Thank you for this! Our CRV however, has stayed extremely reliable, without a single breakdown. We have had this car for 7 years. Non of the issues we have experienced! I will keep all this in mind
I have had the same reliable service from my 2012 Honda CRV with no problems. I believe it is critical to change the engine oil at 4000 to 5000 miles, change the 5 speed automatic transmission fluid every 30,000 miles to achieve reliability and long life from these components.
I have a 2016 CR-V EX and had a short that kept draining my battery. Dealer wanted too much to 'find' it so I took it to a local shop who spent over a day trying to find it. Finally found it was in the harness in the back tailgate. Dealer had it instock which meant they most likely knew about the problem. So don't make it a habit to slam the tailgate or you might create a problem.
I have a 2013, and while I never experienced and rattling noise on start-up, I used Amsoil Signature Series full synthetic oil on the last oil change, and the engine instantly ran smoother & quieter.
common issue as well, leaky trunk. water coming in from outside into the spare tire wheel well(trunk). If the trunk drain plug is not open for it to drain out, there is potential to form a pool of water in the spare tire area. when i recently purchased my used , 2012 honda crv ex , the spare tire drain plug was sealed shut and a pool of water was back there, causing significant rust damage to both the rim of the spare tire , as well as the metal trunk framing. the rust was not noticeable from underneath the car, as there is a large plastic cover that shields the tire area and drain plug. i still have not located the origin of the leak but it seems to be coming through on both sides of the trunk, from the weld lines, in the corners of the spare tire wheel well.. make sure to check the trunk for rust :)
The VTC actuator is not a timing chain issue. It is an oil consumption issue. At around 70,000 miles these engines will burn oil at around 2 quarts every 3,000 miles. This causes the lack of lubrication of the timing chain. Check your engine oil frequently; once a week minimum.
2012 Japanese CRV with RM engine. I have or have had the following: 1) vibration at idle especially when cold due to low idle rpm 2) Pulley belt tensioner needs replacement every year or other year (with oem part) 3) suspension bushing doesn’t last long 4) It’s best to change transmission oil filter with every other oil change. This helps with the shifts. 5) the rear seats locks breaks easily and expensive to replace. 6) The original mic for hands free calls has a buzzing sound and needs replacement. Has been okays thus far. 7) engine mounts burst easily (I guess due to the excessive vibrations)
I’ve owed 3/ 4th gen CRV’s. The only major repair was a replacement of the starter around 60k mikes. Otherwise my 2016 Touring has been a great car. I find if I run 93 octane gas once every couple months it smooths out the idling.
My 2012 crv used to have this problem rattling sound in the morning start until I switched oil and make sure engine oil is always in full line and change it every 4k-5k. No rattling sound anymore
I have a 2012 model and do to the noise I ended spending 28hundred to fixing the noise on my local Honda dealer, I still super happy whit my cr-v never broken and I think is fine spend some money to keep it running smoot.
I had ratting problem plus transmition vibration. By changing oil in transmition vibration fixed but now i have high fuel consumption. Somebody has this problem with crv 2014.
We bought a 2002 CR V and it’s been good. Most problems have occurred due to poor driving skills. It’s a 5 speed manual so just changed the oil recently but working fine. The clutch binds slightly but the hydraulic fluid can be changed to fix this. Probably the most rugged and tough car we have ever owned. Now at 400,000 km and running well. Just needs some TLC.
I do not know. I've had many Honda crv's, none of them have ever had any problems. Apart from oil changes and brakes, nothing has ever failed. If the owner pays attention to the car, then there shouldn't be much trouble.
We bought our 2013 CRV new and itwill be 10 years old in March. It has just shy of 84000 miles. I have owned Hondas since 1979, e.g. Civics, Accords, Ridgeline. We have had to have the heater core flushed out due to apparent slag from their casting process; $800+, transmission jutter at speeds between 25 to 30 mph caused by slipping between 2nd and 3rd gear which requires us now to have transmission fluid changed out every 30,000 miles and an additive, "instant shudder" added to increase "lubricity", had to have an alignment camber kit replaced in rear, almost $500..this was done by a trusted alignment shop. They said this is a common problem with CRV. I change my own oil, use Honda filter at 50% oil usage; 3800 - 4500 miles. I replaced our truck with a 2022 Mazda CX5. Didn't even consider a Honda nor will we when we replace the CRV in the future. My wife drove the CRV but not anymore..we both love the CX5.
That transmission judder is very anoying. And I should say even dealers dont know shit how to fix it. I fixed mine by a 3x drain and refill and using dw1 and amsoil transmission oil 50-50. didnt happen again for at least 10k miles so far
What he is tryin to say is don't get the 1st or 2nd yrs of any generation. As yrs past Honda finds way to improve these inconveniences. There are always recalls on the first years models. You're better of with a 2015 or 2016 models
I just did a whole timing chain vtc and tensioner with guides on mine I’ve owned it since newi have 217,000 miles on it plan to get 1 million miles out of it
I changed the oil in both diffs and the auto gearbox. Honda recommend the auto gearbox change but it doesn’t come with the normal servicing schedule, I think that’s the reason it gets missed.
My 2013 does have a transmission filter looks like a fuel filter on the return line right under air filter housing on top of trans there’s a 10 mm bolt holding it and 2 hoses with clamps
Drain and fill transmission fluid. I had it done at dealer for less than $100. Was fine before change but shifting was noticibly smoother, particularly when downshifting. Cheap peace of mind
This doesn’t apply to Britain we have our own Honda factory and our Honda CR-V 2.2 turbo diesel AWD has a 6 speed manual transmission option if you get a sport cat instead of DPF and a remap done 200bhp fun and 40mpg In town driving
@@The_Touring_Jedi any diesel Honda vehicle up to around 2005-2006 diesel will have no DPF , on Hondas and most other diesel vehicle DPF was mandatory after that hope this helps , dpf is not really a big issue as long as it’s serviced or cleaned out once or just blast it down the motorway in a lower gear using a cleaning detergent in the tank
I did experience some shifting issue with CVT transmission, but after changed the transmission fluid, it feels much better though. I think the reason is cause by the worker who changed my tire did a non stop gear shifting from D to R and R to D while moving my car.
Correct, but the dealership told me that they rarely replace them, as it's been found to be unneccessary. I tried to replace mine anyway, and found it to be a bear to do (mainly the last step of removing the bottom hose), so just put it all back together and returned the filter.
@@Iennal the guy in the video says it has no filter... last time i had it change i brought the fluids but they did not ask me for filter, i will ask next time i go to the shop if the 2013 one has filters.... mine is exactly 2013, non facelift version, uses a regular automatic transmission, not the CVT that comes with the facelifted 4th gen CRV.
Gen2&3s had auxiliary filters. No idea why gen4 doesn’t. Possibly can be added by an experienced shop. Or frequent fluid jobs but that filter, as long as it is replaced with every other fluid job does the job for gen2,3.
Another question. Is there a recommended front rotor that is less prone to warping. I’ve never seen this in Gen1,2,3 ever. Even when worn to a knub. What in the heck did Honda change to create this problem? My Excursion has this all the time but it’s a truck, still irritating though.
2015 CRV starter failed at 65,000 miles. Replace using honda shop procedures, removing front exhaust, not youtube videos for small hands. Change the oil at 40-50% and differential and transmission fluids every 30-40K and you should be OK.
Have a 2015 with about 20k miles on it, the car vibrates heavily during idle. Honda does have a fix but no recall so they will make you pay, gonna see if my mechanic can do it for me within the next few weeks.
I got this car, really low mileage for now, barely 40,000 and in 2 years it will be a decade old... in all that time, I managed to change the transmission and 4wd differential oil for about 3 to 4 times i forgot... since my car is low mileage, most of the maintenance I do it by time instead... my oil changes used to be every 6 months with the honda semi synthetic oil... changed to mobil 1 advanced fulll synthetic and 15,000 miles purolator filter, now i do the change once per year instead... i guess that starting this year, i will change trans and differential oil every 3 to 4 years maximum, flush the brake fluid in about the same time too. the coolant i dont know if i should wait a little bit longer, mine hasnt been changed yet. the car runs perfect i guess, but like you said in the video, it has a bit rough shifts from 1 to 2, sometimes to 3 , but it isnt that bad honestly, i am intending to keep this car for 10 more years, its a great car.
Just change transmission fluid and put synthetic engine oil. Your car will outlive you. That's the problem with Hondas ...they are joyful boring and they last
I have a 2016 CRV Touring it has been great no problems. Regular oil changes and it seems to be sensitive to a slightly dirty air filter, it will run a little rough at an idle. Change the filter and it’s back to running great again. The only thing I noticed right after buying it new, the exhaust pipe ware it goes over the rear axel it looks like they took a hammer to it to make the bend. This can’t help the gas millage, so I took it in to the dealership and to my surprise all of them were like that. I told them I thought I would replace the exhaust tube from the muffler back, but they told me that would void the warranty. Not sure if that was true or not, I didn’t want to take the chance so I have lived with it till now. It just went out of warranty so I would like to change that out. Has anyone else noticed this or fixed it? I would think the restriction would not help the gas milage.
Can you tell me please I have 2013 honda crv ex awd and I have problem vibration noise in dashboard by speedometer cluster when I drive can you please help me how to fix and what is it...
My 2013 crv shudders a lot around 30mph but it shifts generally fine, and sometimes it rattles when I cold start but not nearly as bad as it was in this video, any suggestions on my tranny? Should I try to get it fixed? Can it be fixed?
I've read others say to change the tranny oil every 30,000 miles. One person changed trans oil ever 4th oil change. There's grit getting into the trans. It's coming from a part up line. Keep reading. You'll find the comment on one of the 4th gen crv videos.
I had the shudder on my 2014 automatic and did a tranny flush then new fluid. Shudder went away. There’s lots of people out there that have done the same thing.
I have the 2014 CRV diesel 2.2ltr luxury model. The gearbox vibration only happens when I am accelerating at low speeds. It feels like I am driving on a cattle grid. The vibrations stops, when I take my foot off the gas.
I have a 2014 with 203,000 kms and it’s amazing. Starting to get a faint VTC rattle noise when cold starting but I live in northern Ontario and it’s -28°c. They’re great cars and you’ll have very minimal, if no issues for a very long time.
My 2014 FWD (35K miles) start vibrating above 65 mph like I have unbalanced tires. Tried everything, from getting new tires, balancing them more than once. Honda dealership did everything they can think of. Still vibrating?
@@familymueller7620 I am also very suspicious of the drive shafts. But most likely will be selling the car in a month. Will leave it for the next owner.
Are you talking about your CRV problem or somebody else’s? You are the only one have the engine problem noise. You need to disclose how many percentage of CRV has this problem or it just yours
The problem exists. If there was a stat on this, it would not be accurate. Just an issues you should be aware of. I scrolled down the comments for one second and saw three comments stating they had the issue.
What happens when people do not maintain their vehicles? When someone buys a car off of the lot, the dealer does not walk you through every step to maintain the vehicle. Why? So the owner can take it back to the dealer and get it fixed at a crazy price. Because of that, majority people do not know how to maintain their cars.
@@AutoMotivate It's called read the owners manual. Service intervals are not a suggestion. Have been working on and building vehicles for 4 decades. If you do not adhere to the service recommendations any issues are on the owner. But hey, it is always the vehicle smfh.
@@rivercityrambler7751 Someone who works on and builds cars you should know already that certain cars are more prone to certain issues, especially if those maintenance intervals were not met. Guess what? Most cars do not come with a full history report of repairs. Someone looking to buy this car should definitely look over all the POTENTIAL issues it may have. What am I missing?
@@AutoMotivate while you make a valid point that is a risk the buyer accepts if they buy a vehicle that does not include full service records so I am missing your point here.
@@rivercityrambler7751 I create these videos as a buyers guide. If I were to guy buy a 2002 Jeep Cherokee, what are the most common issues I should look for to avoid major headaches. That is all.
This a BS model and car I own one and the transmission switching to eco status and that shit gives out after 50k miles I got it out the lot and the transmission gave out after 5 months..with warranty..I took it to get it fixed and it’s been over a month and they haven’t gave it back yet
