, water and a dump for Super cheap. I THANK GOD I am off the streets. Unfortunately 90% or more the other people who were in RVs or vans were on very heavy amounts of meth. So everywhere I would go it would look like a big dump. I don't do drugs so that's another part of this problem is addiction. And I know for sure when you're on meth heavily you don't care what it looks like around your vehicle. First, I want to say I've given literature and resources to over 500 homeless people myself, and had two stints with personal homelessness, thankfully, the last one was 33 years ago. Also, I have 32 years since I hit my bottom from substance abuse. If they are offered homes, and are not taking them, they should no longer be called "homeless." I don't see the current climate of not institutionalizing some of these people as being humane. Clearly, they are hurting themselves (dying on the street) and often others. Also, those who do not want to solve their homelessness issues so they can use drugs in tents and squats, and steal from the public, should not be considered anything other than nomadic criminals. Remember, I'm an ex-drug user and have gone to over 2000 12 Step meetings in my life. I know what works and most people do as well.

Some people refuse to take accountability for their own actions and bad choices and then do not understand why their outcome is often hardship. NOT everyone has this problem, but people need to understand that the homeless issue is complicated and if a person is mentally ill, AND has drug addiction issues, will they ever make the best decisions for themselves?? I'm in the same position,except in northern California. It's humiliating and incredibly degrading , the way the cops talk to you and treat you. Remember people, but for the grace of God there go I. No one aspires to be homeless. It's not how I want to live. But once you get caught up in it you become trapped.

God uses the vulnerable to show they mighty how weak they really are. The ones who look down on others for being homeless, will face God's judgment. We have glaringly bright issues with our society that we're not addressing and it's just staring us in the face. How do we treat other human beings like this? God's wrath will be poured down for these sins. And I pray for everyone in this situation to be in God's hands, that he would carry you through this storm to better pastures, God Bless 🙏🙏

You can be homeless but that isn't an excuse to be an animal. Near one of my businesses homeless people fight, kill eachother, do drugs, break glass bottles that puncture peoples car tires including mines, put trash all over, poop all over, harass my costumers. It isn't fair for me I worked so hard to open my businesses for many years. I had a homeless guy attack one of my employees a year ago and they quit after working for me for 3 years. People feel unsafe.

Catch and release puts everyone at risk. The homeless women the worst. It's as if it's open season on anyone making less riches.

No, the owner picked his dog up and carried it to the pick-up truck after moving the trailer. The dog is ok and safe.

Why can't those people be left alone ? The citys wealthy should gather together and donate money and hire the homeless and poor to clean the areas so they can earn an income .

There is money to spend on Foreign affairs, and to build overpriced housing but never to take care of our own people. This is still a great country and we should allocate resources to take care of those less fortunate. No one really wants to be homeless. We need to care more about Human kind and less on material things. Most of us are 2 to 3 paychecks from being homeless. We don't take any of it when its our time to go. As John Lennon once said "Imagine ".

maybe they'd get a little more sympathy if they cleaned up their garbage instead of tossing it in the street.
