Ledger didn't know that Stiles was going to cry there during the poem-reading (neither did she), so his shell-shocked reaction is also genuine. This was a lightning-in-a-bottle movie.

The fact that we lost Ledger so soon, and before EVER getting another movie with him and Stiles together again, is criminal, and will forever make me sad.

I think we might be at the point where you could do it with deep fakes. You'll still need an actor with a similar build to Ledger's who can mimic his movement and acting style.

@@StarkRG You can copy (or deep fake) the looks, the movement and acting style, but it would still be a reproduction and would always be missing something, especially with someone like Heath Ledger. What we have lost can not be replaced with a reproduction or copy.

I was 14 when this came out. I can't tell you how many time i've seen it and listened to the soundtrack. Fun fact, Joseph Gordon Levitt said in an interview last year that he really didn't want to do this movie because he considered himself to be a serious actor and felt a romantic teen comedy was beneath him. His agent convinced him to do it and he had a blast.

@@toecutterjenkins Nica got it, I forgot about The Sure Thing. One Crazy Summer came after Better Off Dead, which was Cusack's second starring role. One Crazy Summer feels like it should be earlier, the script seems, um, younger? I don't know the story of Cusack and Steve Holland, but I heard they had a falling out after Better Off Dead, something to do with Cusack not liking how the character came across. Ok, pulled this from the trivia for One Crazy Summer - "According to Savage Steve Holland, he and John Cusack did not get along during filming. Cusack was disappointed with their previous collaboration, Better Off Dead... (1985) and was angry with Holland. According to Holland, Cusack finally lightened up after that film received good reviews, but Cusack never spoke to Holland again." I feel like that might be dated - I thought they reconciled.

I admit, I am not a huge fan of high school movies. Yet this one and 'Pump up the Volume' are the two exceptions and accompanied me through my teenage years

Pump Up The Volume needs to be reacted to by anyone. Also Heathers both have Christian Slater. Side note - both are high school movies.

Great reaction as usual. One of the most sharply written teen comedies around, and just a lot of fun. My wife still cracks me up by randomly wondering aloud if you can ever just be whelmed.

I don’t think I was in high school yet but this was a big movie for teenagers at the time. It was the first movie I saw Heath Ledger and Julia Styles in. Heath Ledger was in an action TV show called Roar before this. Julia Styles gives a great performance in one of the seasons of Dexter.

I love that you have a bit of insight on a bit of everything but don't over do it, I've seen other rather disecting movies in stead of just enjoying themselves and share a bit of what they notice while watching, kudos for that perfect balance! Oh, and we all love that "I looovee youuuu baby" musical scene with the band, it was so out of character that it took us by surprise and won our hearts for sure

I loooooved this movie as a teenager. I was a junior in high school when it came out and I rented the VHS from our local Movie Gallery countless times before my best friend finally bought me a copy of it. I'm pretty sure I could still recite most of it, and I might even have the soundtrack CD around here somewhere. It also cemented my early love of Heath Ledger, may he rest in peace. I love the dialogue, the cast, the characters, the story, the humor, the touching moments, and although a few things don't hold up 20+ years later, for the most part this movie is still one I really really love. Thanks for your reaction!

That school, Stadium High School, is in Tacoma, Wash., which is about 45 minutes south of Seattle. My high school had to have our home football games there because we didn't have a field. I remember when this movie was being filmed here and it was kind of a big deal since there has only been a few films shot in Tacoma ("Three Fugitives", "Hand That Rocks the Cradle", "Sweet Revenge" just to name a few).

This movie happens to be my eldest sister's favourite movie (or at least one of her favourites). It's the movie that made Heath Ledger her big celebrity crush/hall pass (I guess she'll need to rethink that hall pass thing now). I was working at a movie theatre when it came out and got to see it for free. I really liked it and couldn't understand how Siskel & Ebert could give it 2 thumbs down. The theatre had a huge banner on the wall advertising the film. When it was time to take it down I rolled it up and took it home. That year I gave it to my sister for Christmas. I didn't even know that she loved the movie, I just thought that it would be a cool decoration for the family's rec room. She loved it, and to my knowledge she and her husband still keep it on their rec room wall (not 100% sure as I haven't been able to visit her for a long time, and they've moved a couple of times since the last time I visited).

Being more of a "theatre" nerd, I love watching your reactions because you point out things in filmmaking that I see, but I never realized. Of course, I recognized all parallels to Taming of the Shrew, and the other references to Shakespeare's works, but a lot of what you pointed out I missed. I have to go back and re-watch this, keeping in mind the points you made!😁

This was a movie I saw in theaters when it came out and has been a favorite ever since. Heath's singing scene gives me heartswelling smiles every single time! ♥Love the soundtrack, love that high school location, and the comedy was spot on. I loved the father! And Ms Perky got a huge laugh out loud moment from my mom during a rewatch at home that I'll never forget LOL, we had to rewind it twice because she kept laughing too loud over "aren't we the optimist"🤣
