Update: the lady that called me condescending came in late last week, apologized and sold me her 1922 Peace dollar. I guess she must’ve done some more research and realized I was being fair. 🤷🏼‍♂️

My parents regret not buying another Samsonite suitcase in the 70s when they won several hundred silver dollars occasionally a Morgan in Las Vegas! They traded for paper. Hind sight 20 20.

Unfortunately my LCS is not the most honest. A coworker of mine had some coins he wanted to sell and was told the gold piece was fake and lowballed him on the other coins. Knowing I was a collector he came to me. I was not in the position to buy what he had but told him what a fair price would be and put him in touch with a dealer about 50 miles away that I delt with. He took it to them and got more than double what the LCS had offered and slightly over what I had estimated

Coin shops also have the testing equipment to verify what you are selling is silver or gold. It would be harder to sell to another individual if you/they do not have any testing equipment.

I like how realistic and honest Josh is. It's unfortunate that if you walk into some shops telling them upfront that you know nothing about what you have, some dealer's will absolutely take advantage of that. And that shouldn't be the case, wether it's someone highly educated on what they have or someone that knows absolutely nothing, both customer's should in theory, get the same price for their coins. That's how you know you have an honest and trustworthy coin shop. Moral of the story is, do alittle homework and research what you have, know the value of your item's beforehand so when you walk in you have a reasonable amount to ask for. It's also very true that if you're looking to get the maximum amount for your coins, I would agree that peer to peer and dealing with individuals is probably best. But of course with that there's pros and cons to everything and only you can decide what's best for you

The town I live in we don't have a coin shop but we do have a couple of places that buy silver & gold. I had to sell some silver a while back the first place I went to he offered way less than spot like 6 under. I had Perth mint coins he said oh that doesn't matter. I said thanks but no thanks so I went to a jewelry store they said we only pay spot so I showed them the Perth mint coins and asked if they could give me 5 over spot and they said yes so I actually made more than what I payed for them so I figured that was a win😊

I live in Des Moines area. There are three major bullion/coin dealers. One is insane expensive, and low ballers. The second is mostly bullion, and very reasonable prices. The third is a coin, and bullion dealer. I bounce back and forth on collecting. If prices are trending high I collect coins. I noticed if bullion is high, it’s easier to collect lower end coins. If I were selling I wouldn’t sell a lot at a time. But I would feel very comfortable seeking his judgment. Big coin shops have a network buying and selling. He would do his best to offer a good deal. He knows we are a team looking to support each other. He is a diamond! Highly respect him and his family. Not all dealers are looking out for your interest.

It can definitely be worth it to transact with a dealer at times. It's more safe and eliminates most of the concern of being sold counterfeits. The quick cash and ability to sell stale products that would take months to move is great too. It all depends on what and how much you are trying to sell.

I agree with your approach on having the right priorities prior to collecting PMs. Taking care of your loved ones, never going into debt to purchase PMs, having an emergency supply of cash (which is still KING, even though it is loosing value thanks to the FED). I had 21 loose Morgan and Peace dollars that I sold this past Friday to my LCS (Coinhuskers, hi Dave). They ranged in condition from JUNK to what I would consider reasonably nice. I expected to get a range in price from melt value to $30. I even expected to not even get an offer for 3 of them, they were that junky. I ended up getting a range in price from $22 to $35. I was very pleased. I even made a small profit on a couple of the nicer ones, and I had just bought them within the past year. Have some knowledge on what you have, work with a reputable and honest LCS, and you'll be fine.

I think many of us would like to hear a conversation with a coin shop about the recent trend of banks who are closing the accounts of LCSs, presumably, because banks do not like to hold cash on site. If the trend continues, and local coin shops are forced to shut down, our stacks will no longer be liquid, or near as liquid.

I thought most all the coin dealers in Central PA were crooks until I went into a Pawn Shop yesterday? They take the spot at the bottom of the barrel, moving Car Dealers up on spot? I was a little short on my mortgage payment this month and had some nice diamond and RARE stone men's rings to get a loan on? The guy looked them over carefully and asked "how much do you want for them"? I knew exactly what he was up to but I was dumb enough to tell him? For the three very expensive rings I did not get close to what I needed, a few cents on the dollar of their total value? He said Loan or Purchase is the same price? We only buy for the gold value, not the stones? But I could guarantee you if he bought them and resold them they would be back to original value? Just like the coin dealers in Central PA depending on which side of the counter you are determines the value?

I watch your site as much as possible. I enjoy your program. I have a story and wonder what you think. I have been to coins shops that have been great to deal with. I did go to a coin shop to sell about 15 coins out of my collection. I knew what I might get for them. The coin shop I went to offered me a low price for them. He new I was in there to get the best deal I could get. I thanked him and started to leave. As I was leaving he asked me to pay him $50 for looking at the coins and not taking his offer. ( As you walk into his store there is a sign stating they give Free Estimates ) I left and then went to another coin shop which offered me 30% than the previous shop. I took The offer. Would you have paid the fee he was asking me to pay as I was leaving?

The only advantage of selling your coins to a coin store is the fact that you can convert your Silver & Gold into cash immediately. As long as you’re making a profit on your coins, every dollar doesn’t matter. This is assuming you need the money now, and you have coins the shop wants. Stick to easily convertible bullion, and stay clear of the oddball stuff, that you will most likely lose money on at a coin shop.

I would like to know the difference of what these coin shop dealers have to pay for the coins when they themselves have to buy them from another dealer to what they will pay the average person coming off the street for the same coin? I am finding in a lot of cases if the coin shop is buying it from A supplier they pay quite a bit more than what they're willing to give you walking in off the street. With that said how come they can't offer you the same price as they would have to buy it at. If I need to sell any of my silver or what-have-you because of some emergency I will split the cost of the premium they take half I take half. The online coin shops do not have a problem charging you top dollar for the silver that they know they will only buy back at either spot or buck or two over. This is after they have had to pay three times the premium on what they want to give you. To me to Corn shops are getting a lot worse. Or should I say greedy. The state of Missouri is real close to passing a law on gold and silver tender so that if you go to say pay your property tax they will give you the price that the silver and or gold is going for at that time plus the premium that they are selling it for online. I'm sure that premium will be an average of many different coin dealers. Let's face it you can't hold it unless you pay the premium. Just like with silver eagles the premiums are still crazy. Something makes me think that the government is behind this especially when it comes to the silver eagles.

i was on vacation this past weekend and came up short on funds, so i had to sell most of all of my consitutional silver in my collection to a local coin shop around the area. most of em were common dates in various conditions i ended up selling $7 FV of dimes, $9 FV of quarters, and $4 FV of halves, including my first 1923 peace dollar. for it all i got about $210, which im not sure if that was good at all. i calculated based on pure melt alone should've been around $300, but i guess when it comes to selling gold and silver, dealers wont give you all of what you're expecting. oh well, silver comes and goes i suppose

They nevwr even offer apot for gold. They all are 87, 90, 95% of spot. Worked in one for aix months and been to several. The only good thing is the transaction is instant. Although sometimes a lot of them like to write checks

Silliness... silver dollars aren't bullion and they don't sell near as fast. He pays $1 over for something he sells for 2.25 because they sell faster. As he said he has hundreds of them he would have to sell before hers so why should he be expected to pay strong for it? He also specifically said that she thought hers was "worth more".

Definitely sell it yourself. Coin shop pawn shop jewelry gold and silver shops basically have to much over head. And offer nothing 150 for 200 of silver

Hey Google Maps is great as well, but as you are following its directions make sure you are still looking at the road, because you might end up in the woods somewhere😂

Took a few items to see what I would get offered to my LCS. 15 2016 Pandas BU in capsule was offered 21.80 per coin. 2021 CC Morgan OGP 174, 2021 Peace Dollar 99. Silver v75 ms69 early release 175. Gold v75 PF70 they said they already had a few, which I didn't see but it would probably be around 10k-12k. Thoughts on these offers?

Didn't sell any of them as I felt prices were low but I could be wrong. Would love to see what you all think.

I did end up selling a few Pandas not all 15 yet. Average price sold on those Pandas has been 28 with the highest being 30.

Question - when Josh stated he paid $1.00 over spot for the silver rounds, did he pay his customer $1.00 over BID Spot or ASK Spot?
@SilverSeeker
@SilverSeeker 10 месяцев назад
I don't know but likely bid. The difference is like 10 cents though, it's not a huge swing either way.

I base all of my buy/sell prices based on ask. I never use bid. Thanks for the question! :)

Like I brought up before the elderly with 2000 plastic Bitcoin apparently have 2000 Bitcoin and spent 100$ for them. Some people are arrogant and refuse to learn. (Relating to the peace dollar scenerio)

if its gone up so much that Im making a killing, I'll forego a little to keep from waiting for ebay sales. But otherwise, ebay it is. 15% fees blah blah blah....and how much is that premium on an eagle? Yeah, WAY more than 15% lol. I'll take putting it on ebay and the 15% fees most of the time. I buy from my dealer in town here anymore though. With all the fake crap coming from china, its just not safe to buy anything thats not new product straight from the mint/producer.

It’s a crazy world we live in where 11% over spot is considered a “good deal”

I have sold a few things that are gold and silver and I’ve done better on eBay than I would by scrapping it because I sold it as a jewelry piece instead of just for scrap.
