This movie is not for the weak❗️ She was uneducated Ugly in the eyes of the world Forced to be a parent Mom was a rapist/ abusive/predator Dad was a rapist/predator Never stood a chance but beat all odds , truly bittersweet and hard to watch😢

I bought it, watched it one time and never ever watched it again. I don't even know where it's at frankly. You need to watch your words though especially on RU-vid you can't say jack sh** on here, change that R word or you'll get reported. Trust me I speak how, when I want to but they flagged me plenty times, I'm an Aquarius we believe in our freedom but it shole ain't none on here. Do as you will though❤

Precious is such a sad movie, but it's a reality to more people than not. I worked in corrections for 2 years as a Nurse and most of the repeat offenders had a story similar to this one. In and out of the system looked at as trash and a waste of society because they cannot take back the control that was once taken from them. Along with my own trauma and theirs, I could no longer work in that field. I concluded people in society damage others, but want to to throw them away once they grow older and act in the trauma they were subjected to. As a society we have to do better and it's everyone's responsibility.🙏🏾

The flash of her fantasizing about her life , is her disassociating, imagining a better life than she living, disassociating is something people do when their abused sexually ,physically which induces trauma and causes the brain to split creating different personalities and identities for that person

I a lot of people that experience extreme abuse “hallucinate” or image better lives to escape the way they’re feeling which is why she has those scenes where she’s “famous” or “loved”

I was only able to watch this movie once. The actress who played precious’ mom (Monique) won an academy award, she did an amazing job. Even though you had your jokes I can see that you took most of the movie very seriously, the fact that you almost cried shows that. There was a lot of crying while filming some of the scenes. This movie isn’t based on a true story in the sense of 1 person’s story, it’s based on many teenagers that a teacher working in Harlem came across during the 80’s. Awesome reaction, you should try reacting to some early 2000’s horror like the 1st final destination movie, leprechaun from the hood or jeepers creepers 2.

@@hdc1979because that is who she is. I always felt that “who’s gonna love me scene”’ was TOO real and come to find out, that is who Monique really is. Only difference is she has a son (Shalon) not a daughter and it wasn’t sexual abuse it was emotional and mental abuse her husband put him through and Monique allowed it because she wanted a man. She’s a sad woman in real life it’s hard to watch sometimes.

I think the part most people don't get is about the mom, Monique's character. Although it's not addressed in the film, there's room to recognize that the mom was abused as well. By no means does it excuse her disgusting, unforgivable behavior, I don't believe that she was completely a monster in her life. It's plausible that the reason why she herself is angry towards her own mom (the grandmother) is due to generational trauma. The fact that she allowed her husband to SA their daughter is telling. She was already beaten down at that point. Again, not at all excusing her behavior. Just possible insight.

Mary says that to her mother. It’s alluded to that Mary’s mother was the same way with her. But somewhere along the line she must have learned the wrongs of her ways and likely was tryna raise Precious daughter to correct those mistakes. Most parents do this. They dote on their grandchildren because they failed their children and want to make up for it.

I know, I have family members who have been through similar and always question themselves as to whether they're just being overprotective or is it their trauma or both? They didn't repeat the cycle either, they went on to become successful but have residual trauma.

I initially was gonna disagree but after comparing and contrasting both stories, Precious was the “Colored Purple” of its generation. Abused by the father figures in their lives. Considered “undesirable” by society. Being told they’ll never be anything but still having the strength to try and be something. Garnering the strength to finally leave their abusers through the love and confidence their friends give them. Joanne played the “Shug” character. Mariah was kinda like “Sophia”. The teacher was “Nettie”. Spanish girl was like “Squeak”. Only difference is Celie’s mother didn’t know the stepfather was the one abusing her. They even have two kids, a boy and girl. Omg lol wow never realized how similar those movies were

Gabourey Sidibe was a revelation! Also, she is FUNNY! Watch the Prank Penel. Still, this film unnerved me: criminal under-use of Lenny Kravitz; AMAZING Mariah Carey; Monique as the greatest film villain since Ralph Fiennes in Schindler's List. Wow.

This movie is sad, disgusting, triggering and scandalous I highly suggest you watch this movie from beginning to end versus skipping all over the place. I can watch just about any movie but 13 minutes in I was so done with this movie there were plenty highlights that you missed, SMH!!!
