Loved your review. When I saw it I enjoyed that the audience experienced Danvers' self-discovery along with her. It made the character's frustration relatable. Personal note: I was an extra for the underground tunnel scene that was filmed at the Shaver Lake Edison hydroelectric dam just North-East of Fresno, CA. I gained a TON of respect for people who work on these movies. We extras had to be on set by 5 am for wardrobe and the film crew were already there working. Shooting and post-shooting digital image capture finished around 5 pm, and the film crew were still hard at work wrapping things up. They work HARD.

The script he was reading was from Mallrats, a '95 Kevin Smith movie. To be fair, any good fighter will tell you that you do need to learn how to control your emotions in a fight because fighting emotionally can lead you to make erratic mistakes and lose focus on your opponent & just throw random punches and kicks. It has nothing to do with gender, but you need to remain calm so you can be strategic. Remember what Tony told Peter that if you're nothing without the suit, then you shouldn't have it. Most of us do not have the luxury of shooting energy beams from our hands, but we need to fight smart. There is a constant debate among comic book fans on who is the strongest Avenger or superhero. Captain Marvel is usually listed among the very top, along with Scarlet Witch, Vision, and Thor. The problem, though, with teamup movies is usually they need to be de-powered and made less powerful than they are OR sideline them and distract them with something else to do in order to give other heroes equal enough time on-screen. Otherwise, 1 of them could easily overpower everyone else and the movie is over in 10 minutes, LOL! I enjoyed this movie a lot and think it is underrated, despite some of the logic flaws I think it does have. Keep in mind, this movie takes place long before Fury ever met Tony Stark. This was his first encounter with aliens. I do not know if you realized it or not, but Fury tells Danvers he cannot eat sandwiches cut diagonally in half, but in Age of Ultron, he cuts a sandwich diagonally in half and eats it. That cannot be just a coincidence or a mistake, right? Also, he mentions a mission to Budapest to Danvers as well. In the first Avengers movie, Black Widow and Hawkeye briefly mention to each other their mission to Budapest. Part of the whole point of this movie is to have us follow along from the perspective of Danvers as she herself discovers the truth. So, we're not supposed to know everything at the start of the movie. It ruins the whole fun of finding out ourselves. In my opinion, the more you know and can predict what will happen in the first 10 minutes of a film, the worse the movie is. It is often a conundrum on how to keep people guessing, but not go too far as to leave fans too confused that it leaves fans annoyed they cannot follow it easily enough. Usually, if you just let a movie play out as if, things will eventually make sense. But that is also why I believe most movies need to be seen at least twice to catch everything and appreciate the story.
@sirmoonslosthismind
@sirmoonslosthismind 2 года назад
in _captain marvel_ fury specifically says he can't eat *toast* cut diagonally. it's a really odd line, but presumably it's odd because the truth is odd, and fury has no problem with diagonally cut untoasted bread. of course, it's also possible that he's simply gotten over it. fury being a skrull in _age of ultron_ is seemingly the least likely explanation.

1:12:50 Things not being what they appear to be is a big theme of this film. A lot of the characters change their roles in the film. The Kree-Skrull war isn't what you thought it was. Marvel really knows how to cast their movies and shows, but they also know how to craft characters and scripts in ways that make the characters not only accessible but also relateable. The scene where "Vers" is in the backyard trying to cope with the fact that the Kree have been lying to her for 6 years in order to control her, and she's only just finding out about who she had been, and that POWERFULLY DELIVERED monologue from Lashana Lynch as Monica Rambeau relaying to her the important stuff. It's like "You don't know who you are, Im gonna tell you who you are and what you mean to me as a friend, loved one, someone who believed in me when no one else did." And the hug at the end .... ooof! Never fails to get me misty-eyed. How weird is it that most of the best moments in any Marvel film aren't really the fights, the visual spectacle, or the powers of the heroes, its really the dialogue scenes between two or more characters that are usually the most poignant, meaningful, and well-written. It's drama, and I love it!

I REALLY like the chemistry that develops between Carol and Fury. I understand that it extends to real life. And in that scene where she offers to arm-wrestle for the tesseract, I always wonder who I would be arm-wrestling. Captain Mar-vell? She would rip my arm off. Literally. Carol Danvers? Well, I would get to keep my arm, but I would probably lose badly. Brie Larsen? I suspect she would win too, but at least I would have a chance.

I'm a day late to the party, so someone else may have already explained this, but as I understand it, the cameo for Captain Marvel was the last one Stan Lee was alive to film. As for the script, it's for Mallrats, a movie that came out in the 90s, in which Stan has a cameo playing himself. The line you hear him repeating is from his *actual part* in the film. While I don't know that it's ever been confirmed/addressed by the Captain Marvel filmmakers, my personal theory is that we're meant to see this as *the real Stan Lee* rehearsing in preparation to shoot that very cameo. [perhaps he was even en route to the actual shoot during their meet]

It's the thing that gets her in trouble, but it's also the thing that makes her great. And those two sides warring against each other is what makes her her."
@IceCenders

Also she used to be a human soldier. Nobody bats an eye when male (ex-)soldiers like the Equalizer act all cool, collected, only showing subtle facial expressions. God forbid a woman ever acted collected and quietly self-assured though. In my opinion she does not act unemotional at any point of the movie. People who think that just are bad at reading subtle emotions (or more likely just have a bias against women being subtle and emotionally complex).

Let me try to explain the original Kree-Skrull metaphor from the comic books. During the Cold War, a lot of Americans didn't understand why other nations-including our allies-were unhappy with some of the things America did during the Cold War. The Kree-Skrull conflict is meant to make those complaints more understandable to Americans. The Kree and the Skrull use entire planets as pawns in their conflict in the same way that America and the Soviet Union used entire nations as pawns in our conflict during the Cold War. Occasionally, Earth becomes a place of strategic import in the Kree-Skrull conflict, and Earth is almost helpless to do much about whatever the Kree or the Skrulls decide to get up to.

It's coz Captain Marvel doesn't fit into the male gaze lol. She's good at everything, and for them women shouldn't be able to do that. They can't comprehend the fact that it's possible for a women to have that nonchalant, more contained emotion, sarcastic and effortless personality and be powerful at the same time. A women can only be super powerful for them if there's a major drawback, let's say for example Black widow, she identically has Danver's sarcastic and effortless personality but she's not OP so its ok. The same case with Wanda, she is on the other hand is OP, but she has to have a major flaw-in which she can't control her emotions.
@FluffyJackie
@FluffyJackie 2 года назад
@@jbonceu2457 I doubt that. I mean sure I've experienced people like that, but I think that's a rather loud minority. At least I hope so. That there's a drawback to Wanda being OP has nothing to do with her sex. That's a storytelling element that all super powerfull characters share. If a character is so OP that literally nothing can harm them (like Superman for example) there have to be other stakes or issues to them, otherwise they'd just be boring.

Your reaction was I believe the right one, to have. People can disagree with the choice, that is fair, but I think the creative team wanted to put the audience in the head of the lead character and show you how confused she was by all that was going on. Just my opinion, but it seemed the more information "Vers" gained the calmer and less hectic the film got. So, by the time she gets to Carol Danvers, she is cracking jokes and back to her "pain in the ass" psyche that Monique Rambo talked about. I could be wrong, I just really, really liked this movie and am still waiting on reasons outside of her being a girl and saying it would ne nice to have more girls on the press tours, because maybe she would be asked more questions than about her diet, lack of skin in the costume, how her butt looked and who would the character date.

I had no major issues with the film, except for it being nothing special and kinda meh to an extent... In my opinion, Carol is overshadowed by Fury and maybe the lead Skrull... And Goose lol. She could have easily been a supporting character in the movie if she wasn't in it so much compared to the others. Of all the MCU movies, I think this was the one time they didn't nail the character... That or they nailed the character and the character just wasn't particularly good lol. Most people probably appreciate Carol mostly for giving Rogue her super strength and power of flight >_

It doesn't deserve to be hated maybe, but I'd feel weird calling it underrated... I dunno... Carol just doesn't grab me as a character... She's like a side character in her own movie almost... Not that it helps that Sam L. Jackson is so good and steals the show all the time lol. But then maybe I wouldn't have liked the film as much if he didn't... I suppose maybe I enjoy it a bit more than the first two Thor movies... I'm not sure... It's weird because I kinda like it better overall, but I enjoy the characters more in the others and it kinda carries them higher... I think there's potential for Brie Larson's Carol in future, but yeah... I kinda got her motivations, but I had to kinda reverse engineer them from what they seemed to be trying to do at the climax or something... It's weird... In my opinion, the movie didn't do it very successfully... I wasn't ever confused, but neither did it hit impactfully... Hopefully that makes sense...

I really enjoyed this movie. But then again, I'm not one of those people who catches a whiff of public narrative and has to concede to the tide of what the masses' tell me I should think or feel. Unfortunately I think a lot of critique of this movie, specifically from women, is tied up in that. A PickMe-esque type of agreeability signaling to the dudebro toxic fandom of the internet. Most of us on the jury of film reactions have Already been influenced by forces outside of the courtroom and our verdict is kinda tainted. It's nice to see people who can tune that out.

In case you didn't notice already, Marvel makes it obvious when a child is a future superhero. I hope you like little Monica here. Flerken explanation: they are like biological TARDISes. They're bigger on the inside than the outside. The inside is full of universes, tentacles, and teeth, which are all part of an incredibly complex digestive system. They are feared not just because they can kill almost instantly, but also because they reproduce fairly quickly. Goose's gender has been misidentified.

The Supreme Intelligence is not an AI. It's much more creepy than that. It is a gestalt mind made up of the most intelligent Kree. As individuals die, new Kree are "plugged in." Thus, it is a singular intelligence with a lifespan many times that of a normal Kree. The Kree used to be an egalitarian society with artists and scientists, but the moment the Supreme Intelligence took over, he turned all of Kree civilization into a giant military and started conquering everything out could. There are Kree who would like to go back to the old ways, but no rebellion or uprising is ever successful because the Supreme Intelligence is too smart. The funny thing is, Fury can tell aliens that he lost his eye to a Flerken, and they will be impressed.

I'd say captain marvel is second behind infinity war Thor. Thor in his prime (end of infinity war) literally one shotted Thanos with the infinity gauntlet, he's on a whole other level compared to everyone else including captain marvel, he'd be able to do what captain marvel did to the Krees but even easier if anything, since he has access to the briforst now via storm breaker, and as seen in the first Thor movies, the brifrost can destroy entire planets with ease, like when Loki used it to destroy the frost giant's home. Thor obviously holds back a lot since he was fighting with allies around him and he mainly uses the bifrost for travel since heroes like him don't usually go around destroying planets lol.

I was so annoyed after seeing this in the theater. It was such a wasted opportunity to have a great female epic superhero. It was so poorly handled. Poorly cast lead for sure. The cat was cute tho.

Great Job 👍 I have to say. I watch a lot of reaction videos. It's just a great way to re-watch my favorite movies and see them through someone else's eyes. Of all the react channels, you 2 are one of my favorites (top 2 of 40). Seriously. There is a genuine and "unspoiled" nature to your reactions. A LOT of the other RU-vid reactors try to fake this. But you too have a real thing going. PLEASE DON'T CHANGE THIS! There will be a lot of pressure from commenters, fans, and competition. But keep this very special attribute going. Again, great reactions. Really like the comments about how they portrayed Captain Marvel's character. This is actually the only strong female lead movie where the strong female lead was not characterized by her unbelievable strong sexuality (or fake empowerment as I like to say). In fact, it's the only one that has dared to not even include a hint of a "love" interest. Her characterization was driven by her choices, her own will, and her identity. This is so rare! My hat goes off to Marvel for that. Sorry this was so long, and again, keep doing what you are doing

It’s meant to be confusing, you’re learning as you go - kind of like Carol with no memory. I think after so many movies with a foundation, it’s refreshing to find something new.
