Main three points: 1-active recall(read a page , go away, come back and recall in mind what you read then open the book and refill the gaps ,do it till you remember it all) 2-practice (past) papers( they gonna show you where you stand and till what what extent you are prepared, the things you're not familiar with, go make a recall of that) 3-the burnout line( how to work intensely, it's basically about the number of hours you stay focused, take breaks I guess.. and don't stress:))
The only self improvement youtuber for students that actually uses themself for reference and in the thumbnail instead of some hot, irrelevant dude off pinterest
@@mohneeshsharmacouple months ago i saw myself on a pinterest post, it was crazy lmao. like i think if u just search ‘self improvement youtubers’ on pinterest its the first post.
Summary of the Video ( Point 1-3 ): 1. 1:23 Active Recall. Read the page, go away for 5 min., come back and recite what you know, and then fill in the gaps of knowledge. Repeat this and slowly build on knowledge. Taking breaks gives time for the brain to process information. 2. 3:04 Practice Papers. Answer exam papers from past students while hiding the answers. It shows you your weaknesses and you could repeat the process making progress in your weaknesses. 3. 5:27 The Burnout Line. You should do intense work, but have long periods of recovery ( like the pomodoro technique ) to avoid burnout and shallow work. Either work hard or rest hard, but not in the middle. I do recommend watching "Marty Lobdell - Study Less Study Smart" because it covers even more ideas on studying.
if you spread the past exam papers, you can get caught for cheating.... I guess in Asia they have past exams readily available to everyone? not too sure how to do #2...
It's 1:47 and I have math exam tomorrow and studied for like 2 hours, also I didn't attend like 70% of the lessons and I'm in this middle zone he mentioned...
im about to have the most important exam in my life in 3 days and this appeared on my youtube page! I always have problems w my procrastination but this video help me out, thanks dude
I must say, thank u sm man. I recently moved from the US and found it really difficult to understand how to learn and study in IGCSE because the learning style in the US is much different and in my opinion, horrible. After finally understanding how these study methods work and how I personally can use them, I can already feel so much more information being registered in my head and I am able to carve out an actual path or goal for me to take for my exams. Hope u continue to succeed!
I've heard many people talking about active recall and other study techiques, but yours was unique. It was a striaght point to point explanation and I've never been so clear about it until I found this. Thankyou soo much 😢
In India even we have 10 yrs papers concept. We generally refer to them as PYQs (Previous year questions) They are applicable to 10th and 12th standard students. But for students appearing for college entrance exams like JEE and NEET they need more than 10 yrs of papers.. Probably 36 yrs papers But the paper pattern and the type of questions keep on changing
Your videos are genuinely phenomenal. They touch on subjects that we already know, like active recall, but expand on it to show how it works, why it works, and the results of the work itself. Amazing!
I gotta say man, I love how every single one of your videos are ACTUALLY HELPFUL and the advice you give is realistic. No bs, just great advice. Thanks bro
Well that's Something i know that even if i force myself to do it i definitely not doing it ,cause i'm lazy I have a really important exams next week and i'm hear wasting time thank you for reminding me that i have to study ❤
00:03 Use the 80/20 rule to study effectively 01:16 Active recall is the best way to study 02:34 Using flashcards and practice papers for effective studying 03:48 Use practice papers to simulate exam day and improve gradually 05:04 Practice papers prepare for the real exam 06:16 Work hard, rest hard, don't stay in the middle 07:27 Work in short sprints with high intensity followed by long recovery periods. 08:43 Focus on the intensity of work, not on increasing time.
That’s definitely true bc for most of the A levels i was basically doing shallow work trying to study for so long every day but my grades stayed at around C and B. But for the last month I’ve actually been lazier but when i do work i just target it at areas that i know i need to improve and i only learn what i need to know, so for bio i’ve been doing papers, marking them and filling in the topic gaps with snaprevise flashcards which r rlly targeted. It rlly helped me improve my exam wording and understanding. I managed to go from C to A on one of the papers which im so grateful for. But now i need to focus on improving the grades of my other subjects which are more content and essay structure based. Hopefully i can fix that for the exams in May. Thanks for the video :)
I knew this guy was onto something when he literally described me in 6:25 I'm sitting here with all my books open, trying to study and watch videos at the same time. And not just any videos but videos about how to study smart and not hard. Who am I kidding, really? I'm always in this yellow shallow zone and I hate myself for it. Thank you so much for pointing that out right before my exam. Loved this video. Subscribed!
it's my first time watching him he speaks straight facts and things that actually make sense I literally love this guy he is cute so the video keeps me attached and everything just falls into place when he says it (the gimme a kiss was soo cute😭😭😭)
i have the first exam for my finals tomorrow, I wish I had seen this video sooner 😭😭😭😭 but thanks a lot, it was really helpful and hopefully I wont be procrstinating so much next time
This is honestly the best channel I've ever come across. Every video attacks an aspect of life I deeply want to improve. So many topics that I thought only I struggle in, your videos proved me that I'm not alone and its a journey where I'm rectifying it with everyone else. Thank you so much.
Its my first 2 weeks of high school, and though things are starting off relatively easy, i extremely appreciate this advice still as, you neverknow when it's gettin real.
Making your brain understand that you shouldn't spend 8 hours a day studying is such a huge limiting belief to destroy. But what a difference it makes when you get time to enjoy life AND getting higher grades.
In India we have this strategy of past ten year question papers. Every student does this probably coz sometimes in the exams the questions are repeated. I have PHYSICS exam tomorrow and chemistry after a week. Can you give tips on chemistry?
About the burnout line I usually am in all three zones. Intensely studying for some time, then I go to rest and before I go back to intense study I do active recalling throughout my day. So I’m kinda always studying but just doing bare minimum. And it works! Cause then I remember stuff better and know where I need to study more. I ask myself simple questions like “when did the battle of Yorktown happen again” and then I see if I can remember and basically info dump everything I know in my head. I do this while walking to school or hanging out with friends even. It’s really low effort but works so well
Ig raise efficiency and time at the same time keeping in mind to limit Distractions. Also, don't do everything just prioritise the important chapters, take previous year papers, see what type of questions are asked and practice accordingly. Also, the time you practice questions, should be equal or more than the time you spend in learning the theory. Take regular tests like twice a week or so. Rest you can modify according to the exam you're appearing for. All the best!
@@jnishaera I am half way through the syallabus approx 49 Chapters , theory wise. Currently lacking practice questions. So I will keep that in mind to practice more questions. The hardest things to me are Maths and Organic Chemistry.
nahh this the greatest video ive ever watched wtf , these tips sound so simple but they work hella well . ive never actually realised any of them myself ,ty so much.
today was my first final exam, of Physics. Day after tomorrow I'll have Chemistry and that's like my weakest subject so I wanna do my best. Thanks for the tips dude
thank you for opening my eyes! I really didn't know if I was doing enough work or if I just thought so. because at a time when others, without putting in any effort, received the same marks as me, it became unclear to me why this was so heh
This is exactly! What I needed The video is clear explained I always push myself, now I realise I'm doing bullsh*it too, yes I did notice that whenever I wanted to study more, I set the timer for 40 mins and 3 mins break and start studying but in reality I wait for the timer to go off and push my self a little bit until the timer goes off without studying effectively Now that I have learned how to study effectively, thanks ruff this is the exact video I want 🖤
thank you, really. i think this is probably the most helpful advice. ive done similar tactics to this, like active recall (not the same as you put it though, i like to give fake lectures by talking to myself and notice when i fall short with my knowledge). i just have to do practice exams. i have ap bio on Thursday, which is based completely on memorization and correctly articulating your vocab from across the units, and math.
My man when he said just keep repeating the same thing to fill the gaps got me smiling and happy since this the method I used to grind on games, man you got yourself a subscriber here, for some reason this is very happy with the song and your voice so fast that makes me to focus.
My method of learning is just listening to whatever the teacher/professor explains to you, since they already did their best to simplify things so students can understand the contents of what they are learning, while i also note them in a book (its like making a save state on ur brain just by listening) it helps remember the main points of a lesson. And then while its close to exam, where my friends already start studying, im just still chilling here playing games and talking to my online friends, i only study right when its exam day and its around 1-2 hours before the exam starts, i just read the notes i wrote and remember the main point by only light reading the book for 5-15 mins and during exam i just connect the main points with my own words exactly like 2:37, and i can remember whats being taught again in those short amount of time. Its like you already have a working experience just by listening to what ur teacher/prof explain and the experience kicking in just by lightly reading the book again for a short time and it sort of works for me since i still get straight A's and sometimes B+ as my score result Extra notes : I play games that can improve brain memory and strategy games to constantly make you think, so your brain is well trained and eventually makes u remember things faster
@@pansy4687 let's just say we don't talk about that math test anymore (I am going to need to marry a VERY RICH AND SMART husband to survive). But I aced French. Thx for asking 🙂
this is the best advice for teens and younger I've seen on youtube so far, this dude talks actually facts and things teens can understand, unlike other videos that talk way too much bullsh*t that strays away from the point of the video. also bro quoted Master Roshi (Dragon ball) without even knowing, comment if you realized the quote.
I’m a Korean student of a special-purpose high school (mine is for foreign languages) and about three weeks away from my exam, and this is the MOST informative video I’ve ever seen. I’ve already known some of it but never followed all of the ways introduced in this video. These tips are very clear and inspiring, as I value rest and sleep the most. I’ll be aiming for the 1st class in my major this semester, or maybe 2nd 🫣
Idk if a lot of coutry have this, but my country has an official site (where people can see the exams schedules) and in that site there are all the previouse exams from the previouse years (like fase1, fase2, special fase, from all the past exams) and we also got editors that do school books that also have books for exams season prep. So guys if your coutry also has this use it cuz the questions sometimes are the same and even if they arent its what u learn in school so u just need to do it. I advise starting from the most recent cuz obviously the program changes and also the data so yeah, im from a small coutry that doesnt speak a language that is really known or easy to learn so ima just say that is UE coutry so idk if others have but prolly yes
this is the best video i’ve ever found on how to study, all i’ve ever seen is those cutesy videos where they’re like “you gotta write your notes and use this silly little app and make flashcards blah blah blah” i will definitely be taking notes of this
Wow I finally realized why I put off studying so often for exams and crammed everything til the last minute: it forced me to do deep work and then I had so much more time weeks before the test to do what I wanted. But there comes a point where you can’t fit everything into a couple days so being able to do that condensed, deep work further ahead of exam day will really help. Thank you so much, man🙏
