Update!
Tutor Sessions exist! The wording in the later part of the video is perhaps a bit sloppy. I always had sessions in my physics curriculum, but this only applied to the major subjects. Big courses usually have a "Zentralübung", where a professor solves some problems in front of the class, and a "Tutorübung", in which a fellow student or PhD goes over the homework problems in a class of 20-30 people.
There are also now several restaurants on campus located in the Galileo that offer late-afternoon / dinner dining.
In this video I present reasons why you should perhaps not study at TUM. After attending the Technical University of Munich for my undergraduate and graduate studies, I have experienced both the pros and cons of being there.
This video is the second in a 2 video series, with the other one covering the pros of studying at TUM and coming out soon.

A lot of the points you point out don't only aplly to TUM but to all/most universities in Germany. Though if you want to have of a practical approach and a lecture where the lecture is more between a seminar and a (school) lesson it's smarter to go to a Hochschule. However most if the programms tbere are in German. By the way it's normally required for international students to know German at a B1/B2 level so they can be sure that you are able to navigate live in Germany.

The reson not to study there is that the research staff is not incentivised to teach. They usually do the bare minimum but still deliver hard exams. I had exams where I filled out only 1/3 and still got a 3.0 GPA because they had to adjust the grade so much. In the US teaching is actually enjoyable.

How much students for 1 teacher? Is teachers help or just reading lectures? Is there an example video of how learning process happening, lecture or something else?
@ac_insights
@ac_insights Год назад
It really depends on the course. In some courses (especially during masters) there can be 1 professor for 10 students. Other courses (especially the large general courses in undergrad) can have 1 professor and 2-3 assistants for over 500 people. However, these larger courses also oftentimes offer tutor sessions and a central tutoring lecture. It also depends on what major you study. Physics by nature has e.g. less students overall than engineering, so the avg. course size is much smaller. Hope this can help!

Why don’t students live around the Garching campus to avoid commute and are there no tutorial sessions accompanying a lecture?
@ac_insights
@ac_insights 2 года назад
There are some modern student dormitories in Garching city, which is about 2km south of Garching-Campus. It definitely exists, but the vast majority of students still live in Munich city and choose to commute. The reasons vary, but I would assume wanting a more active city lifestyle (not much going on in Garching), luck finding an apartment, and closer proximity to the city center. Regarding tutorial sessions, I always had sessions in my physics curriculum, but this only applies to the major subjects. Big courses usually have a "Zentralübung", where a professor solves some problems in front of the class, and a "Tutorübung", in which a fellow student or PhD goes over the homework problems in a class of 20-30 people. This depends on the subject, however.

But in Europe Universities are basically all like it was described in this video: the level of lectures is still high but there is no such things as dormitories. I've been studying at Politecnico di Milano for 4 years and I commute for about 2 and a half hours each day, just like many other friends.
