This series, originally broadcast on HBO, tells the story of Easy Company, 506th Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division, U.S. Army. Based on interviews with survivors of Easy Company, as well as soldiers' journals and letters, this 10-part series chronicles the experiences of these young men who knew extraordinary bravery and extraordinary fear. Based on the book Band of Brothers written by Stephen Ambrose.
Hosted by Roger Bennett, HBO’s Official Band of Brothers Podcast retraces Easy Company’s journey from Normandy to the Eagle’s Nest, episode by episode, with insight from its biggest stars, including Tom Hanks, Damian Lewis, Ron Livingston and Donnie Wahlberg.

Frist off, I wish I would have taken this series with a much higher level of understanding. Not understanding that these are just words on paper for actors is very lacking in my reaction to this series. I did watch the full length episodes some things just get edited out. I'm sorry if you find my reaction disrespectful. I have nothing but respect for the actual men who are heroes. Obviously I didn't really understand that these actors are playing out the role of very specific actual people in the world and not just playing out a story written for them. My appologies. Thank you all for the support. The last surviving member of the WW2 complement of Easy Company was Bradford C. Freeman (born 1924), who was a mortarman (I believe) and who attained the rank of Private, First Class. He died on July 3, 2022, at the age of 97.And with that, the entire WW2 complement of Easy Company, 2nd Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division, has passed into history. Gentlemen, and all the other soldiers you represented - thank you. Thank you for your service. Thank you for sharing your stories with us.

General Taylor was incredibly impressed that Winters was not given command until D-Day itself. That he was ready, and prepared to take over when necessary and damn good at the job. Gen Taylor definitely did not want to lose one of his best officers.

Unfortunately, they have all passed. RIP HEROES.

Two more items that are excellent are: the documentary titled “We Stand Alone Together” which gives a history of the 101st and of the actual men, plus showing them having reunions. Also Ron Livingston (Nixon) made a “video diary” of the 2 week boot camp training session which most of the cast had. Recommended!

From D-DAY all the way to Hitler's Eagle's Nest, there was nothing Easy about it. I never want things I love to end, but you want the pain to end for these Men, and the peace to begin. The German Field Marshall's speech is actually what ties the entire concept of of the series together unexpectedly...No matter what side you were on you were suffering. I implore you to see "We Stand Alone Together" and Ron Livingston's (Nixon) Bootcamp Diary. It makes you appreciate the series even more. "Were you a hero in the War Grandpa? Grandpa says no, but I served in a company of heroes" Near tears every time. Thank you so much for taking this journey. Currahee! ♠ Winters may be the best, and Nixon may be one of the most entertaining. But Spiers might be my favorite. Also see "The Fallen of World War 2" to get some perspective on the scale of this tragedy.

Definitely do episode 11, "we stand alone together." It's a documentary made by the same production team as part of the series and it's more of the interviews from the beginning of the episodes, more stories, more information. It identifies more of the men some of whom were portrayed in the series but we're not identified at the end of episode 10. It's excellent.

From the intro, it still sounds like you didn't get this wasn't just some show all the way up to the end. This is a limited series. It's not meant to have multiple seasons.

@@FordryText sucks for tone. I didn't take any kind of anger, just a correction. I get why you did, though.

Spielberg and Hanks spearheaded two more series in a similar format. “The Pacific” (2010) also 10 episodes, which focuses on Marines fighting in various Pacific islands with some scenes set in Australia. “Masters of the Air” (2024) 9 episodes focuses on a bomber group in Europe.

There are some podcasts on Y.T. I've seen a couple done by Ron Livingston, (Portrayed Nixon). He did one in particular that went into the training that the actors had to undergo in order to represent men they portrayed. As we say in Texas; y'all be safe.

James, if you haven't yet, you need to watch the follow up documentary "We Stand Alone Together."

Winters was just a Major, not a Major General as you had previously mentioned. Just one step above Captain Sobol but did receive two promotions where Sobol stayed the same rank

By the end of the war Sobel was a Captain (O-3) and Winters was a Major (O-4). Winters served from 1941-1946 which is not have enough time to reach Major General (O-8).

Well, since they have all died, how they stay in-touch now is a mystery. When they were alive, it was anything but roundabout.

For my part, I find it interesting that you treated this as a work of historical fiction. First...because _it is_ especially Episode 9, though it is closely based on the biographies of actual soldiers. Second, because it shows how people treat it when they know it's "based on true stories" change their expectations.
