Engineer reacts to Ikoyi building that collapsed in Ikoyi on Monday. The building, located on Gerald Road in the city's affluent Ikoyi neighborhood, is a construction site for luxury apartments. It is unclear how many were inside when it fell, but people were feared to be trapped.
Search and rescue operations from multiple agencies continued through the night and into Tuesday morning. The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) confirmed five persons d**d in a Facebook post on Tuesday. It did not say how many people are currently missing.

It is not necessarily about quacks. I think it is about greed, and ignorance. The owner of the house wanted to over maximize profit from the land. Why must you want to 21 storeys on virtually sandy Lagos land. Upon that, they used bricks instead of iron frame as they do in advanced countries.

My condolences to all family involved. Lagos is sinking, ikoyi is full of water, and also sinking gradually. Maybe those huge Hugh rise buildings are not fit for the land in ikoyi and in Lagos in general

People, this one has happened and lives claimed due to one person's greed: how about the other buildings next to this one by Fourscore? No one has mentioned if they are safe???

When the agencies identify these buildings and report why don't they do follow up and request feedback , i think we can do more ,if neighbours unite and put forward a collective letter to these agencies and require feedback. Maybe that would work. We should be our neighbours keeper.

There are qualified and competent Engineers who can implement and erect 21-Storey buildings without any issue. You guys are not hitting the nail on top. The developers are the problem. Even after a competent Engineers give them professional advice, do they adhere to it? Instead they will go and engage a Baba Silifa Bricklayer who will tell them to reduce quality and cut corners.

Lagos State civil servants are beholden to APC, Tinubu, and his minions. There will never be an effective government regulatory body to oversee what building contractors do in Lagos. Many more of these shoddy jobs abound and will continue to proliferate.
