I recently bought a Z71 Tahoe and I’ll tell you that towing a 4500 pound travel trailer was very nice. Bought it one weekend and took it camping the next. Love it!
@@tonyabailey1028 Hi Tonya, no issues with it mechanically. I’m having an issue with the radio, but who even listens to FM anymore?!? I drive my Tahoe daily (manage 4 projects in different parts of the city) and my only issue is that people are always staring at how awesome my Z71 is 😎 Get you a Tahoe Z71!
@@tonyabailey1028 I realize this is a year later than your question, but I suppose it actually helps answer more now than then. I have the 2021 Tahoe Premier with 46,000 miles. I haven’t had a hiccup with mine. I have towed my 6,400 lbs trailer all over the Northwest and it handles my trailer without any issues. It has the 5.3L instead of the 6.2L. I wanted that engine because I already have a Range Rover that requires premium fuel and didn’t want to have an additional vehicle requiring that extra expense. It’s nice being able to pull up and pay .60+ cents less, a gallon. Also, if I’m traveling at 60-65 mph, I’ll see 22 mpg easily. I also towed my sons Mazda from Oregon to Oklahoma on a car dolly. The Mazda weighs in at 3,100 lbs and I’m assuming the dolly was around 300lbs. Even going over the mountains of Oregon, Nevada, Utah, and Colorado, I still maintain an average of 15 mpg with the car in tow. I was more than impressed.
I’ve seen quite a few videos on this Tahoe review for the 2021 and I gotta say this guy really shows the content very well great video man very detailed on the new features
Damn Steven you got a really good job getting to test drive all these vehicles I bet your family has really good cars because you've already tested them out great job
The RST trim is just an LT appearance package. The RST should be essentially a Tahoe SS, but sadly it's just a very expensive blackout package with stupid 22 inch wheels. This should have the 6.2, track tuned and lowered suspension, performance tires, magnetic ride control, standard LSD and more aggressive seats.
@@andybub45 I mean the denali is already 85k, so yea I think people would be willing to pay for a legitimately track ready tahoe that was modified for the track. The Durango SRT, AMG GLS 63 and others prove just how potent the market is for these things
Not quite true, the RST has more standard options in the new Tahoe. I just purchased a 21 LT. I love it but coming from a 19 Silverado RST which was just a dressed up LT. I can confirm it's different.
I love the Tahoe (and the longer Suburban). I have a 2017 Suburban and it's the best vehicle I've ever owned. The new ones look to be even better, with IRS and a lower load floor and a bunch of nice upgrades.
Nice review, but ask the Chevy press people who lend you the vehicle why you cant option adaptive cruise control on any tahoe/suburban except in the premier and high country trims. Lt/rst/z71 need to get adaptive cruise as an option too - stupid decision...
zefrum3 I know some people hate it, but for me, once I had a vehicle with it, I couldnt go back. Makes long drives much more bearable. My point was that it should at least be an option in all trims not just the top two.
That the tahoe is so different from the 1500 silverado is very bad in the long run. Since this means that spare parts will be more expensive, and used spare parts will be less. And this is exactly what makes the 2000-2006 tahoe such a great work truck, because it is reliable, cheap to maintain and very comfortable in everyday performance
New subscriber. Love that you and your dad work together so well. Must be awesome to work with you pops. Salute to you guys from here in Ga of the United States
This is the only guy showing a real tow with the suspension 95% of buyers will end up with: the standard non-air ride suspension. All the other vids right now focus on the AT4/Z71 or Denali/High countries, and GM makes sure to provide them with the air ride that is very difficult to get right now. Also only available in those models. I have a ‘21 Yukon XL but standard suspension with the tow package. It tows great, although I’m disappointed with the amount of squat at high payload.
right up until you are paying 100 per tank on 91 octane. Had one a 2019 already. I will get this with the 5.3 and then add cat back exhaust and a whipple supercharger.
I've been driving my 21 Tahoe for 3 weeks and I must say the interior is really impressive. It's long overdue but welcomed. At 6' 2" 270 I can sit in the third row. Overall I'm happy with how it drives and the tech.
Own a 2015 LTZ Chevy Suburban. I think this is a nice vehicle the 2021 but the cost is not worth it. I added new wheels, paint and new lights front the Cadillac rear lights and the truck looks fabulous. I have even added additional headrest screens and took it to the dealership for a recent service and they loved the changes. They had a new Suburban there and trust me people were looking at my changes.
GREAT VIDEO!!! Very informative.. I'm thinking of getting a 2022 tahoe n was wanting to kno for sure it will pull my can-am... I need a bigger family suv n I think I made my decision.. thanks!
Has anyone else climbed underneath the new Tahoe to look at the independent rear suspension? To my eye, it’s ‘low’ and exposed. 8” of ground clearance over a wide span (not just a low spot in the center, like a sold rear axle). May not be a big deal, but it caught my eye right away when looking while at the dealership. Sequoia rear end (also independent) seems to tuck things away a bit better and provides 9.6” clearance. Might just be my perspective.
Just imagine a family with that Nav request feature, the kids constantly annoying the parents in the front with nav requests, "Let's go here, no here."
We blur the lines... Distance in metres is common, but most people are still most comfortable expressing weight in pounds (unfortunately). When an Aussie says "1 tonne", you know they mean 1000 kg. When a Canadian says the same, you gotta ask, "Imperial or metric?"
I have a 2015 suburban and I’m anxiously awaiting the reviews to come out for the 3.0L duramax. I use my suburban as the family hauler and for towing. I have no real complaints about the 5.3 but if that Duramax is better for mpg and towing, it’s going to be upgrade season
Truck King I’ve been very impressed with the trucks but my main reservation, specifically with the suburban is the payload capacity. My current 5.3 LT only has 1499lbs of payload. It has made picking a travel trailer kind of difficult when taking 6 passengers into consideration. Hoping the Diesel engine doesn’t come with a huge payload trade off.
Excellent review, Stephen. Looks like a great truck though the price is horrific. I'm wondering, how would the rear suspension handle towing an RV vs a truck towing the same RV? Would the different suspension in the Tahoe be worse for controlling trailer sway?
I have this vehicle with the 5.3. I tow a 26 ft. roughly 6700 pound TT. I previously owned a 2018 LS with the air bags. This one tows even better than my 18. Very little to no sway. The 5.3 is adequate. although you youngsters may want the additional power of the bigger engine. Fuel econamy is about the same. Roughly 10mpg towing. My wife loves it which says it all.
I like this new Tahoe a lot (except its price). I like the styling of this RST package. Are the 2 black rectangles low in the grill for fog lights? None of the photos I found show fog lights. If N what is their function? Sliding center counsel also gives you a safe function when slid forward.
Nice rig, always liked the Tahoe. I don’t really get the acceleration test while loaded. Uphill, downhill, and braking performance is much more valuable info. I also rarely tow something that is 7k with 0 wind resistance. Tow a 7k travel trailer with a nice side/head wind - that’ll really test if the vehicle can handle the weight with ease. My vehicle is rated for 11000lbs, a 26ft travel trailer on a windy day makes it feel less than adequate. I have no issue with power, just handling.
Great video! Looks like this Tahoe has the standard suspension. Looks level when you were towing. Does the standard suspension have load leveling in the rear?
Greetings, I just received my new car (Yukon Denali XL 2022) and I have noticed that the default driving mode is on Tow, and when trying to change it to Normal, It does not change. Any Advise ❓
But the swing arm back too lower, I think if the tire low pressure is beri dangerous because the swing arm will be touch the ground, thank you, this is my opinion
Steven how did you get that Tahoe in Ontario with Michigan plates over the boarder? Don’t we have the new Tahoe’s yet at our dealership? What’s the hold up that Canada doesn’t have it yet.
Too bad 6.2 L is not available on normal trims, only with expensive top trip with huge number of unnecessary staff just to jack up the price. Initially was planning to change my 2016 Tahoe next year for new model, but now will get something else. Hopefully their will get smarter and give this option on usual trims.
Great video. Liked how you actually towed a trailer with weight on it and towed it on a country gravel road. Also appreciated the conversion of miles per gallon to liters to hundred k's for us here in New Zealand. Just one minor thought. You said it puts out 400?+ horses and 440 pound feet torque. Can you convert that into newton meter torque for us kiwi folk in ya videos as well PLEASE :-)
Do any of the other trim levels come with more tire? If somebody wanted more tire but didn't want that rear media thing what would be the trim for them? Also I want more vehicles with a column shifter.
Stephen, On the surface everything certainly looks swell but I wish I had half as much faith in GM's ability to make a long-lasting truck as I do in your ability to make a long-lasting review ;-)
Is air suspension necessary to tow boats and such? I wish they offered load leveling suspension rather than having to get the 4 wheel air suspension... wondering how bad it squats with a heavier load
The 22 inch low profile tires are JUNK for a tow vehicle. I currently drive a 2019 Suburban and have ruined 3 rims on pot hole. Not enough Cushing for this heavy of a vehicle!!
Dear Truck King, I know this is a bit off topic.. But! In your opinion. With a travel trailer that has a dry weight of 2700lbs and Max trailer weight of 3500lbs. Is that too much to ask of a Wrangler? Should I be shopping for a vehicle with max tow in the 5000lbs range or would the tough little jeep be OK? Thank you!
GM and Ford are giving people options. Unlike Chrysler, who keeps rolling out the same truck with the same body. Plus, the jeeps aren't reliable either.
