UPDATE: Good News! Thank you to the Richard/Bloody Producer and DR for making all the videos available again (EDIT: most but not ALL videos) 😃 What also happened is that I ended up speaking to the Bloody Producer; he made the point - both publicly and privately - that he wished that we’d got in touch before publishing this video. But I want to clarify a few things first: First thing I’d like to say is that primarily this was made as a reaction video; the purpose of it is to SHARE the old content that we had on our hard drives with the public because it wasn’t available anymore, and hadn’t been for more than one month. Simple as that. Although the mystery of why they were taken down in the first place has since been explained by Richard/BP, it wasn’t our core objective to find out. Nothing shifty. We wanted to make the videos available for all to watch via a fair use/reaction video sort of thing. Another thing about Richard/Bloody Producer mentioning that he wished that I’d “reached out” makes it sound like we have been on good terms ever since and I simply didn’t want to mention it to him. The last communication we had was in 2016 when I didn’t sign the last contract and it was made quite clear how things were at that point and there’s been no communication up until now. Long story short: things haven't been cool between us for quite some time. We both have had chances to chuck out an olive branch at many opportunities, but ultimately didn't. I felt that we were releasing this purely for the sake of sharing content with you - the people watching - not to do the dirty on DR or to stir up a controversy. People have written about this news over a month ago; blogs asked me for interviews about it; Tony Northrup made a video titled “DigitalRev DELETED!” On 2nd November 2023 with over 80k views. If either Lok or I wanted to jump on the Hot Controversial News bandwagon, we could’ve done it much, much earlier. Alas, I have apologised to Richard/Bloody Producer directly for not attempting to contact him before hand. And the good thing is that, as Richard and I are both grown-ass men, we can talk again, bury the hatchet - let bygones be bygones - and just move on. And even more importantly: the videos are back online on the DRTV channel and, well, Richard/BP has encouraged us to make more reaction videos if we want, which is great because we really enjoyed watching those old videos together and I hope you have too! Thanks for the support, everyone! Love from Me

It does say a lot that it had to become a pain in the arse for them before they even addressed the issue. But as it all seems to have been sorted out amicably in the end; yes, it's best to not go around accusing people.

Hey Kai & Lok, Bloody producer here. First thing first the videos have bene restored (there’s a post on DRTV channel explaining what happened). Long story short, no one is monitoring the channel so things decay. I wish you’d reached out to me first, but I also understand why you do what you do. I haven’t been back to our old channel for years, and this certainly brought back memories. I still remember the hundreds of weekly meetings we had together, exchanging banters and ridicule each other’s haircuts. I remember our shared love for Top Gear, and Lok our shared Apple fanboyship. Those were the most fun 7 years I had work-wise, and I still miss those days a lot. I’m sure you’ll agree that those were also our most creative years, daring to think big (nothing compared to today’s Mr Beast era but those were some big ideas on RU-vid back then!). I’m glad we got it going for so long. I’m also glad you guys continue carrying on making these videos. I have reached out personally and hopefully you got my messages. Would be happy to catch up whenever you guys are back in Hong Kong. Please do more of these reaction videos. I’d be the first one to watch! And thanks for bringing back my memories, and renewing the interest in our old channel and content. Cheers, Richard (Bloody Producer)

The explanation, from @DigitalRevTV: "We are now aware of the “disappearance” of videos from this channel. There is no longer a team for DRTV therefore this channel and its associated email inbox are not monitored. An updated agreement sent to the channel’s email address was not signed passing the deadline this July. Upon contacting RU-vid support, we were instructed to remove the channel from its MCN network and an error must have been made somewhere causing the disappearance of videos. We are working on having them restored. No one at DigitalRev including the Bloody Producer has ever been contacted by Kai or Lok about this issue. We regret that a small issue that could easily be fixed with one message had to be made into a controversy for video views."

I remember coming across these guys when watching FroKnowsPhotos on the Cnaon 80d back in 2016. And seeing these videos again nearly 7 years later is like a time capsule. But considering DRTV doesn't work with these guys anymore, it makes sense as to why they deleted them. But they don't realize just how much of lost media would have occurred on RU-vid, had it not been for someone in Kai's network to archive them all.

At a time when photography videos on RU-vid were becoming too focused on the specs and scientific tests, DRTV was a breath of fresh air. DRTV and Kai were the main reasons I got into street photography, and partly the reason why I gravitated towards gear suited for the genre. I go back to the original X100 and X-Pan videos from time to time, especially when I'm in some sort of a photography rut (since I love Kai's shots on those videos). It's a shame that both of those are now gone :(

I'm glad it's sorted out now. It would also have been good for DRTV to reach out before canning what has clearly become a historic series in the history of online video/RU-vid. I hope the archive is kept well. I say this without irony. The work you did together, Bloody Producer included, was pathbreaking for that era of social media and photography. From the comments here you can see it meant a lot to a lot of us here at a certain time in our lives online and in photography. We were more than a million subscribers by the end. They capture a stage in the industry, the development of the digital photography market, and in creative media, that for me, is worth remembering and looking back on.

I watched the video deletion process online. I had made a playlist of videos about Canon lenses reviews, and just when I switched between the two, one of them was no longer available, then the rest. I managed to watch a lot a few evenings before, I was very nostalgic. I know this may not be entirely appropriate to write here, but I think a big part of the success of your DRTV videos was your interaction with the city, the variety of backgrounds and activities. It was much more fun than todays equipment reviews in some deadly boring British forests. Please come back to the live environment!

And the reason why I agreed at all, although at that time I was working in my own country and in a different genre, was precisely your videos. I thought, okay, people look friendly in those old videos, I can handle it. I think you not only showed well the photographic equipment, but also the people and the city in general, so in that sense it is a big loss for society, that those videos has gone.

Maybe it is time for Kai and Lok to do some follow up to some of the series, like cheap camera pro photographer, resistance test, new tutorials. I said this, I said nothing, just keep the genuine joy you transmitted to a generation of video/photographers… 😊

how to ruin your company's image in a very sustainable way^^ you guys are definitely absolute legends and the DRTV Videos you guys did carried me through my studies as well.... The very rough and "eh, f*ck it" attitude the videos and "tests" had... exquisite! But not just the _bullshittery_ there were some genuinely teachable videos there... the entire cheap camera pro tog series... All those videos that were entertaining but had buttloads of knowledge teaching you... ugh shame... I guess all that I can do now is hope that by some unforeseen coincident the entire video catalog makes its way to the archive... Not saying lok or Kai should upload them as that would probably warrant a copyright law suit but, you know.... some higher power...

It is so unbelievable that DRTV deleted all your videos. Back then, you guys created that unique, innovative and entertaining way to review camera gear ... it was a huge inspiration for me and maybe also many others! It also was the golden days of DSLR cameras and the dawn of the mirrorless age back then. I'm happy that all your videos have survived "somehow" ... if I knew it earlier, I'd surely have downloaded some of them in full when it was still possible! And one thing is for sure: I will never ever forget that great Leica M9 video with the Moonlight Sonata in it!

DR TV peaked in the Kai and Lok era and let us not forget Alamby. I learnt loads from those videos as a beginner and many years later, I now actively operate cameras in the film industry. I owe you guys. Protog vs Cheap camera opened my eyes to not hog gear but to develop my skill. The Hasselblad Xpan( from How to Get Bigger Than Full Frame without Breaking your Bank or Arm video) was love at fist sight. Those are my favourite photos from Kai in any video ever and i'm now a proud owner of the Xpan . You lot are such a bright memory in my life! Thanks for everything

I watch you Kai, even before this project, when you've been with Redwolf Airsoft, in 2006 or 2007, to 2009, and was so happy see you geting into the photography back than, and learned a lot from all 3 of you. Seeing this news again, makes me sick. 😖

It's the same thing with other media/mediums, including works on the internet from decades ago up until now. Thank goodness archival sites like The Internet Archive still exist. But whether or not they can last for the next 40 years is up to speculation. Thank goodness people are out there just collecting and preserving stuff, when others cannot due to storage limitations.

I mean, there is _in the world_, but not so much on youtube, where 'content creators' are incentivised by the algorithm to just do gear reviews and churn and histrionic things like 'Why I will never use a telephoto lens again and why you shouldn't either' and other attention-seeking stuff. But you can still buy a photobook and have a quite moment over a coffee with it.

The channel’s content was erroneously removed as we forgot to sign RU-vid’s latest creator T&C in July, and now has to remove the channel from its MCN before signing the agreement. Sadly no one here noticed it as we no longer have a team for DRTV. You guys could have just sent us a message (you have bloody producer’s phone number don’t you Lok?), instead of making so many assumptions. But I guess a nice message doesn’t get you view 😏

I stopped watching DRTV when Kai and Lok stopped making videos for them. Watching Kai wandering around HK instilled in me a strong desire to go there myself one day, as its the kind of place that one could shoot all day, every day and keep on finding worthwhile locations and situations to photograph. It inspired me to get more interested in photography and the art behind making a good photograph. You both need to go back and start the series up again! And its funny that the first video featured is a 550D, because it was a DRTV review that made me purchase that very model, which I still use and love.

Such a strange coincidence... 2 Hours ago I was listening to the old DRTV intro music while editing some street photography I'd taken around London today thinking about the good ol' days. Crazy to think that Ive been watching your guys´ content for so long. My mom helped me buy my first Nikon D3100 back in 2010 or 2011 I forget, but I was a in 10th grade after saving all my lunch money, it was the most expensive thing I’d ever gotten, I had just turned 16 years old. I watched your videos every day religiously, I became fascinated with photography and have been a professional for 10 years now. I would ditch school to go practice shooting with my little camera lol, I learned from you guys how durable these tools are and I beat my D3100 to death shooting Punk rock and heavy metal shows lol, then I got the chance to tour with multiple rock bands because of my photography right after I managed to graduate high school, did it for a couple years and traveled non stop, using my 5D mark II and my 1D mark iii that I got after seeing your reviews about them, after I bricked my d3100. I always stopped my day for a bit when I saw you guys upload any gear review even when on the road traveling. I specifically remember that classic Leica M3 review by Kai, it was my introduction to Leica and was so happy when I got my own a couple years back, it was like hitting a little milestone in my career for me. Now I’m an annoying Leica head for work and personal use but I don’t baby my equipment thanks to you guys 😂 you both made it fun to learn about cameras/photography, even if 90 percent of the cameras/lenses you showed off I wouldn’t buy. the protragrapher vids were top tier, learned so much. Im now 28 and turn 29 at the start of the new year and run my own photo studio and agency, mostly shoot fashion and commercial stuff these days but I still get excited to see you both post haha. It’s def been a journey. You guys have def played such a huge role in my career thus far which is wild to think. I visited my mom the other day and she even brought it up that I’ve been watching you guys forever since I pulled up a new video on my phone lol. Thank you guys for always being so chill 🤘🏽

I miss the vibe of DigitalRev videos a lot, just something about walking around Hong Kong combined with the background music always made it feel like I was there even though I've never been to Hong Kong. I'm planning a trip to HK next year, hoping to visit some of the iconic DRTV spots and take loads of photos! The channel that you guys built has fueled my and millions of other peoples' love for the hobby, I'm sure. If anyone reading this knows some of the places the team frequented, I'd appreciate a quick reply - would really help my research. Thank you!
