I’ve been wearing a watch ever since I can remember. I forget what brand it is, might be a Seiko, but I got my first Mickey Mouse watch when I was like four and wore it until I was like 10. From 10 to like 16 was the G shock phase. Now I wear basically any decent waterproof, scratch resistant chronograph. Edit I forgot the whole point of the comment. At my work I have to clock in and out @ exact 100ths of an hour. And there is no way I am touching my phone without washing my hands during the middle of my shift. So I need a watch. Also, like a necklace or bracelet it can really complete a look.

To me, a nice watch is a combination of art and beauty, engineering and practicality. The watch is a tool but it also makes a statement. That statement varies per watch, but they all seem to say the wearer has an appreciation for these throwbacks to another era. Because yeah, I could just use my phone, but I’m a watch guy.

my friends ask me the same thing and it’s funny when they ask me for the time when none of us are carrying our phones. one time he asked for the time, and i said “why?”. he said “ i have to pick up my sister from school”. so i said check your phone. he said it was dead. i said “boy do you wish you had a watch right now”. he now wears a watch. a similar thing happened to my other friend and he bought his first automatic watch. we live in a world where being on time is crucial and i don’t like relying on my phone and having to charge it every so often. plus, there’s also time’s where it’s inappropriate to pull out your phone. i go to college and some professors don’t like seeing phones out. i can’t pull out my phone during a test, during a solemn even, during a movie, while driving, etc. plus, it’s just more convenient especially for those who are always checking the time. it’s no different than people wearing an apple watch. why get an apple watch when you already have your phone?

The other nice thing about analog watches, is once you are accustomed to it, it is actually easier to read. Most people know roughly or exactly what hour of the day they are in if they are monitoring the time. So with analog, you only need to briefly glance at that minute hand for a millisecond to see what time it is. For some reason (for me anyway) this just doesn’t work the same with a digital read out

It's a drag to get my phone out of my pocket, wake up my screen, and look at the time. I don't have to charge my watch every night to get through the day, so I don't leave the house without it if I forget I don't have it on me because it is ALWAYS on me. Except for maintenance, and that's how I know what a godawful nuisance it is to have to rely on my cell phone for the time.
