Unlock the power of organic soil biology! Great soil health tips from Dan! His knowledge of soil biology, nutrients and amendments will help you understand how to have the best organic garden soil preparation possible! Make the your soil the best it can be by focusing on feeding the soil microbial biology, instead of feeding your plants. The reason this works best is because the soil microbes themselves are what actually feeds your plant's root system through mycorrhizal symbiosis!

Buying from Amazon instead of from more regional sources (there are many), for me, contradicts the basic organic premise of promoting soil health and local gardening/ farming communities. A local vendor has a lot of visibility and will usually try to give you good service and products because, if not, word will get out and there will be consequences. With Amazon, it’s not so direct.

Yes minerals are very important! You can overdo on anything but being organic it's much much more forgiving,some minerals tie up other minerals so you need to know something about how they all work together or don't work together in order to get the greatest benefit from them! I don't get too concerned about companion planting, I'm more concerned about the creating micro climates that are helpful for certain plants,like celery is a marsh plant so it likes cooler wet environment, peas like cool weather so try to plant them on the east side of something tall so they're shaded during the hottest part of the day,so those are the kind of things I consider when laying out my garden,I never worry about crop rotation either because if your biology is thriving there's no need for it,nature doesn't practice so why should we. @bubbles6124
@bubbles6124 3 месяца назад
@GardeningHomesteadingWoodwork I compost myself and vermicompost, and some Black Kow Manure just recently as I needed more material in there. We do have a municipal composting facility near me, in fact, but I have read that people are finding broken glass and too many plastics in it. I really dont have a way of unloading as my husband and I are not in the best of health physically. It took me quite a while to get the bed done, 10 years. I live in the Ca High Desert urban, so our native soil is compacted and awful. Lots of earthworms in there processing the compost I add. I generally use bone meal, blood meal, Azomite, Kelp Meal, Fish fertilizer. I'm cutting down on the fish, however, because it draws too many flies, so bad we could barely use our patio last year😮‍💨. I'll be interested to see what products you come out with.
@TheGreenMother
@TheGreenMother 3 месяца назад
@bubbles6124 Have you ever tried using a pea and bean inoculant? Soils vary and some may have it naturally and others do not. Also, even organic gardeners have had aminopyralid (Grazon) contamination because it gets sprayed on hay and doesn't break down in the digestive tract of animals. It kills broadleaf plants (beans, tomatoes, etc.) Some have complained about Black Kow in this regard. Aminopyralids have ruined entire organic growing operations. 😔

The ratios are in the video and even printed on the screen. I’d be interested to know the formula for other veggies. Do you use egg shells or bone meal for tomatoes? Tomatoes are my “thing” and I’ve always been able to grow them prolifically. I always love to hear what others are doing to succeed with non-chemical fertilizer methods too! So far, amazingly, we have almost identical methods of setting up our garden plot, seed starting, etc.; and I’ve only watched a couple of videos! And I share your love for the Lord too. I suspect that although we are in different countries, we have similar roots historically. God bless you and may your garden prosper!

Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life! And no one comes to the Father or enters Heaven except through Him! Thank you for the pea growing instructions. I planted my peas in cardboard toilet rolls and they are looking great. But now the roots are starting to come out of the bottom and I have to get them planted into a raised garden bed. My husband just completed building two new raised beds from some free wooden pallets. The property we moved to back in the fall is in the middle of 300 acres of forest in rural Georgia, and the soil is entirely red Georgia clay, so I cannot plant straight into the ground. I have got to get my pea seedlings planted, but I am concerned about all of the animals eating my pea plants. We sit on our front porch balcony and literally watch entire herds of deer move through the forest surrounding our home. And I know there are lots of rabbits in the woods surrounding our home also. So I guess I am going to have to build a fence around my entire raised bed garden. Another project we have to try and complete just to have a garden. It is hard to start a garden on a new property, especially one that sits in the middle of a woodland forest, with nothing but Georgia red clay for soil. It is so expensive just buying soil to fill the raised beds with, and then I have the problem of my entire property being surrounding with old growth trees that cast shadows over the entire property, making it hard to find a sunny spot to grow vegetables where they can get at least 8 hours of sun a day. I am starting to get discouraged, as I spent years dreaming about moving back to the country so we could once again raise our own heirloom organic vegetables, and raise heritage breed chickens for organic eggs. Say a prayer for us that God will give us wisdom and show us how we can have a productive garden to grow healthy food in these trying circumstances with little money to buy things like soil, fertilizers, and fencing. I know God will make a way. Thank you for your help and God bless you and your family.

Thank you for your wonderful comment! You can do it, with God's help of course! He'll help you if you ask! You'll probably need to build some strong tall fencing around your garden. Maybe even electrify it too. I'd make Hugelkultur beds if it was me starting out. Cardboard down first, branches, logs and then soil and compost. Then you can top-dress it with amendments tailored to the vegetables you're planting. Blessings! 😊

Are y'all former Amish members? I am friends with the Amish and you have a similar demeanor.

No we're not Amish, never have been and never will be! We're believers in the Lord Jesus Christ and seek to follow principles laid out in his Word the Bible!

@@GardeningHomesteadingWoodworkDo you believe that the Amish are not followers of Christ? They seem to follow Him more closely than we English.

@@JamieSantos According to Amish that have left that "faith" in order to follow Jesus, they are not Bible Christians.

Those seeds seem close, any need to thin them out when they start to grow?

Yes. Dad grew at least 3 Guinness recognized World Record tomatoes a few years ago. He also holds the current unofficial World Record for the largest/heaviest tomato that weighed 17.15 lbs. You can find a video on that tomato on our channel. Blessings! 😊
