When a singer failed to show up for her performance of the national anthem at a game between West Virginia University and Kansas, police officer Carlton Smith jumped in. Someone remembered Smith, a former contestant on "American Idol," was in the house, working security His knockout performance stunned the crowd. The scheduled singer, Leslie Dorchester, got stuck in traffic during a really bad snowstorm pounding West Virginia on Tuesday. #InsideEdition

Agree (Christina's was an epic fail). AND HE SANG IT CORRECTLY. It's all at the "banner" part. "Oh, say, does that star-spangled BAH-NER-ER yet wave" (not "ba-ah-ner"). I'm sure you know what I mean. Even Whitney Houston, who was the best with her creative license, sang that part correctly. Both performances make me so proud of (and sentimental for) our country.
