Fun fact: Gru’s mom is voiced by Julie Andrews who was also in The Princess Diaries, Mary Poppins, and voiced as Fiona’s mom in the Shrek franchise.

If you were curious about Gru's accent. It's supposed to be a mix of Russian, Spanish, Romanian, and Hungarian. Steve Carell said in an interview that his accent is inspired by Bela Lugosi (A famous Hungarian-American actor known for his popular roles in 1930s horror movies, like Count Dracula) and Ricardo Montalban (A famous Mexican actor who was the grandpa in the Spy Kids movies). If that's not enough, the word "GRU" is actually an abbreviation for a federal military intelligence agency in Russia.

Fun fact: The Minions have their own language dubbed "Minionese." While it's mostly gibberish to us, there are occassional words in there taken from other real life languages like French, Spanish, or even Italian!

Such a great film. The first two Despicable Me movies were a breath of fresh air, absolutely hilarious, fun and fresh, and the film that shot Illumination to the animated studios upper rank, on the way to leapfrogging DreamWorks in the rank. It’s also no accident that Despicable Me rose to success immediately after Shrek bowed out.

You're absolutely right about the minions having a better life than the girls at the orphanage. Not only does Gru see them like family, but he literally knows them all by name. And they affectionately call him "big boss." If you pay attention, the minions actually all have very distinct personalities. It becomes much more obvious by the second movie. My favorite is Dave, the one who got too excited and shot off his rocket launcher by accident.

I'm someone who has intense dysphoria and just almost Hatred at the idea of having my own children/getting pregnant. But this movie was so cute, so impactful to me when i first sat down and seriously watched it that I did actually have moments where I thought someday I could adopt kids. Lately I've been thinking about it again, and it's crazy you posted this! Hope someday I get my shit together and can afford to have at least one child, especially an older one with little hope to be adopted at that point. Poor kids really do just go thru and never get adopted, until they're 18 and thrown out of the system.

This movie is so good, they came up with a fun idea, there's heart to the story, and the minions are the greatest side characters 🙌. The sequels are also pretty good, you should check them out!

the reason minions work in this and mater didnt in cars is that this movie is all goofy while cars story was actually kind of serious which meant mater really didnt fit with the mood. That said I think minions get a bit much when it comes down to their exclusive movie >

18:30 - I just realized something. Vector only puts the rockets away *after* the girls confirmed there were coco-nutties. I know it's probably not what the producers intended, but I think it's kinda funny in an albeit morbid way.

After seeing how few people have reacted to them, I'd like to recommend some Aardman Animation films to you. They're mostly stopmotion films, and very charming! Things like Wallace and Gromit, Chicken Run, Arthur Christmas and The Pirates are their biggest hits, but Wallace and Gromit is easily the best of the bunch :)

I'm sure the cookie robots was meant to do the welding back the wall but the timing was too early. Gru and the two Minions were meant to get out first but since the timing was off they get stuck in there. Wouldn't be exciting if it went that smoothly, would it?
