The Madagascar franchise of movies are interesting with Why Madagascar 2 is Easily the Best One, from Dreamworks who made megamind, road to el dorado, shrek and puss in boots the last wish. Alex and the Penguins are really funny and King Julien really likes to move it move it.

The grandma, Alex's drug trip (specifically the fast-forwarded second one), Alex & Marty's slow-mo reunion, the "Help" sign changing to "Hell", Alex being woken up from his steak hallucination to find his teeth in Marty's rump, Alex scaring Morty, and the Penguins' "Well, this sucks" reaction were probably the moments I laughed the hardest at this film as a kid. Not everyone has to find the same stuff funny, obviously, but I personally still very much enjoy this movie as a 31 year old man.

I was very surprised while watching their reaction to this film because they kept hating and hating it and I'm not... like Madagascar was one of my favorite cartoon movies as a kid, and I rewatched few months ago as an adult (19) and I still liked it. So them hating it made me feel self-conscious. What if I have bad tastes in movies? What if I'm stiff a dumb kid? But then I realized it doesn't really matter, some enjoy one type of jokes, the others enjoy other type, that what makes people people.

You clearly don't realize that Mort is not only older than Julian, but that he's also the first of his species and older than his own grandmother. I took off my sweatshirt and threw it on stage (I was near the front since I sprung for VIP) for her to sign. My bra was still on - not going to throw that - but after she signed and threw my sweater back into the crowd (and it got passed back to me), instantly like, 20 bras just got thrown on stage. Did anyone else play the little Penguins of Madagascar mini game that was a special hidden feature on the DVD menu of this movie where you'd play as the penguins to help them go through this maze on the boat to reach the conductor room without getting caught in the watch tower lights before they beat up the conductor like in the movie? I did and it was SO fun when I discovered it as a kid 😂👌

Second is shockingly great. Not a masterpiece or anything, but easily the best of the dranchise.

Worst thing about the third movie is they immediately leave Africa, without saying goodbye to Alex’s family. The second movie ends with them saying they’re not going anywhere only for the third movie to start with Alex depressed that he can’t leave.
