I got a pixie cut a year and a half ago and I love it. I am told I look like a pixie or like Audrey Hepburn. It has definitely changed the clothes that look right on me. I have a very gamine face and the cut accentuates it, so certain things I used to wear just look a little bit odd now. This was a great video!

One huge thing to consider before getting a pixie cut is whether it suits your lifestyle. Because it requires styling and washing your hair more often that when it's long. So make sure you have the time for this. And second, a few iconic pixie women: 1. Michelle Williams, mentioned in the video. When she had the pixie all her red carpet looks were on point. Her stylist understood the assignment 100%. She was all perfect ❤ 2. Eddie Sedgwick - iconic in every way. And she mixed short pixie with full glam and playfulness. 3. Goldie Hawn in the begging of her acting career. She had this amazing pixie/shag. It looked fantastic!

I disagree that a pixie always takes more time to style. I just think women with long hair have lower standards for how it should look and are more apt to put it up on a bad hair day. Men with short hair don't complain about it taking too long to style.

I remember clothes in the 90s being loud too. Remember the TV show, In Living color where SO many stars became famous? The dancers and the actors wore so much color. Especially that mustard color. United color or Benetton and the clothing store, Merry-go-Round.

I LOVED my Pixie for years! I’m not a small woman, but I had the BEST hairdresser, and she made me look great. It also allowed me to cut off all the old color. I had been coloring most or all of my adult life. (We had some EPIC FAILS, too!) So now I’m letting it grow again, and working with my natural color and texture. So far, so good! Still love a Pixie! Great video, Aly, as always! ♥️

I loved having a pixie cut, especially in my 40’s, it made me look ten years younger in my face. Unfortunately, it didn’t suit my preferred fashion style aesthetics- the relaxed, flowing boho aesthetics- typical for Soft Natural body types. In a pixie cut, I felt like I had to dress “gamine style” (not me at all) or masculine, sleek lines of Dramatic or Classic clean minimalist styles. I let my grey hair grow out naturally during the pandemic and when I re-emerged, I asked people what they thought. Most answered they loved it. So even in my mid sixties, with salt & pepper coloring, longer,shaggy hair suits my particular fashion style more. I dress stylishly, younger than most people my age and I usually get complimented every time I am out in public. Looking forward to the day I might go back to pixie cut...maybe in my nineties?😂

This was so much fun! I really like pixie hairstyles for women. I think it´s unusual and therefore I love it! SO many especially young women have long hair. And I think most of the time it´s boring. I myself tried a pixie like hairstyle many years ago because I always adored Audrey Tautou´s Pixie! Michelle Williams looks great with it, too. But I was disappointed. Now - and mostly due to your videos - I know why. I´m SN and although I have curly hair which I love - this hairstyle was too short for me - overall and around the ears. But I can very much appreciate Pixie´s on other women. BTW: What do you say to the theory that shorter hair on mature women distracts from the sagging jawline and draws the attention to the upper part of the face. I find it very interesting and agree. Not for all of course.

Thank you for this insightful video! I love your understanding of lines and structure. Though I still have absolutely no idea regarding my personal Kibbe ID 😅 I recently got a big chop (bust lenght to pixie, almost Mia Farrow cut) and love this style on me, love how it compliments my face. I feel like it makes me look more gamine, though as I said, I have no idea if I’m actually this type. Style wise, I see that I have to rethink some outfit choices. Also my hair appears darker now that it’s short, creating stronger contrast with my light skin. That’s all very interesting to notice. Looking forward to your upcoming pixie videos, I definitely feel like no one covers this subject so well ❤️
@JuliaKirsty
@JuliaKirsty 7 месяцев назад
I have tried so many different hair styles by now and the first thing I noticed was the need to adjust the way I dressed accordingly. There might be hairstyles that are more forgiving but those I liked the most definitely needed matching clothes. I do wear a pixie myself (super short nape area, open ears, slightly longer and textured on top, side swept bangs, styled very piecy and in a uniform, very light blonde color) and keep coming back to that exact hairstyle all the time. I've had different variations of a pixie and this one is the one that I love the most, especially combined with the way I prefer to wear my make up and the clothes I prefer to wear. Whenever I grow my hair into a softer, longer version of a pixie, I feel like my clothes don't work out anymore and I hate that. I actually matched my hair to my wardrobe, not the other way around and that might be why I keep coming back to this hairstyle. I also get a lot of compliments for this hairstyle from many different types of people (which doesn't really matter to me but I guess that means it actually looks good on me and not that I just think it looks good). I also prefer the styling process of this hairstyle over any other hairstyle I ever had. It is both convenient and impactful.

Slight correction! Those pictures of Audrey Hepburn are from the earlier/mid 50’s! Not 60’s. She actually sported both “longer” (think Breakfast at Tiffany’s) and shorter styles (more “mod” styles) in the 60’s. 🥰🙏✨🦋

Very educational video! Lately, I have been thinking about getting a pixie cut to look more mature and accentuate my round baby face. Watching this video makes me realize I have a lot more to consider wholistically about my appearance and image before I make such a drastic choice, like a pixie cut. Right now, my fashion and style need a lot of work. So I am going to take it one step at a time😅

Interesting that you say that more prominent jawline will not be that suitable for a pixie. There's a different point of view that is based on the idea of "facial thirds" and when the lower third is more prominent a very short hairstyle like a pixie will actually balance out your features by drawing attention to the upper third area. I think this is a concept used in Asian aesthetics like Korea, Japan and China, although I think artists also know about this concept. There's not that much info in English about it but you can check out Style Me Jen as she does cover the topic quite a bit.

I have a very short pixie cut with a fade in the back and a skin fade on the sides. The top and crown area is short and a bit longer, yet it compliments the rest of the cut. The key is finding a hair stylist who will listen and work with you. This was a long journey for me until I met my current stylist 10 years ago. My hair was cut gradually shorter in the last 10 years, and I feel confident, beautiful and amazing when I leave his chair.

Also. I am a Kibbe FN and I always, always wear my hair in a bun. Either high or low., smooth or messy. I have had bob haircuts many times, and they look good, but I always return to this hairstyle. It fits me. But I know the recommendations for my type call for hair with volume and movement and asymmetry. I’d love to see you talk about updos for FNs.

I’m a soft dramatic but I’ve had to go for a pixie because of health issues - I just can’t keep things looking tidy enough with my natural wavy texture when it’s long. I kept the top longer and have it wavy or curled so it’s softer, and the back and sides shorter so it looks tidy without any input. (Also I have glasses so if I have longer sides the glasses make them stick up and it looks messy!)

I've had long hair all my life. I have always taken good care of it and had really thick and straight hair. I usually never use heat on my hair or color it. I had bleached my hair one time in my life because my natrual haircolor is brown and I colored it black. About 6 months later I changed my mind and bleached it to go back to my natrual color. After doing it by myself, using bleach, blue schampo and brown color. It still had some red tones in it. I waited 11 months to bleach it again to try to get rid of the red tones. This was 2 weeks ago. I completly ruined my hair. It burned off about 1-2 dm from my scalp, luckily an amazing hairdresser saved my hair but he had to cut it into a pixie cut. I'm still sad, I don't feel comfortable or like myself in this hairstyle but I try to get used to it. I've watched alot of videos similar to this and pictures to get inspiration. I have recieved alot of kind comments and people say I look beautiful. I've been told it really fits my oval face shape and I should keep it short but idk..right now I'm still getting used to it. **Learning lesson, never bleach your hair at home because you never know if it will get ruined even though you have good hair and take very good care of it.

Honestly, I’m more confused than ever. I’ve had a very short pixie cut and loved it, but am now growing it out, and I feel it just doesn’t suit me as well. I’m tall and curvy (SD), so it shouldn’t work, but I have very small and pointed features with a fleshier face, so that’s a mixed bag. I also have super curly hair that should work better longer, but just ends up looking messy. 😂. Maybe it’s because my vibe is a bit edgy boho, and the pixie cut brings in more edge?
