Patreon Link for UNCUT Videos: www.patreon.com/Billyishere How do you feel about the mother? How do ya feel about Flint Ryder? What is your top 3 favorite Disney animated movie?
To be honest every time I watch this I feel like I just wanna punch mother gothel she's so evil and cruel with the twisted and manipulative things she does throughout the movie. I find Flynn aka Eugene to be kinda funny but instead of a smolder I prefer a smile 😁 lol.
I couldn’t stand Mother Gothel in the movie Tangled. I thought that she was so evil and manipulative and I was so happy when she got killed off. I thought that Flynn Ryder was really funny in the movie but the smouldering did not impress me. My favorite Disney Animated movie right now are: Frozen/ Frozen 2 Coco Aladdin The Little Mermaid 🧜♀️ Beauty and the Beast Cinderella Etc.
Lion king hercules and tangled are my favourite disney films. Also if not tried already moanna is great in my top five along with mulan frozen is worth a least one watch but not a favourite of mine
I heard a sweet theory that Eugene is narratoring the movie because he's actually telling it as a bedtime story to their children: "This is the story of how I died." (little kids look scared) "Oh don't worry, it's actually a very fun story... about a girl named Rapunzel." (The kids giggle and smile because now they know it's about their mommy.) At the end Rapunzel comes in and gives the "Eugene..." 🙄😆 "And they lived happily ever after." And their parents kiss their foreheads and tuck them in.
I also like the idea that Rapunzel’s mom read stories to orphans (where Eugene heard the stories of Flynn Ryder) and then Eugene is carrying on her legacy telling their story to orphans himself
I mean she did lie to Rapunzel about the lanterns, telling her they were stars. Also, if she had lied about her birthday Rapunzel still would have wanted to leave the tower at some point, possibly to still see the towers as them appearing on a singular day is still pretty strange.
The bigger question is why she stayed in that kingdom? Why not move further away so Rapunzel wouldn't be able to see the lanterns and the palace guards wouldn't be in the area?
my dad doesnt even watch disney movies like that unless im playing them in the living room and sometimes he sits down and watches them with me. when i tell you he laughs everytime maximus is on screen 😂 hes probably his favorite character.
I grew up with a mother who was very much like mother Gothel not as bad but had some tendencies! I still live with the affects at 45yrs old! But I'm breaking the cycle with my own children play 😊
I was one of those kids (well, a teen, but still). I didn't know what gaslighting was back then, but I definitely recognized it the first time I saw the movie.
There's a little detail that most people miss, Gothel is always putting affection to Rupunzel's hair, whereas Eugene was pushing her hair out of her face and more focused on her
“How’d you meet your husband?” “He broke into my tower so I knocked him out with a frying Pan and got my chameleon to stick it’s tongue in his ear and then we went to go find the magic floating lights in the sky. Also, my hair glows when I sing!” “911 what’s your emergency?”
The smolder worked on me! A guy worked at a fast food joint in 1995 and I'd go there just about every other day to hang out with him. He worked the grill and would look out into the dining area with that smoldering face. Little did I know at the time that he had bad eye sight, but refused to wear his glasses to work, and made that face/squint to try to see how many people were waiting to order. We just had our 26 year anniversary last week!
I really like how when you're watching films like Tangled, you acknowledge the thematic undertones seriously, like the gaslighting and manipulation, whereas others might joke about it or brush it off, as these are some really important messages to bring across!
That’s what I’m saying! I know this is a year later but I recently found this channel and I absolutely love when he does point out this stuff because as you said others just joke it off
There is an animated short where Eugene and Rapunzel get married and the chameleon and the horse are in charge of the rings and just know it's chaos trying to get the rings in time for the ceremony.
Fun fact about Zachary Levi, Flynn's voice actor: Part of the reason why he accepted the role of Flynn Rider was because he hoped Tangled would be featured in a Kingdom Hearts game someday. And then the dream came true when Kingdom Hearts 3 happened!
The reason why this is called Tangled is great. Basically, after Princess and the Frog, Disney weren't happy that boys weren't watching the movies they marketed towards girls. So all they did, was change the move name from "Rapunzel" to "Tangled" and put Flynn on the poster. And boom it worked. Absolute Genius
Not to start anything, I am just very confused about this Tangled vs. Frozen thing. They are completely different stories. Why can't one be your favorite without talking bad about the other. I adore both. Those two plus Beauty and the Beast are my top 3 actually. I just really don't understand it.
For me I think frozen got so much hype and I remember thinking why didn't tangled? I do as well think tangled is better but all in all they are both good movies.
How I knew that my mother was an abusive narcissist was because she literally told me in the theater that "Mother Gothel had the right idea" and that she liked her. I relate to Rapunzel a lot.
what makes Gothel compelling is that she uses a lie with a grain of truth. Something sympathetic like "the world is scary and will harm you" which IS true... Mother Gothel is proof of that. She's the one LITERALLY harming Rapunzel.
I never thought the smolder would work. Then I saw the parade at Disney World, and Flynn smoldered at me and my friend from the float. That was the first time in my life I have ever legitimately swooned. It was a total involuntary action, and I can't believe it actually worked.
"YOU ARE NOT LEAVING THIS TOWER! *EVER!"* The way Rapunzel flinches gets me every time. Then followed by, "Great. Now *I'm* the bad guy." The entire scene hits WAY too close to home.
If you want to know in the original tales. Rapunzel wasn’t really kidnapped, but her parents gave her to the witch in exchange for the mother’s health and taking her magical plant by accident. In the original myth also Flinn was a prince who got Rapunzel pregnant and when Mother Gothel found out she abandoned Rapunzel in the woods to give birth alone and Flinn fell out of the tower landing on a rose bush and getting his eyes poked out. Rapunzel finds Flinn and uses magic powers of tears to heal him. It was a tale against teen pregnancy.
As much as I hated Mother gothen (if that's how you spell it) I still found it very savage for Pascal the chemelon to trip her with Rapunzel's hair. *Died by what she stole. Jeeze!*
In the original story, the parents were a baker and his wife. When the wife was pregnant, she had all sorts of cravings for fresh veggies. And the witch next door had a wonderful garden. So the wife asked the husband to go into the garden for some rampion (which is also called rapunzel!) and he did, and got caught by the witch. The witch said, I'll let you live, but I'll take your kid in exchange! She took the child when she was born and actually DID love her, but was still too controlling. A prince stole into the tower after hearing her singing from below, and they fell in love. She was going to run away with him, but before they could escape, the witch found out and in the end the prince ended up blind and wandered the desert for a few years. Meanwhile, Rapunzel was pregnant, and gave birth to twins. She escaped the tower with them and found the prince, and cried onto his face and his eyes were healed. The end. 🤣 (I may have skipped some stuff!)
I LOVE how the magic wasn’t in her hair, it was just HER, and so she didn’t even need to be taken advantage off or protected because people would take the hair. Rapunzel herself has the power to heal, as seen with the tears. Makes it all the more sad tho
I don't think that's it. It was her hair, otherwise cutting it would do nothing. The reason the tears worked was because of one last effort of the magic that was still in her.
SPOILERS FOR THE SERIES seriously go watch it, it's great Actually the magic *was* in her hair. When she cried, the last of the sun drop's power was used and she could no longer heal people with it.
@@starsiadraws Spoilers alert too* I don't know how to put this into words but I'll try my best to elaborate. In my opinion, I don't think it was the last power of the sun drop since she was the literal sun drop but only when the sun drop (kinda looks like the moonstone but yellow) has been pulled out to her by zhan tiri. Also the fusion of the sun drop and moon stone in the finale, you can see it. Meaning the hair wasn't the sun drop but she was, the hair was one way to show it. And to prove it, the Tangled: Before Ever After movie. She had awaken the moonstone rocks or black rocks because she was connected to it and gaining back her hair, meaning it was not her last power of her hair but she was the actual sun drop. And if you were saying it was the last magic of the sun drop's healing, maybe not, because she could still possibly heal in tears or other forms from her body and with the sun drop within her of course. For the reason she wasn't able to heal with her hair in the series is because it was not her birth hair which had a power of healing. And it was not also the last time she used the healing power because she saved Cass with it by holding onto the fused gem.
It wouldn't work, though. Only maybe for the first few years. I'm not spoiling anything jic someone who hasnt watched looks here, but yeah. She wasnt with Cass
@@naurchleor No, she wasn’t. Since Cass was adopted by the captain’s guard right after. It’s just the irony of the comment being super funny bc it’s clearly meant to be a joke but like “yes, she does in fact have other family…but she ain’t seeing them”
It's great becaus Eugene goes on a journey to learn selflessness while Rapunzel learns freedom. And they both find a place to belong. ALSO, they have a really great 2D animated movie (Tangled: Before Ever After) that kicked off an epic 3 season series that fits between Rapunzel's return to the castle and her adjustments to life as a princess and her engagement to Eugene, complete with Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi returning to their main roles and music by Alan Menken himself. It's really awesome and full of lore surrounding the Sundrop Flower, the magic of her hair, and other magic in the kingdom. And it solidifies Rapunzel and Eugene as #1 BEST Disney couple. Eugene Slander is DISALLOWED.
Just a little info for all the Gothel haters (so you can hate her even more) : She actually had a real daughter (she treated like crap), but abandoned her when she was three to "take care" of Rapunzel. The kid was found and raised by the head of the royal guard, and became Rapuzel's lady in waiting Now you can add child abandonment to Gothel's crime record :)
11:16 "She just have a whole other family." There's a 2D animated TV show in which she literally has another kid that she abandoned when she kidnapped Rapunzel so like... oof. Too close to home, my guy.
I love the "I See the Light" song. Its so freaking gorgeous. Top 3 Disney Movies 1. Tangled - I love Flynn and Rapunzel's dynamic. 2. The Princess and the Frog 3. Aladdin
As an emotionally abused child Rapunzel was my favourite movie because it shows abuse in an evil light. You calling it out as you see it is so satisfying and validating! I was legit in a bit of tears when I realized other people saw the abuse.
Originally, in the Brothers Grimm story, the mother was craving rapunzel leaves in the witch's garden. The father stole some and the witch caught him. So, she let him have the lettuce. But when he robs the witch a second time, she said she'll let him have the lettuce, but when the baby is born, he has to give up the baby. Yeah, Rapunzel's parents gave up their daughter to the witch for lettuce.
I saw a version were it was tea leaves (similar to the Disney version but not exactly no [no Flynn or anything then it just followed the og plot line])
Okay, I pulled out my copy of Grimm’s Complete Fairy’s Tales and basically, it says that the garden was known to belong to “an enchantress, who had great power and was dreaded by all the world.” The Mother saw rampion (another name for rapunzel) and she had the “greatest desire to eat some.” Her desire for it increased every day and she pined away, becoming “pale and miserable.” Her husband is concerned (obvs) and she tells him she shall die if she doesn’t get some rampion. “Sooner than let thy wife die, bring her some of the rampion thyself, let it cost thee what it will.” He stole it, and her craving for it increased threefold the next day. “If he was to have any rest, her husband must once more descend into the garden... when he had clambered down the wall, he was terribly afraid, for he saw the enchantress standing before him.” She asks how he could steal from her and says he’ll suffer for it. He asks for mercy as he only did it out of necessity for his wife to keep her from dying from longing for the rampion. “Then the enchantress allowed her anger to be softened, and said to him,’“If thou case be as thou sayest, I will allow thee to take away with thee as much rampion as thou wilt, only I make one condition, thou must give me the child... it shall be well treated, and I will care for it like a mother.’ The man in his terror consented to everything...” TLDR: So yeah, her mom had such an intense craving that it was killing her to not have any and in terror, her husband agreed with the enchantress to give her their baby in exchange for as much rampion as his wife could eat and mercy on them for stealing. (I didn’t mean for this to be so long but I love fairy tales 😅)
One if the reason's we actually love Eugene is because he actually has lines in the movie most Disney princes only speak about 4 times throughout the movie and show up to save the day and confess their undying love for the princesses somehow...🤷🏿♀️
Something that may blow your mind; whenever Mother Gothel tells Repunzel she loves her she actually says it to the hair. Whenever Flynn expresses love he pushes her hair away from her face. How's that for cool and subtle on the part of Disney animators.
You literally called her having another family. Big spoiler for the animated series: Gothel has a biological daughter named Cassandra who she basically left in the dust practically her entire life while she raised Rapunzel.
Omg really? I’ve seen songs with Rapunzel and Cassandra but I didn’t know she was Mother Gothels daughter. Isn’t Mother Gothel super old? And she has a child who is Rapunzels age?
Tangled is not only one of the best Disney features but it's also one of the best written because it actually offers a script with two protagonists. Both Eugene and Rapunzel are the protagonists of the story.
@@elizabethblack2674 no need, you just have to watch “Tangled: the series”. Is A MASTERPIECE but a lot of people ignore it because “it’s just the series of the movie, so it must be bad”. I super recommend it to you, and yes that’s were the actual daughter Gothel appears
@@elizabethblack2674 Yes, all three season are on Disney Plus. It's a different art style, but it has the same voice actors (and so many famous Broadway actors as supporting characters), which makes it really good.
mother gothel is such a good Villan because she uses psychology and mind manipulation instead of just killing and hurting people physically .. she goes for the mind! ... and we all know someone who is like that in our life...so we can relate to it even more when she is abusing Rapunzel psychologically...
Definitely watch Ever After (with Drew Barrymore). It's a Cinderella story that's a lot of fun. The Prince in it def gives Flynn Ryder vibes with the sass and feelin' himself so hard!
In terms of favorite Cinderella movies, for me it’s 1) Disney Animated Cinderella, 2) Ever After (not by much!!!), and 3) Disney Live Action Cinderella.
My husband said, the aerial shot of the scene of the king and queen released their lanterns and everyone followed, it looked like Rapunzel's hair lighting up magically.
I’m pretty sure Flynn was created when they got all the woman that worked in the studio and asked them all the things they looked for in a guy and then created Flynn based on that
At a camp I went to this summer we did a Variety Show where anyone could submit themself to go up on stage and do acts, wether it's singing, ukulele, or funny skits and so two of the girls ~ I'll call them C and S ~ did one where they were sitting facing each other in a red wagon pulled by this other girl ~ L ~ , who pulled them back and forth and all over the stage as if they were in a boat and holding a lantern between them. Then they turned on the "Now that I See You" song and lip synced to the song, C as Eugene and S as Repunzel XD And they got into it too, doing grand hand gestures and swaying to their "singing", and then L just had this blank face the whole time as she carted them around XD It was SO funny!
You can't hear "Let's get down to business..." without finishing the sentence. (If someone read this comment without finishing the sentence, even in their mind, you are dead inside :P )
9:13 It was probably just coincidence, but you’re right when you said that it’s Repunzel’s castle. The key difference between a medieval castle and a tower was that you slept in castles. A lot of medieval towers eventually became castles because it was just easier for the rulers
Billy, please react to The Hunchback of Notre Dame. #bingers Also, fun fact about Tangled; every time Mother Gothel shows affection to Rapunzel, she's actually showing it to her hair. Kissing, patting, brushing the hair. Meanwhile, when Flynn/Eugene shows Raps affection, he brushes her hair aside and looks her in the eyes.
I think the reason why this is most peoples favorite Disney movie is because they can relate to Rapunzel and her trauma. I know I can, seeing as how I even nickname my own birth giver Mother Gothel. Sometimes the kind of villains that are the most scary are the ones that imitate life.
They did a series for this movie, it takes place after the movie and before they get engaged. I personally liked it because it follows Rapunzels’ journey of really discovering who & why she is. It also shows Flynn/Eugene being a supportive boyfriend and listening to her when she says that she’s not ready for marriage just yet. And it has a great friendship storyline about trust and being supportive. It’s on Disney+.
@@brielleadair5857 I wouldn’t call it a mini series. The Tangled show ran for around 3 yrs. For most Disney movies turned shows, that’s actually a long time
@@brielleadair5857 yeah it’s a good series. But goddamn it feels more like a shonen anime about a princess instead of a fairytale series. Just search up Tangled incantations and you’ll see what I mean. Gives me super Dragon Ball/Bleach/Naruto vibes 😂
#bingers For Animated movies: You should check out - How to Train Your Dragon, The Prince of Egypt, Coco, The Little Mermaid (especially since you don't really remember it/have seen it.) For other movies: The Addams Family VALUES, Legally Blonde, White Chicks, The Parent Trap, Sydney White, What A Girl Wants.
Oh yes the How To Train Your Dragon trilogy is the definition of amazing! Some of the best soundtracks out there and the story and animation is absolutely incredible!
16:18 “Some of y’all got cockroaches doing dances in y’alls kitchen” reminded me of a movie that would be fun to see you react to. “Joe’s Apartment”. 🪳🪳🪳🪳
BillyBinges, I absolutely loved your reactions to 'Tangled.' The scriptwriters were on top of their game when it came to the character's dialogue. There are so many delightful lines, and I loved Max, the horse.
No lie… this is my mother. It took me years to finally learn my boundaries and ALOT of reassuring that it was the right thing to continue those boundaries. I love my mom no doubt but the gaslighting, manipulations, and narcissistic behavior over the years made it hard to see things different and separate myself to grow. Once I saw this movie it made me laugh and cry. I saw it on repeat for 2 days.
Super Carlin Brothers actually did a video on how Gothel is actually Megara from Hercules and it makes so much sense actually. In the moments where she talks about the world destroying the tiniest flicker of light, I always see her talking from experience. She became the villain. She wasn't born one. And now I'll never see anything else
Love this movie. The scene where she's out of the tower and feeling the gamut of emotions is hilarious and yet sadly accurate for anyone who was ever gaslighted by a narcissist.
The reason they called it Tangled is because they wanted to make it so that girls boys etc can enjoy it. And notice that every time Gothal says she loves Rapunzel she touches her hair. There’s actually a series on disney plus called Rapunzel’s Tangled Adventure.
When this movie first came out, I immediately thought of my mother when Gothel came on screen. I was 11 years old at the time and I called her out on it once and she got so mad. 😅
Fun fact: the whole time mother Gothel was talking to Rapinzels hair Fun fact two: flyn is actually a prince who was put in the orphanage to be saved(more details in “tangled the series”)
Honestly Cass looks so much like Gothel in the series id be like how does Rapunzel never look at her and recognize that. That series is so good, there’s a lot of good songs in it, especially once it really starts to focus on the main story.
That horse is laugh-out-loud, one of the most hilarious characters Disney has ever created! Honestly I never NOT snort/or flat out bust up laughing whenever he's on screen - and the rest of the cast is is not un-funny...
Billy's so savage to Flynn even when he's dying. Then he says his last words and Billy's swooning 🤣 And then when he finally dies, Billy's like "Oh.." 😐 This man is so all over the place, I can't 😂
If you're into animated movies, watch Big Hero 6 or Spies in Disguise. They're both so well written and have good messages about trusting your friends.🥺😍
Maximus (the horse) kinda reminds me of Alvito from Road to El Dorado lol. Would love to see a reaction to that film on the channel someday - it's *so* good
Fun fact: in the song "ive got a dream" at one point you can see pinochio on the shelf, also do you relise how theres always one persons name he sames wrong, in frozen its olaf "olive" in descendents its uma "urma" and heres its mother gathel "mother athel
Ooooo you should do a Disney Princess binge! Start with Snow White, the first full length animated movie released by Walt Disney and the first “Disney Princess”! 🥰 Then you can do the rest! #bingers
I've watched this movie like 4 times (loving every moment) and yet this is the very FIRST time I've realized that at 14:37-14:43, Flynn only tried to use reverse psychology on her because he noticed she is easily manipulative. He's literally adding fuel to the fire of hurting her mental health. At this point in the story, she's been so vulnerable to him about how she's never been let outside the Tower and that she's happy but feels wrong and like a terrible person because of her crazy mother. I mean, the way she talks about Mother Gothel and herself, who wouldn't realized she's been manipulated her entire life? Who wouldn't have sympathy? I know this is only a movie and everything I'm saying doesn't really matter but I just find it surprising how likable Flynn Rider is as a character despite this moment in the film. I'm glad he had a huge character arc but I still wonder.....did all of his personality change? Or do he sometimes still play on others weaknesses to get what he wants in small degrees now that he's married to Rapunzel?
fun fact: they make an appearance in Elsa's coronation in Frozen... for a split second you can see them on the bridge when Anna's doing her 'for the first time in forever' number..
