@@gustavocoronel333 Hi Gustavo. Thanks for watching, and for sharing your thoughts and concerns. I definitely value the opinion of a local Argentine (I'm assuming you're from Argentina). I don't believe that money exchange on the blue rate is comparable to selling guns and drugs on the Black Market, but I respect your opinion if you think those situations are identical. The Western Union exchanges on the blue rate, which is a credited business. The economic situation is certainly not great for Argentines, I agree with that, and find it to be quite unfortunate. However, the reality is that both the red and blue rates do exist. I included that part in this video to help those traveling here understand the reality that there are in fact two different rates, as it is rare to find that when traveling. If people prefer to exchange only on the red rate, that is certainly up to them, and a choice to make. As is exchanging on the blue rate. I'm definitely not the only person on RU-vid to mention that two different rates exist. I am just trying to provide information to those who want to come here, and then it is up to the person viewing to decide what they want to do- exchange at the red/blue rate. It's great that you have provided your perspective here as well, so everyone can see it from another side! :)
Gracias !!!
@@gustavocoronel333 Hi again Gustavo! Thank you so much for taking the time to explain with so many details the situation. I agree that Argentina is a wonderful place, as are the people. This is the reason I came back after so many years. I really hope the best for you, and of course, the best for Argentina! :)
As someone who is highly considering relocating to the beautiful city of Buenos Aires in the fall, I’ve devoured countless videos on BA and I’ve got to say Nicki, that this video has been the best and most helpful video so far. By FAR! Muchissimas gracias! 😎👏
Hi Payman, that is SO nice. I really appreciate hearing this. I love this city so much and I hope you will love it too! I'm actually back in BA now, and planning to make more content in Buenos Aires. Is there any information you wish was in a video but couldn't find?
I go to Buenos Aires a lot. A WHOLE LOT. And I think your video is really good. Thank you for sharing this info with people who have not been here and need all of this great information.
Hi Corey! Thank you so much for watching. I'm happy to hear it was helpful to you. Best of luck in Buenos Aires. I hope you'll love it as much as I do! :)
Amazing video! Incredibly informative, with lovely cinematography and great BA vibes. I hope to go back one day. It’s probably changed so much since last I was there. Gracias, Nickita!
Thanks Gringster for watching! You definitely should come back. I was surprised both by how much the country had and hadn’t changed. But one thing that stayed the same was how much I love it! ❤️ Do come back and visit!
Wow, thank you so much. This is the kind of video I always look for when I travel but are so hard to find. I'm a big fan of travel channels like attaché which detail all the logistics of getting in, out and around but now I also have your channel! Great information, exactly what I was looking for!
@@NickiPostsTravelStuff not sure yet. I wanted to come soon but I have some doc appointments here that got scheduled out further than I had anticipated. Will def reach out on WA!
as a prior poster noted I have to agree one of the best video's on BA. Especially good on what you need to enter the country and quick overview of the different neighborhoods.
Hi Horst, thank you so much for such a lovely comment! Luckily since I made this video, the requirements have eased up SO MUCH MORE. You no longer require insurance or a PCR test. Have a great trip to BA! :)
A great video. I also first visited Buenos Aires in 2005. I lived in Buenos Aires Argentina for nearly 10 years. I liked the Congreso neighborhood it had every thing that I needed it was convenient to everything to get to here is a tip use a money belt when walking around in Buenos Aires you can put your money 💰, your telephone ☎️ and any important paperwork that you might need to carry around with you.I was last in Buenos Aires in March 2020. I plan an extended visit starting this December. Again a great video 📹 👍.
Hey Mark, how interesting we both went at the same time. But wow you stayed a long time. I had friends stay that long too, we must know a few people in common! Thank you so much for watching, and best of luck with your extended December trip! :)
@D. Pav no its not if you ever visit Buenos Aires Argentina or anywhere in South America. You will see most people, both men and women walking around with some sort of bag or backpack 🎒 its normal. Oh yeah, I just got back from a 4 month tour of South America and Buenos Aires it was awesome 👌 👏 👍 😍.
Hi Mike, yes you’re absolutely right! I made this video in January, but things are changing so fast, and the entry requirements have eased up a bit since then! :)
Very good information, add to exchange money at Florida street they ask you for 100 bills $ in good conditions, no marks or stains and ¨cara grande¨ big face mean the image inside the bill should be big, no small, printed many years ago.
Nicki, thank you so much for this very informative video. Audio is just perfect; I appreciate your efforts. Enjoy your time in BA and I look forward to seeing your other videos.
Brilliant Video Nicki, I have watched a number of videos about Buenos Aires and this has been by far the best. Very informative simple to follow and full of hints and tips. Thank You. 3 or 4 of us will be visiting Buenos Aires to take in a couple of football matches in July 23, you have made planning our trip so much easier.
Thank you so much, Geordie! I love hearing that. I'm really glad that the video helped! Enjoy the football matches! :) (Also, keep in mind that some regulations have lessened a lot since I made this video in January. The insurance, DDJJ, vaccine, and PCR are no longer requiredI). Have a great trip!
Thank you for covering the basic information, which was useful. It's a pity we didn't see more of Recoleta. I know the cemetery is world-famous, but after all we are dead for a long time..
Hi Nicki! Your videos have been super helpful!! I am traveling from California to Buenos Aires on March 13th. I bought insurance with my plane ticket that covers medical, but I didn’t see COVID specifically listed on there, so I bought another one.. but I don’t see quarantine coverage on there which I saw was required on the Government website. Did your travel insurance cover quarantine (hotel expense)? Do they look for that? I’m nervous they won’t let me board without that specific coverage Thanks!
Hi Cream Pop! Thanks so much for watching, and I'm so glad to hear that the videos have helped so far! :) I also traveled directly from CA to BA, but in Jan. They never mentioned anything specifically about quarantine coverage, just COVID coverage. I think you should be fine with what you have. They really didn't scrutinize my insurance too much. They just asked to see it, so I showed them the pdf on my phone. I flew with American Airlines. I felt that they were just doing their diligence to check everything necessary, but didn't scrutinize anything too much, except for vaccination/PCR related items. I really think you should be fine! Best of luck in BA! I love that city! :)
Hi, so helpful...thank you! I'm visiting for the first time in a week, so excited. I will check out the whatsapp groups for sure. Best of luck growing the channel and thanks again!
Thank you so much, Justin. I'm really glad it was helpful. Btw, if you're planning to enter Argentina any time soon, the restrictions have recently been loosened. I just went to Peru and came back two days ago. The only TWO things I needed to show were my Declaracion Jurada and Proof of Covid Insurance. If you're vaccinated, you no longer need to get a PCR test, just show the vaccination proof and you're good to go! It was super duper easy this time around!
Hi David. Thank you so much! I'm glad it was helpful. Can you think of anything you wished was in the video but wasn't there? Or is there any info you haven't been easily able to find? Thanks! :)
@@NickiPostsTravelStuff I think you did a great job of covering all the basic things a first time visitor needs to know. I can't remember if you mentioned how long the tourist visa is. You could also mention visa runs to Uruguay. Availability of scooters or bicycles would be a nice to have. Maybe mention some parks. Maybe some key websites and resources, but you do mention a few.
@@w_w_whitey Awesome, thank you so much for that feedback! I'm going to be back in BA in a couple months so I want to make sure to film anything I missed. I will most likely be going to Uruguay, so that is definitely something I'll try to capture. I appreciate your comment! :)
Quick question: Are there American/British/Aussie expatriot groups one could hook up with there for information or guidance? Am an older person who wants to go down to check it out for possible retirement abroad potential. i don't do FB, so if there was a website or other contact information, that would be great. There was a fairly large expat group in Cuenca, Ecuador that was really helpful. Hoping to find something like that in BA. Your video is fantastic. Lots of really helpful information.
Hi Amy! Yes, there are absolutely those groups. There are a lot of foreigners in Argentina, especially in Buenos Aires. There are quite a few whatsapp and Telegram groups. Unfortunately I think the best place to start is FB. I also don't use FB much, but I do to find out info when necessary. I would suggest creating a FB just so you can read over the posts, ask questions, and find some expat groups that interest you. I've heard great things about Cuenca. My good friend @gringonation was just there recently and mentioned how it's a really popular spot for US citizens to retire. However, the difference I feel (I've never been to Cuenca, just guessing based off what my friend said) is that in Cuenca there seems to be a particular area where all the foreigners hang out together and live. BA isn't like that as much. There are tons of foreigners, but we're all spread out through the city and not concentrated in one main area. Or maybe something like that does exist that I just don't know about. As annoying as FB is, I do suggest creating an account just to do a little research. The links to the FB group and Telegram group are listed in the descriptions of this video.
Hi Liam! In the video description I have more updated rules. But basically, no! All of the Covid restrictions have been relaxed since I made this video at the start of 2022. All you need is a passport (if you're from the US). If you're not, double check for your specific country. But you do NOT need a PCR anymore! :)
Traveling solo to Northern Argentina from july 1-12, your videos have provided a ton of useful info so thank you so much :) I'm going to take your advice on reaching out to hosts and hotels via whatsapp if they want a deposit for a booking and if I can pay then in cash in person. I'll share an update how it works out! I am curious to know your thoughts on vegeterian food in northern argentina (I checked instagram and found plenty of veg/vegan cafes or places serving such options in BA) but more curious for Salta and near Iguazu. Are there any must-have veg dishes I could try?
Yayyyy I’m so excited for you to travel to the north; it’s my favorite area! Definitely reach out directly to hosts, it’s the best way. In terms of food- it’s possible but not as easy to find veg only food like it is in BA. But they do have veg empanadas and tortilla flavors. I can’t wait to hear how you like it!
Thanks for watching, Sabbottart. It's a nice idea for a video, but definitely not a nice idea to take public transport after an international flight of several hours with your suitcases, and lots of USD in your bag. :)
Thank you for infos but the volume is so low that I can hardly hear it, even though I turn it all the way up. Mac Book's amplifier was insufficient to hear :))
This video is from January! So most of the things listed are no longer required! No PCR, no insurance, no vaccines. My family came last month and only needed their passports! :)
Tap water is safe to drink, although it flavor leans to sourness and loaded with chlorine. The problem with water lays on the building water deposits. They often have one on the basement from where to pump the waters onto the distribution one at the roof, and even when there are periodic cleansing regulations, they may gather dirt when consumption is low enough for the water to settle for long time. When you buy bottled water they're labeled either "Agua mineral" (mineral water) or "Agua de mesa" (safe water) wich is the cheapest, but then you notice the later is just filtered tap water, for it retains the aforementioned flavor. However, at the floor level there's often a tap bringing water straight from the network, and many people use them to fill bottles to drink. You may either filter it, or leave the bottles open on a shelf for a couple of days for the chlorine to disipate and the sediments to settle down, and avoid drinking the last couple of fingers from the bottom were they were deposited, and you get the same safe water you'd buy for cheap.
Does anyone know if travel health insurance is required to enter Argentina and if so must it cover everything and must it cover your total time in Argentina?
Hi Nicki, thank you for this. We will be in BA (me & my son) soon! Can you please share the driver you hired? I was quoted $40 to Palermo. I feel like it’s a bit much.
They have! Definitely no PCR is required. I'm almost positive the proof of vaccine is no longer required either. Nor is the insurance. It's pretty much back to normal now. Basically just passport and DDJJ.
Hey Miriam- unfortunately the DIGITAL0FEE is no longer working for anyone. I have tried to find the latest code, but unfortunately there doesn't seem to be one at the moment. But if you use this link to create an account, and send yourself money (more than $100) within 30 days, then we will both get a $20 Amazon gift card: ssqt.co/mQqf7rF Hopefully that can offset the fee you had hoped to waive!
Thanks for the tips, such a helpful video! I do have a question though - 1. Do you need to pay a reciprocity fee to enter the country? I’m traveling soon to BA from California and I’m afraid that they won’t let me in the country due to that requirement. Looked it up on their website and it does say that we are required to. Thanks in advance!
Hi Evil. I have actually never heard of that. In that many times I've entered Argentina, not once have I been asked to pay a fee to enter. I most recently entered in December 2022 from Uruguay and they didn't ask for a fee. My family came in October and were not asked. I have actually never heard of anyone ever having to pay that.
@@NickiPostsTravelStuff it must be outdated info then I believe (checked Argentinas government website and it states that) thanks for clarifying it based on your experience!
Hi Jerry! I always use the WU because they give a great exchange and it’s safer. I don’t feel comfortable doing a lot of cambio exchanges on the street. But the rates are usually about the same and are based on the blue dollar rate. Check bluedollar.net
Previously we had to fill out the DDJJ forms online, which are linked on the description, but I don’t believe they are required anymore. If there are other specific forms they will probably provide them to you on the plane.
When you say, never use your credit card to pay in BA, so even hotel bookings online are a nono? Better to pay in cash then, or book before you come? Thanks
Things have changed a little since I made this video. Argentina is now allowing Visa and Mastercard to receive the blue rate (but not always!), so it can be possible to pay with a cc on those sites. But since they are not based in Argentina, you still may receive the official rate by paying online. I would usually try to filter for "pay when you arrive" and try to pay in cash if possible. It's really hard to advise on this topic as a 100% do this or that because each place does it differently. I've been to several places who allow me to pay in cash at the blue rate. But I also helped my friend check in to a hostel in BA and they charged him the official rate, even though he paid in cash. They said it was because he booked online.
Two other cool neighborhoods to stay: 1- Las Cañitas, walking distance to the Polo turf, the Casino and the biggest parks, fair mixture of young/middle age, residential/lively, lots to do during the day, places to eat an night life. Also its close to Palermo. 2- Barrio Norte, in between Palermo and Recoleta. my favourite neighborhood. Typical middle class professional residential area it has everyhing, parks, malls, restaurants, shops, quiet areas, hectic areas, banks, safety, and its in the middle of everything, you have every type of transport going though it. Also it has La Pharmacie cafe that makes hands down the very BEST medialunas in town!! 😁 Color note, Argentina has the biggest amount of shrinks per capita in the world. A small area in Barrio Norte is known as Villa Freud (Freudville) caus most of their private practices are there. 😁
Hi Seba, thanks so much. Great suggestions! I don't know Las Cañitas, but I'm trying to get to know Barrio Norte a bit more! I definitely need to try La Pharmacie Cafe now!! :) I had heard that about the shrinks in Argentina, but had no idea they were concentrated in Barrio Norte/Freudville haha
@@NickiPostsTravelStuff hey! Love your videos. Are you living here? Yes definitely try La Pharmacie medialunas its a very traditional café, go for merienda and you'll get them right out of the oven! :) Check out Las Cañitas theres lots of Airbnb and temporary rental in the area, is a bit of an Island, the Polo neighbourhood, more upper middle class students and young high income, walking access to Palermo Lakes, the rose gardens, the planetarium, and all the green!
Hahahaha good question. I honestly don't know the answer. I stayed in Balvanera in January and February and there were mosquitos. Not overwhelmingly, but they were there. There are lots of parks and forests near Palermo and Recoleta, so possibly more over there. But you can buy mosquito repellents at the store- like the ones you plug in the wall, or the ones you burn- to keep in your apt.
@@NickiPostsTravelStuff not really.. argentina has been the same since around 80 years ago.. but hey we have nice people here and it's cheap for you.. enjoy xD btw.. great video
Juan Gutierrez We we’re referring to prices, which have obviously changed between now and 2005. But yes, Argentina does have great people, I love this country. Thanks for watching! :)
@@NickiPostsTravelStuff i was refering to the economy itself.. it never changes.. the prices always increase here.. we have inflation since around 80 years ago.. the number changed but the situation not at all
All of it except the COVID stuff. You no longer need the insurance, COVID vaccination, etc. But all the social stuff, neighborhood stuff, etc is still accurate! :)
If you put Claro into your Google maps search, it will bring up all the locations and you can choose the closest/best one for you. I went to the one on Avenida de Mayo (878). Claro Argentina Av. de Mayo 878, C1084 CABA, Argentina +54 800-123-0611 goo.gl/maps/aSf2AWsKEf4KVCF59
@@NickiPostsTravelStuff Sorry, it looks like the jury is still out. According to one person, they supposedly ask for your travel insurance information on the declaración jurada, but others have said that "nobody cares about travel insurance." I'm entering Argentina on Wednesday so I will know for sure soon enough
@@edwardhill3410 hahahaha Sounds about right for Argentina! Things are not always super clear! More than likely they will not check, but I suppose it's good to be prepared just in case, with at least a week's worth of insurance to get you in the country without a problem. Hope all goes well for you. Enjoy Argentina! :)
It may differ depending on where you're from. I just googled it right now: ar.usembassy.gov/covid-19/ I know you no longer need to be vaccinated, you no longer need a PCR, and you no longer need insurance that covers covid. So probably just your passport, and the DDJJ.
Osvaldo, come ya te he explicado en los otros videos- SI SE PUEDE MIRAR CON SUBTITULOS EN CASTELLANO. Las instrucciones estan en la descripcion de cada video.
Hi Sharon! If you open the page on a Google Chrome tab, there is usually a pop up in the top right asking if you would like to translate the page. What browser do you use? Try Google Chrome and see of that helps you out!! :)
Districts Forest, Floresta, Liniers, Mataderos are not mentioned in video. Apparently they don't belong to Buenos Aires. I've been living in that sector for more than 6 months. Criminals are swarming there. Avoid.
take care, do not believe all these RU-vidrs talking about how nice we are. if you are thinking to move your life here before stay for 3 months at least, maybe 1 years .learn Spanish. learn about our idiosyncrasy and taxes... it is a very different situation when you are a tourist and when you are a resident. argentina is not this side of Pueyrredon Av..
The only part that has changed is the entrance stuff. Literally everything else is true: housing, neighborhoods, finding friends etc. many people find this video helpful. If you don’t like it, don’t watch it. It’s not all about you 🤷♀️
Hi Fortunato! I'm not sure. I don't think they have changed, but if you're having a hard time joining, then maybe it means the group is full?
