I've said it once. I'll say it again. I cannot IMAGINE making my Broadway debut as one of the most incredible musical theatre roles ever written. I have a feeling by the end of her run she'll be one of the most iconic Elphaba's we have ever seen.
First time hearing her. Her voice is beautiful. Mix of Idina, Rachel, and Jessica Vosk (she definitely took some inspiration from her) I would be honored to have her in the movie. Surprised this is her first time as Elphaba. Either way I’m glad she’s Elphaba on Broadway
I like this more modern take on Elphaba! Her voice definitely fits the character while still adding those slight modern-pop nuances. But not so much so that it completely takes away from the music or character. Nice!
You can really tell she’s heard lots of other women in the role. There’s sort of an Idina quality but she brings in the riffs that are now essentially apart of the score.
@@audreyolivia2934 now I've got to go see her. I saw the musical 4 years ago. Don't remember who was in it sadly but I definitely want to go see it again
I love how she’s acting it out and the song flows through her body! Too often you seen performances like this (off-stage, promotion, etc) and they don’t really lean entirely into the dramatics.
She is really "in the role". It's an interesting song to pick to present yourself because it's not the audience favorite. But you definitely get, how good she is with nuances.
Ok, confession time. I started crying within two seconds of watching this, because she just looks like Elphaba, and her voice is so unusual and she's perfect.
It's her technique that ruined her voice. Willemijn Verkaik played Elphaba the longest and she can still sing it just as amazing. She's only 2 years younger than Idina.
@@camara1194 really? I didn't hear that during the Best of Broadway last month though. I thought it was written for SJB who was supposed to play Elphie?
The textures and patterns of her voice are honestly just SO gorgeous and unique. When she sang the line "...so be it then" the ending of that line was just so raw! It showed the humanity of Elphaba's character! I love how she embodies the anger and frustration of Elphaba in this song while still being able to show the determination and heartbreak! Absolutely beautiful! She is going to be absolutely phenomenal in the show!! 💚💚💚
She went from scared in the first time she sang “unpunished” at the end of the first chorus to downright scary in the moment you just mentioned. Shes soooooo good
Applaud her sense of pitch. Too many Elphabas I’ve heard don’t know how to correct themselves when they’re out of tune, but Corneau does it perfectly. One might argue that the notes are high and hard to hit anyway, but other Elphabas have trouble even getting their low notes right.
i love how her interpretation of elphaba in this moment is so angry but mostly frustrated which is why this wasnt always my favorite song but shes changed that now...LOVE
She really captures the “everyone I know has done me wrong, but I’m most angry with myself” vibe that Elphaba should have in this song. Hannah really plays it like she’s finally realizing she’s the villain in everyone’s story and she’s Kinda caused that.
i'm obsessed with right at 2:47 when she says "let all oz be agreed..." something about the ways she delivers that phrase kiLLS me. and other than that she has a tone that i think is so unique for elphaba, yet it fits the character so well and i wish i could see her perform live :,(
This is one of the best Elphabas I heard. She is so raw and expressive, which is something I think this song needs more than anything given it’s context in the show
Elphaba Thropp that’s so cool! I’m doing a singing masterclass with her in October singerspace! She’s leaving wicked? I saw the photos for the new cast? Do you know when she’s leaving?
@@leahlo5133 Yes, she is actually leaving this Saturday. Sophie, David, Rosa, Jack, Chris and Melanie are also leaving the production. Andy is the only one staying on for another year to continue his role as the Wizard
Eleka nahmen nahmen Ah tum ah tum eleka nahmen Eleka nahmen nahmen Ah tum ah tum eleka nahmen Let his flesh not be torn Let his blood leave no stain Though they beat him Let him feel no pain Let his bones never break And however they try To destroy him Let him never die Let him never die Eleka nahmen nahmen Ah tum ah tum eleka nahmen Eleka nahmen nahmen Ah tum ah tum eleka... eleka... Ugh! What good is this chanting? I don't even know what I'm reading I don't even know what trick I ought to try Fiyero, where are you? Already dead or bleeding? One more disaster I can add to my generous supply? No good deed goes unpunished No act of charity goes unresented No good deed goes unpunished That's my new creed My road of good intentions Led where such roads always lead No good deed Goes unpunished Nessa Doctor Dillamond Fiyero Fiyero! One question haunts and hurts Too much, too much to mention Was I really seeking good Or just seeking attention? Is that all good deeds are When looked at with an ice-cold eye? If that's all good deeds are Maybe that's the reason why No good deed goes unpunished All helpful urges should be circumvented No good deed goes unpunished Sure, I meant well Well, look at what well-meant did All right, enough So be it, so be it then Let all Oz be agreed I'm wicked through and through Since I can not succeed Fiyero, saving you I promise no good deed Will I attempt to do again Ever again No good deed will I do again
she’s an absolute POWERHOUSE!!! the strong vocals and control gave me chills, felt like I was watching her perform in the show. The pianist too, absolutely incredible!!! Love this!!!
YALL. My mom went to her hight school. They literally did a school play together. She was in my dads class, and he and her had to partiner up on a history project, my dad said if it wasn’t for her, he literally would have failed the class. Lmao it’s awesome to see how far she has come, she was pretty good friends with my mom. I met when I was rly little one time, when my mom was hosting a bunch of people from high school.
Wow, just wow. I am so blown away by the energy she put into this. From terrified to helpless, on to concern and rounded out with confidence and hatred. I can feel the hurt that Elphaba must have felt. She is amazing.
Wicked is my favorite musical. I've seen five different Elphabas, but never Hannah. I would LOVE to see her entire performance. This song is amazing the way she does it. OH - and MAD props to the piano player! Great feeling!
SUCH amazing acting. The first Elphaba I’ve ever seen who feels like a WITCH - dark, animalistic, otherworldly, and all those other amazing qualities that makes them such an enduring archetype! Amazing!
I saw her last month she was absolutely brilliant! Her elphaba was so powerful and she is the only one who has ever made me cry with this song. She is so amazing like we Stan a good queen
Holy sh*t she's good! The best Elphaba I've heard since Idina. Someone PLEASE tell me there's a Wicked soundtrack that features her! If this video sees a spike in views, it's because I keep watching it over and over.
This is the elphaba i saw on broadway her performance was moving like i just sat there for like 2 hours crying for no reason her voice just makes me cry ... ? Like in a good way i just love it
I have no idea how I just found this but I am actually OBSESSED. I cannot tell you how many times I have watched this in the last few days. This song was already on my list from my voice teacher but now I want to ask him to bump it to next semester instead of next fall. I am absolutely blown away by her performance.
2 years ago my chorus ( Voices Boston ) got to do a workshop with her before she was famous . And one of the activities was standing in a circle and talking about what are dream lead role would be, and she said Elphaba. And now vidoes always pop of her singing on broadway in Wicked. I'm just so happy to see that she finally got her dream!
I LOVE how she delivers that line at 2:52!!!!🙌🏾 this is my favorite version of this song. The note choices were perfect and It’s chilling and so emotional and just freaking well done (singing and playing) 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Crying watching this for the 1,000th time because I just found out Hannah's last show is THREE days before I'll be in NYC to watch Wicked. The heartbreak is absolutely real.
