Hi. I saw another video that highlights that USB-C Power supply is intelligent and requires a handshake between USB devices to determine what power rail to use from the power supply / power bank to supply either 5, 9, 12, 20v through the USB-C port. Some devices, like you experience with the Smallrig battery, probably require a hard handshake to occur again before it will determine what power to provide over USB-C, thus you have to reestablish the the connection to force the handshake. Barrel connectors are straight power connection for 8v / 12v so don't have this handshake. Ok with the DCC18 connected to an Anker Nano, I found the Anker Nano was drained from 21% to 0% power overnight (~12 hours) while the GH-7 was turned off, not in Sleep mode, and the Anker Nano remained connected to the DCC18... I wasn't expecting that. I did have sleep mode enabled in the menu on but the GH7 was not in sleep mode. All I can assume is there is a chip/board in the DCC18 and that slowly pulls power from the connected battery an over 16 hours (or so) it is enough to drain the Nano down from 21% charge. Anyone else noticed this power drain on connected batteries while camera is switched off?

That makes a lot of sense, I really appreciate the detailed response! Thats interesting, I haven't left a device connected to the camera whilst it has been powered off for a long enough period of time to notice that. I will give that a try and see if the same happens across my devices.

I'll be testing this out with a Core Nano X Micro 98 V-Mount battery, but I'll be using the USB port on my Tilta PD V-Mount battery plate instead of the port on the battery and report back...

Not the GH and Smallrig but had a somewhat similar experience with the Blindspot Power Junkie OG and charging a phone. Noticed the power goes out after awhile and the phone stops charging. The solution was to connect the cable to the Power Junkie, connect the cable to the phone and then connect the NPF to the PJ. No issues from this. Previous the sequence was NPF to PJ, cable to PJ, cable to phone - the difference in sequence seeming solved the issue, though there’s a chance it’s something else. If the speculation is accurate, perhaps it’s got to do with some “handshake” protocol of USB

@stevelitton Месяц назад
Yeah, it does seem to be something along those lines. I will try connecting it from the other side, I think I tried both but will double check. Thanks for the advice, much appreciated 👍

I prefer to use the large Anker Powerbank with the USB C input as then camera will continue to run if you change the powerbank. Unless you want to use a SSD I do not think this adapter is worth it. I use the larger Anker to power my GH6 and my Zoom F3.
@stevelitton
@stevelitton Месяц назад
Yeah that's totally fair, I like that setup as well. This is handy for longer shoots if you need to free up the camera's USB-C port for SSD recording. How do you find the Zoom F3? Looks like a nice recorder.

@stevelitton
@stevelitton Месяц назад
@SystemParanoia Out of interest, which hub are you using? I was going to give the Anker 6 on 1 a try as that supports power delivery and works as a hub.

@@stevelitton I plugged it into my JSAUX SSD hub that I have for my steamdeck when I had it on loan as I was curious. It did pick up the SSD, but the battery was full so I'm assuming it charged too.. However page 548 of the user manual states "Do not use USB extension cables, USB conversion adaptors, or USB hubs" So maybe try it with someone else's gh7!

Yeah, I wasn't sure if it would actually accept the power in. Probably not worth risking the camera 🙂

Steve, I’ve viewed your DCC18 video sent last week. I only have the GH6 and already have the Kondor Blue Dummy Battery BLK22 which works perfectly in all power source respects with my GH6. Does buying aDCC18 offer me any additional benefits or would I just be wasting my money? Regards
@stevelitton
@stevelitton Месяц назад
In all honesty, if you have an external power solution that works then this likely isn't needed. It will do the same thing, it's just a different way to get you there. It's good if you have V Mount with only one D Tap and a USB-C port as it allows you to power two devices and still have the USB-C port on the camera free for using an SSD.
@Jake-zc3fk
@Jake-zc3fk Месяц назад
On the G9II for instance, off brand dummy batteries would not enable frame rates over 60 fps when recording to SSD. The DCC18 unlocks all options for the G9II. Other cameras may not have the same issues. If you are able to get to all video options with the Kondor, then no need for the DCC18, but as stated above, for the G9II it was necessary. I've got an S5IIX coming in a few days so it will be interesting to see if the DCC18 makes a difference on that camera as well.
@stevelitton
@stevelitton 22 дня назад
I have heard from other people with that camera that the frame rates do work on the G9m2 but you need the 2-pin version of the Kondor Blue DCC17 dummy battery. The DCC18 certainly saves a lot of headaches though 🤯

Hi friend. Please help me find a solution for this problem.I use the Mimo app with my DJI Osmo SE, but I'm experiencing an issue where the recorded video output doesn't match what I see on the screen. The screen view appears bright, but the recorded video is automatically captured with lower light levels.
@stevelitton
@stevelitton Месяц назад
Hi, there are too many variables here for me to give you a definitive answer but this could be down to something simple like your phone's screen brightness. The best way to get good exposure in your footage is to use the exposure tools while you are shooting. Sorry I couldn't be much help.
@furkonige

it is a problem of the battery because smallrig is cutting power because their chip is cutting the power to prevent power drain
