Hello StuntPegg, I've been following your channel for quite some time now, and I must say it's fantastic, as I am a passionate person when it comes to football, English, and football in general. When it comes to women's football, it has been a constant struggle, but in recent years, sufficient value has been given to women practicing this sport. In Colombia, women's football has been professional since 2017 with the establishment of the Women's Professional Football League, where we have achieved more accomplishments than in men's football. The same goes for the national team. Last year, in the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup, the Colombian team made it to the final against Spain, a football powerhouse. I hope you can explore the world of football from this corner of the planet. Greetings from Colombia. I hope you can continue making these types of videos that contribute not only to women's football but also to society.
As an Hispanic, my first experience was watching the 1999 WWC. The lack of Spanish-language countries was not lost on me... Hispanic cultures are not kind to women.
If you want to compare the men's and women's teams you should first get them to play each other. You will then see just how 'accomplished' the women are...
@@xenomorph6961 not sure you're getting it. The women's game was banned for 50 years! Why? Because it was more popular than the men's game at that time drawing crowds of 50,000 and more in the 1920s. During this season the Arsenal Womens average attendance is higher than that of the Premier League. Is that not accomplishment? If you're intent on reducing the comparison of the sport to simply "who's a better baller" it is risky to presume the men's team would win so emphatically, even with 50 years of growth as a head start.
Here in the US, women's football has had the benefit of our title 9 that supports girls' school sport at the youth level. There is still a lot to do in terms of improving the conditions of the game as well as changing some of the animosity towards women's sport. Definitely looking forward to the WWC this year!!
I love seeing the growth of the women's game! I was a kid when the first Women's World Cup was played in the US, and I was obessed with the game then, and I am still as obessed now.
You keep repeating that women's football used to be 'banned' 🙄. In what way ? Was there a law against it, which would compel a police officer to run across the pitch, snatch the ball and slap handcuffs on the players ? The FA could refuse to supply a registered referee of course, but what else could they do to stop it ?
What a great game to broadcast the quality and immense growth in the women's game and what a great comeback win for Barca! Gotta say it's been a real privilege to see how much the game has grown over the years (I'll admit I was a little late to the party, my first tournament was the World Cup in 2015). The incredible potential for it to grow even more is super exciting and I hope there is a continued press for investment especially from the major footballing organisations. I can't wait to see our Lionesses (The Proud European Champions I have to add), back in action at this years World Cup next month.
We got an MLS team here in Austin a couple years ago and it's popularity has encouraged a couple semi-pro women's teams. One started last week, Austin Rise, first home game is Sunday! We were also fortunate to see the USWNT play Ireland a couple months ago. It was awesome.
You should check out the parade the ladies got in Chicago for winning the league. Stunning! Just shows how popluar and invested people are women's football.
my club (corinthians) is probably one of the biggest forces in South American women football. we regularly sell out big games at our stadium (48k), we are 3x libertadores winners and hopefully going for the 4th
And yet my team Palmeiras was ranked higher than Corinthians. Even in women's football you guys can't match us any longer! Sorry mate, couldn't miss the opportunity to poke some fun. My mom's a Corinthians supporter as well. Corinthians rival, SPFC inimigo!
Like women’s football but tbh it has only really grown because of heavy investment from the Clubs, Premier League, FIFA and the Media Being realistic there is never going to be a day when it’s on equal footing with the Men’s game I’d like to see a day soon when it’s able to exist on its own merit
Nieve, we are hosting the Women's WC here in Oz this July. I have never watched the women's game before (it hasn't really appealed to me) but I'll give it a red-hot go during this WC.
Women’s football deserves to be more reconigized when I was covering the local matches at my community college this past year. Each time I had my radio show I always shouted out the women’s football team and also was able to do color commentary for them as well and the team ended up winning the championship. Love support women’s football it’s super fun to watch
Why does it "deserve" to be more recognised? That's ridiculous. Nobody or nothing "deserves" to be successful unless it genuinely is. People are not being deliberately sexist about women's football. The fact of the matter is it's simply light years behind the men's game in almost every factor. It's almost a different sport so it's got to start at the bottom and convince more and more people that it's worth watching. If more of you women got out there and genuinely followed it like men follow THEIR teams (religiously in Europe and South America) then you'll get the recognition you deserve. Until then this woke rubbish from FIFA and EUFA of trying to pay equal prize money will only backfire on the women's game, believe me.
@@cyberdonblue4413 It's typical of feminism to just request something being given to them based on their gender alone. As if these men who are best at what they do didn't work hard to get there. Not to mention the obvious fact that due to biological differences, men's game will always be much more intense.
@@DM-rc4yuyou might not like it but the fact of life is the women’s game has been held down and even illegal for years, that’s why we fight and why feminism must continue its battle
Its actually impossible by law to ban women playing football. What happened is the Football association refused to allow women to use their facilities and grounds.
Women's football banned. You just could not make it up. Why? and who banned it. Men i bet. As a dad with a girl I find it AWFUL to think girls were banned from this sort of thing, Shame on those people. Women's football is great and more power to them.
I will always get goosebumps watching major Women's football finals and hearing that the chants are dominantly sang by female voices. Of course I want everyone to be a fan and support women's sports. But there is just an amazing environment created when you see lil girls come with their teammates and friends and see for the first time that there are women playing professionally on the pitch that are being surrounded and backed by thousands of other women in the stands. I'm American and I remember as a lil girl watching Brandi Chastain's iconic 1999 world cup goal celebration and having my friends and I recreating the moment in practice often, dreaming of a day where we could do the same. That moment inspired us so much (and still does tbh), so to see the sport grow so much and have girls get to see so much more representation just makes me so excited for the sport.
Absolutely criminal that it was banned, I was lucky enough to watch England Women win the Euros at Wembley last year, you dont see the women diving and screaming when someone goes near them
No, but you do see the reigning world champions celebrate after EVERY SINGLE GOAL Like the won an Olympic medal after beating first timers Thailand, 13-0. Embarrassing.
The biggest surprise for me in this video is the number of Wolfsburg fans in attendance. They struggle to attract fans to their men's team at home, how do they draw a crowd to a game in Eindhoven? 😅
The idiocy of the American women's league knows no bounds. The quality of the women's game in the US has been remarkably high for decades now, but the primary women's league has made it a rule that they cannot, CANNOT, share the same name as their affiliated men's team, if they have one. Barca, Wolfsberg, and Chelsea for example have all built off the name recognition and money of their affiliated men's team and are large clubs in the women's game now as a result. Just insanity.
Plus with the same identity and colour it allows fans to associate more between the men's and women's. There's a sense of egoism amongst them, and Europe is going to demolish America's decades of dominance in a few years because of that
another great video. the storyline, interactions, music were all perfect - as usual. Hope just eat (grub hub in the US) will support a trip to the world cup.
Women's fitba was not banned in the UK, ever. The FA would not allow clubs to have women play on their grounds, but since when did the FA make UK laws? Never. Women could play anywhere else they pleased in the UK. So no ban. Ever. Why wait for FIFA or UEFA? If women's football is worth anything, then start afresh and make women's organizations and show the men how it's done. The women players surely don't need the men to piggyback off, do they?
There is no saving the tv ratings though. There is so little interest the value is horrendous. Spain and italy pretty much air the matches for free. Women need to increase the athleticism in their ranks and increase the intensity. Lower leagues in Men''s football get much higher value on the TV rights than champions league women matches. I think its pretty obvious the sport on women side needs to increase quality.
It's a shame women's football doesn't get as much acknowledgement as men's. Fotmob only shows scores from the top women's leagues while they go down in to the National League and further for men's.
@@stuntpeggnieve you're always welcome to attend our A-League games as well if you're here during the season, The Cove of Sydney FC would always welcome some exposure !
Absolutely love Vivianne Miedema! She's a fantastic player and a phenomenal representative for the sport. Gutted that Arsenal had so many injuries this season. They were really making a run at the Champions League trophy this year. Kudos to Wolfsburg for their performance, and congratulations to Barcelona on their victory. On to next season!
@@SirHargreevesThat’s why there’s no atmosphere in the premier league. If I go watch bath city with money i can find in my sofa i get a much better viewing than those toffs spending a small fortune to go watch teams from places i’ve never been
I hope so Peter, on top of the football and brilliant country, I’ve actually got family in Adelaide and Sydney who I’ve never met, and would love to see.
Don't be so humble, Nieve. All those thousands of fans were really there to see you! What a final it was, the atmosphere must've been incredible in Eindhoven. Keep up your great work, especially your coverage of the Women's game. 👏
In Italy womens football, had an increase in visibility, after the world cup in 2019, and at the start of the 22-23 season Serie A became a pro league!
Portsmouth Women FC have just become semi-pro this week. It's great to see the women's game grow in popularity. I'm looking forward to the World Cup this summer and I'll be watching with my sons just like we did the Euros.
It is also not as interesting to watch as the under 16s or 18s, that used to get lots of limelight at clubs, in the FA youth cup for example, yet somehow, a slower, less dynamic women's game, seems to get all the fanfare and centre stage. I wonder how that makes the youth men's feel ? How it might affect their future ?
This last season was the first I've had a season ticket for Forest's women's team as well as the mens. I was rewarded with a league and cup double to go with Prem survival. I look forward to the day I go to see both at the City Ground, both matter to me just as much, and it's thought weird you only support one
I've tried to like womens footy but sorry its largely dire and the goalkeeping is embarrassing. Not for me sorry. I also resent the fact it constantly gets promoted without having earnt that promotion.
They're trying so hard to artificially inflate it, and it just isn't working at the levels they want it to. So much so, that they're now trying to handicap the men's game by pulling revenue and re-allocating it to the women's game. So far, it's just been a wash, but I guess they're willing to light the money on fire if it means "muh equality".
imagine the barcelona fans if the mens tesm were in the UCL final, they would go mad 8 years without the trophy, but congrats to the ladies keeping the europe trophies alive for the club
Tú no te preocupes si el equipo masculino no gana champions. Nosotros sabemos esperar, algún día nuevamente tendremos los jugadores de casa, los que verdaderamente hicieron grande al Barza.
Barca women are my favourite foreign side. Always loved putellas for years. Last year was amazing. However in England I follow the arsenal women after watching them face Everton a decade and half ago
Womens Football is so fun to watch. It really is a shame that FIFA and UEFA don't support them more. Here in Germany it isn't even safe to say if the World Cup this year will be broadcasted on TV cause FIFA demands insanely much money (as usually), which the Public Broadcasting Service isn't willing to pay
it can be fun but it will never be equal to men because it's too slow and it lacks pace, power and phisicality that's why almost nobody watches it and as result it generates no money and to be honest nothing they can do it's natural thing men are stronger that's why they will never reach these levels
You sorta have it the wrong way round, due to criticism FIFA are trying to equalise the prize money between the men's and women's world cup by 2027 (in fact they have promised to do so iirc) which means they need to generate more money.. This world cup they are trying to push it to $152m or so, men's last year was $440m, so they will need a big increase for 2027. The only way they can really do that is to increase sponsorships and of course... ask for loads more money from broadcasters. As a result broadcasters are saying 'no thanks' as it does not reflect value for money and so they will struggle to even meet the $152m this year, let alone get anywhere near $440m in 2027 (probably more as the next men's world cup will likely exceed $440m) Basically, this big push for 'equal pay' is what is causing the problems, and entirely foreseeable of course.
@@abdelrahmanlfc8280 "almost nobody watches it and as a result it generates no money"? What an ignorant thing to say. Were all those people that filled Wembley and Camp Nou nobodies in your eyes? Media companies keep paying more and more for broadcasting rights not because they have to millions spare, but because people want to watch it and they make money from showing it. So far, a million nobodies have bought tickets for the next women's World Cup in Australia/New Zealand. Men being stronger doesn't necessarily make for a better spectacle, there are plenty of boring men's games, games where they drop like they're shot from the breeze created by an opposition player and writhe on the ground for a minute, while the replay shows no contact at all. Then there's the agro towards officials and from spectators plus the ridiculous amount required for a ticket to watch that rubbish.
If you ever get the opportunity to take your show to the US, I’d very highly recommend traveling to Portland, OR (BA has a direct flight 😉) to check out the Timbers and Thorns FC. That’d be the men’s and women’s teams respectively. They share Providence Park which has some unique architecture, being crammed into city blocks and all. Light rail is out front and connects directly to the airport. Massive MASSIVE turnout and support for both teams.
An excellent video as always. I'd also like to mention that the referee was from Wales - the nearest we get to having someone in a Euro final these days!
Womens football are awesome. I remember when first time i saw womens game in 1994 and that was something new. But i really like it. Congeats for Barcelona. This is a really strong team. I feel sorry about Wolfsburg because i am big fan of Ewa Pajor. She is absolutely amazing. I hope she can won Champions League in the next time.
The women's game is so much fun to watch! Everyone really gets into it, and even for a second year team we've got a thriving supporters section. If you ever make it out to San Diego during the NWSL season my friend and I have a spare season ticket you're welcome to use.
Fantastic Vlog Nieve. Colleague of mine plays, damaged her metatarsal. Made her Google "Sasquatch" as per her Foot Protection at work. Still pissed off Doncaster Belles got ripped off, knew some of those Ladies too...
Just last weekend the final of the mexican professional women's league was held at Azteca Stadium with 55K people in the audience, more than the people who attended the male's final (two weeks ago). Granted, the stadium of the male's final has less capacity and if it were bigger it would have had much more people there, but still, 55 thousand fans is quite impressive, even for a male team. And by the way, my team, Club América, won.
I just found your channel a week ago and I have never seen an editing style that comes close to what you‘re showing on here! Loved the Bundesliga Promotion video and this one too! It‘s way too much fun :D
I'm such a proud supporter of women's football and to see it take off in the amount of time I've lived here has been so great, ah my heart feels full ❤ Viv is just so cool, I love her so much ❤ Being in the stadium whiles seeing both my countries play against each other during the Euro's was quite surreal and the atmosphere was so brilliant! The atmosphere at the Champions League match looked so brilliant as well, so happy you could be there! Was watching the match on RU-vid whiles I had the men's FA Cup match on telly but also got updates from the group that I'm a member of, we are so very excited for the World Cup that we're already swapping digital Panini stickers 😅
Why does Viv Miedema sound Scottish to me!?? Aside from that, I love the coverage of the women's game. I've been a Sheff Utd Womens season ticket holder this year, after watching the Euros semi final at Bramall Lane. The only reason I'm not renewing it is because I've not been able to go to half the games, but I'll still go to as many as I can, and maybe even a few of the men's PL fixtures!
