Welcome to Matty’s diaries. Matty is a 16 year old complex character from the English Riviera who just so happens to be my son. Matty started time-lapsing and recording at the beginning of his isolation in March 2020. I have no idea where the idea came from, he just grabbed his IPad one day and started recording his jigsaw progress. This then expanded to diamond paintings, Lego and then our drives out. They became a way of Matty giving his news to loved ones and school friends who he no longer saw. As of today 16.10.2021 writing this update we have been isolating/Shielding 589 days so far. Matty’s just had his first vaccine and we hope to get him back to school in January once staff have retrained. Wrap around care is just me (Tracey) and Mattys dad Mike. I do the waking night shifts and sleep in the morning, this has given me hours of lonely time during the night to edit Matty’s creations and try and make them watchable. It’s almost become a therapy for Matty and I. I’m not going to list Matty’s health record but take away the obvious artificial airway he actually has more complex issues you can’t see. He is really a very innocent, unworldly 4-5 year old who thrives on routine and positive praise. So please be kind, we never imagined that anyone other than family would ever see the videos and to be honest the family stopped watching and commenting a long long time ago. However we have made some lovely RU-vid friends who have been such a huge part of Matty’s shielding life. Each day Matty checks his comments to look for his regular viewers who he has come to rely on. They make him happy. Matty cannot reply to comments independently so as much as he reads them every night, I reply with him once or twice a week. We are grateful.
Matty’s drives are split in to smaller parts which makes them easier to find when he sends his weekly links to his class mates.
At this moment in time Matty is home schooled 5 mornings a week for 2 hours by his favourite TA from school, this stops and starts depending on Matty’s wellbeing and on covid/illness in school. This takes place In the garden or behind perspex to keep matty safe. The school have been amazing and we are very lucky.
Any questions please just ask me, I’m happy to answer. We travel within a 2 hour radius of Torbay and are happy to drive somewhere on request, it gives Matty a task and he loves a task.
Matty is in the van with headphones on watching/Listening to his beloved carnival dvds. It’s his happy place, the only place he doesn’t tic, rock, pick and pace. It’s also the closest Mike and I get to down time as Matty will be relaxed and not have any anxiety.
At the moment we stay in the van driving and people watching, rarely get out, Matty in general refuses to. We can be out for 3 - 4 hours on a longer drive so we purchased a Porto loo which is a bucket with a lid. Does the job and keeps Matty safe. It really is the basics and smallest things that are keeping us plodding along until we can be with loved ones again.
Seriously be kind please, we really are just winging it and I’m so exhausted that negative stuff effects me, it shouldn’t but it does.
Anyway stay safe, we hope you like our little videos, but if not that’s fine. We made them for Matty so as long as he is happy, life is good.
We watch the videos on tv everyday that we are stuck at home Which Is 90% of the time, they show us the outside world. So not for critics just for us to enjoy and reminisce and share with like minded souls.
Update Matty started his special needs college on the 14th June 2022, It’s going well. 👍🏻👍🏻
🥰🥰🥰

I don’t know why RU-vid decided I’d like to see this, but I am so glad it did. I had no idea this even existed, but what a wonderful place. To see children playing and having fun and hearing you chatting away, in the background all while the tide comes in and the sun is going down. This has gone straight to the top of my great videos list. I now know it’s one of your older videos, but they are all really engaging. You look like a close family and I which you all every happiness.

@danielcarter305
@danielcarter305 8 дней назад
@mtmadigan82 Tell me about it. We only drain it halfway in the winter. So it's not as bad as when we have to empty it to do maintenance. The storms in the winter fill it to overflowing. One year after emptying it one winter to make repairs to the filter, we got one of those meters that you attached to a fire hydrant and filled it that way. The water was cheaper, but the permits we had to pay for all the headaches weren't worth it. Since all the fire hydrants were on the other side of the street, we had to fish a leader through the storm drain and pull the hose through a 16-inch drain so we weren't disrupting traffic.
@juans3728

And you don't have to wait till it fills up
@mtmadigan82
@mtmadigan82 5 дней назад
@@danielcarter305lol, that sounds like it was a good time. I'm in a smaller suburb, and those meters we'd use so. But our FD had tanker trucks that the city would offer for half the price if we'd use their firetrucks/pumptrucks just so their guys could get sometime in practicing operations of filing their trucks, running hoses, emptying and repeating as training. It was even better because the neighborhood kids would all flock over and get tours of equipment, playing with the protective clothes and helmets. Was good all around. I tried getting them to wave charges, on the grounds of free training and community outreach. Standing there the station officer goes, at 150 we lose money before even getting to your house. I couldnt even say anything, the wife beat me to it. Only 150? We'll give you 500 for your help and generosity of your time. She the side eye for a second, but it really is cool watching the kids have a blast, and the fd just as much showing them their firetrucks.

@@markhostetler6319 it's definitely rising. Although not by much. My wife's family owns a beach cabin. They have had it since before our wedding. We spent our honeymoon there. That was 29 years and 7 months ago. It's literally right on the water, but in a protected bay. The Siletz bay in Lincoln City, Oregon. There is a MASSIVE rock on Cannon Beach. And tide pools. It's very clear that the high tide level is several inches higher than it used to be just looking at old pictures. But the real proof is the rock at the water line where I chipped out a "C N" with a very ugly heart in between them. When I did it I purposely did it above the high tide line so it would always be visible. About 3 years ago I noticed it was several inches underwater. We have also lost about 4 feet of the property due to erosion leaving the deck only about 10 feet from the water now. When the tide goes out we have about a quarter of a mile of beach out to the inlet...

I saw someone ask how it empties, I wondered too so I looked it up. I’m way up in Northern England though 😁so I didn’t know about it either, but it’s a great idea 😁 Maintaining Shoalstone Swimming Pool It has to be done on the day when it is a high tide (about 5 metre). When the tide is going out a valve is opened so the pool drains into the sea.
@adrianwright8685
@adrianwright8685 22 дня назад
They can empty it any time the sea level is lower than the pool bottom. They can only fill it it when sea level is higher than the pool top which only occurs I think at 'spring' high tides - about twice a month.

@@nikiTricoteuse just think, we can all have a successful life now we’ve all learned about this pool’s existence and how it fills and empties 😂 Before the internet we couldn’t have probably even found the right phone number then be put through to the right person & probably still wouldn’t have know how 😂 I’ve spent too long in classrooms, I do love a bit of randomness

I’ll watch with her as she will love seeing Matty and she loves the beach. We live close to one and go often for her to see the boats. She’s always smiling too! Enjoy your travels. Stay safe and happy.😊

Ha! Who knew that such a thing happened? I am today years old and just finding out that that's how lidos work. Now I'm going down the rabbit hole of 'are they all done on the same principle'? I remember, as a child, going into Pickie Pool in Bangor, North Down and I don't think I've ever been colder; Devon looks much more appealing. Well done Matty for informing the nation and well done Edna for her part in the effort. (Also thanks M's mum and dad). 💖
