From what I had read about His Holiness, he was very mechanically inclined from the very young age. He even worked on cars and drove them when he was like 12.
Not anymore to my knowledge. The strap of this Casio broke and he couldn't find a replacement. He then found a Swatch that looks almost similar and is wearing that now.

I like Prince William's choice not only for it's sentimental value to him, but also it's practicality, as an RAF search and rescue pilot a Seamaster is a suitable watch choice. Price Harry also goes for a practical watch with a Rolex Explorer II.

Much appreciated the Pocket time piece. It may never become popular again , I still rock my silver and gold Hunter style pocket watches. They look nice with a dull Chain in jeans and very sharp with a polished link on a vest . I like wrist watches as well . I find something familiar with my pocket watches I just don’t feel with a wrist watch. Can’t describe it any better than that . I’m not retired or ( that old ) at 41 , I just have always felt comfortable wearing a pocket watch with a chain sense I can remember.

I'm a fan of Prince William's choice (Omega Seamaster Professional). Granted, I'm a little biased since I have the full-size Bond watch and have been in love with it for years!
I love how the two religious leaders, the Dalai Lama and the Pope, are at the two extremes of the list, with the most precious and the less expensive watches respectively.
While not as famous as others on this list I saw an article on how the deputy prime minister of thailand is facing criticism for owning 1-2 million worth of watches including 10 pateks on his civil servant salary.
So I heard this story and modified it into a bed time story for my son. So the thai deputy prime minister started out like me with a fascination and appreciation for horologicaly significant time pieces. But as his collection grew he turned to a bad guy siphoning money from the Thai government to build his watch collection. Then he finally turned to the dark side and now he is making himself into a super villain by wearing all these high end titanium, rhodium and rose gold automatic watches. The deal is by wrapping his arms in these precious metals makes his arms super strong and indestructible. He can then plot to take over the world by throwing tanks and cars his arms are bulletproof. Then Iorn man or a super hero of your choosing can stop him and restore order to south east Asia.

i got a Subby, and a seamaster chrono when Im teaching SCUBA ( seriously, MY Subby actually goes underwater! ) a navitimer world for the hell of it and when I fly even though there's no way to use the slide-rule when actually flying an airplane! a titanium chrono avenger when im smoking things on the traeger - i like having the stop watch AND the bezel. WILL NOT TAKE THIS WATCH DIVING! rated to 1000' i wouldn't shower with this 'ling! a speedmaster moon watch i wear every july 20th and a mark ii because it's just cool! im mostly as non famous as it gets... woo hoo! oh! i got a cool tissot touch that needs to go in for a battery change, too.....

I love your excellent series of videos. The amount of research you have put in is clearly something that sets your channel apart from many others. You solicited suggestions for further videos and I have one. Why not make a series on brands that have perished and then have been resurrected or have simply perished? Some brands I can think of are Kelek, Favre-Leuba, Cyma, Schwarz-Etienne, Cortébert, Ball Watch and many others. Just a suggestion ... Suresh Strasbourg, Farnce
Buddhist monks are expected to wear watches in modern times as they are regarded as necessary. We have a Buddhist center near my home where all the monks wear the inexpensive and practical Casio Royale. Even in pre wrist watch era, pocket watches were both practical and a status symbol. Pope just needs to know time when to pray, and Casio shows time even better than Rolex, Movado, or Patek Philippe. Simple as that. True luxury is in simplicity.
Great video!!! I did not expect this video(out the ones I've seen of yours) to be my favorite. I also did not expect to have Putin's watch be my favorite.. That A.Lange & Sohne is maybe the most beautiful watch I've ever seen. I was also plessanly surprised by find out that for 5+ years I wore the same $10 Casio as Pope Francis. I've even got some really meaningful compliments on that Casio.

Prince William prefering his Seamaster is a sign that he wears his watch for sentimental reasons, rather than status. That makes him a better person in my point of view.
The Dalai Lama is a lover of neat things. So, that Patek Philippe really suits him. Very expensive but a real appreciation of watchmaking craftsmanship.
His love of mechanical watches began very early: At the age of 6 or 7, the Dalai Lama received his first watch, from none other than the U.S. American President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Rumours and assumptions grew around the watch itself and its reference, as the Dalai Lama’s headquarters in Dharamsala always rejected journalistic questions. It was known for a long time that it was a Patek Philippe pocket watch - but then in 2016, pictures appeared on the internet for the first time. They were posted on US Senator Patrick Leahy’s Facebook page, who is known by cameo appearances in some Batman films (including Batman & Robin, Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice and The Dark Knight Rises). They show the watch presented by the Senator to Dalai Lama. Eric Wind identified the watch 2016 in a Hodinkee article as a pocket watch with Ref. 658, of which only 15 were made between 1937 and 1950, a truly special gift! But the watch is probably just as special as its story, which Thomas Laird tells in his book Tibet - The History of a Country: The Dalai Lama in Conversation with Thomas Laird. Roosevelt did not hand over the gift personally. Two agents of the Office of Strategic Services (OSS), the predecessor of today’s CIA, offered the watch along with a letter from the president. Brooke Dolan and his colleague Ilay Tolstoy, who was allegedly the grandson of the famous author Leo Tolstoy, strictly followed the protocol: visitors silently handed over their presents and received a so-called ‚katha‘, a prayer shawl traditionally handed over. The two had a mission to find out more about the possibility of building a road from India to China, which was strategically important to the United States for supplying China during the war with Japan. How about a video why it is that some watches made in china are ok and other watches made in china are looked down upon and even the swiss buying Chinese parts and microbrands. And the copying by watch companies and again some are ok and some are not. This idea came to me when I was watching one of the biggest you tubers he (no names)was pushing all Chinese watch made in china (quartz) and he was acting like it was the new best thing . I may be crazy but I`m starting to think he may have his own agenda. If I`m wrong let me know because I`m starting to doubt everything about watches and how there made. thank you T
It’s like anything else, things made in China can be of super high quality, or pure crap... think about the cheap consumer goods in Walmart like cheap toys vs the high quality build of an iPhone which is manufactured in China. It all depends on the demands of the customer. When people say stuff made in china is crap, they are not actually saying that the Chinese can’t manufacture quality. This is a misnomer. Even if they think they are saying this, it’s not the case... what they are really saying (if they know it or not), is that MOST of the stuff made in China is crap, and that is because companies who want very cheap products that sell for low prices to still have a profit margin, can make them there for extremely low wages. But when Apple demands tight tolerances and perfection from the hardware build quality, they get it. Also, when it comes to some who might mention a new Chinese watch model with a lot of glee, it really is based on the price and “bang for buck”. For instance, the new 1964 Dan Henry chronograph is made in China and quartz, but for $250 is gorgeous and ticks a lot of boxes that few other brands do especially at that price. The movement is Seiko regardless, and even many Seikos these days are made outside of Japan.
China can produce high quality goods. However, that is often the exception than the norm. Any company that sells Chinese-made goods inevitably has to overcome that bias. Obviously, a Swiss company selling "luxury" watches will get roasted alive for using Chinese components in their products, despite them being of high quality. Honestly, the only thing I'd like to know is if it is 100% Swiss/European or not know anything about it at all besides it qualifies as "swiss made"

Prince William only wears his Seamaster unlike his brother that alternates between his Explorer 2 and Breitling Aerospace (if I remember correctly). William has no known second watch other than that midsized Seamaster

It is simply less detached, less spoiled, less undeserved. Sporting a Casio for $50 or less makes you down to earth. Wearing an Omega Seamaster gives no such privilege.
