Watching THE BATMAN For The First Time! The Batman (2022) Reaction 

Never before has a writer/director so completely understood the connection between Batman and Gotham city as this movie. The city itself is a character, the presence of it is so felt in every person's motives/actions. Perfect Batman movie!

People forget Batman is a detective. I liked this movie so much. Zoe ...you did Catwoman due justice!

You had me hooked with the GOT reactions and now this? Come on! This has become my favorite Batman film. I was completely impressed with Pattinson’s performance. Paul Dano as the Riddler was just perfection. The whole cast killed their roles and Zoe Kravitz’s Catwoman is in the goat conversation.

Second. Reminder that the greatest thing Netflix ever produced wasn't Stranger Things, The Crown, or Queen's Gambit, it's "Dark". The highest quality of TV you'll ever find. One of the most complicated, beautiful, darkest, most perfectly executed things you'll ever watch. So @majorreacts please do DARK reactions next time

@30:00, Bruce’s mom having a history of mental illness makes me almost give him a side eye. In some incarnations of Batman, his mental stability isn’t always considered the most ideal. Batman is sort of like a high functioning sociopath with a strong sense of morality and civic responsibility. If not for those last two qualities, I could easily see Batman being more like the Punisher.

Orphan just means a kid with no parents be they alive or dead to care for them. Bruce became an orphan when his parents were killed. Enjoyed this movie soooo damn much. That Batmobile intro, the moment you start to hear the Batmobile power on and wind up, the sound so was freaking evil and petrifying. So Awesome! Glad you enjoyed Maj. 👍👍

The best Batman entrance of all time... They made him the "boogie man". Can't tell me you wouldn't "back up" if some angry 6'2 weirdo dressed up like a bat walked out of the shadows.

No one ever watches the Batmans in release order, ('66, '89, Returns, Forever, B&R, Begins, DK, DKR, BvS, The Batman) so don't worry about it, Major. Starting at the beginning with Batman '66 is tough for a lot of people, as the humor doesn't always land nowadays and it's too campy and colorful for some. The 90's era, starting with Batman '89 and Batman Returns, is a good place to jump in, as they are still quite funny and have the dark aesthetic that would prevade the property going forward, and were a big influence on the animated series of the 90's. Some people like to jump straight into the Nolan trilogy, but I think it's important to understand that Batman is not to be taken too seriously before seeing Nolan wring the fun out.

So hyped to watch this tonight. My favourite Batman movie now!

Great reaction and Pattinson is an excellent young Batman! He’s in year 2 of being brilliant detective, vengeful, angry Batman and less billionaire Bruce Wayne. He’s still more vengeance than justice, but by the end you can see the personality shift from being the darkness to being the light

Fun fact: Batman is based off of a fictional character called The Shadow back in 1930, and he is often depicted with dual 1911 pistols or a Tommy gun. Batman didn't appear until the late 1930's almost a decade later. Batman is also influenced by Zoro.

DC has some movies in a sort of release order... but for the most part they aren't interconnected. The Tim Burton Batman movies aren't connected to the Nolan Dark Knight Trilogy... and neither is this Matt Reeves The Batman movie (and potential trilogy). Even the main DCEU which is supposed to mirror the MCU has connectivity issues. But for the DCEU, you should watch in this order: Man of Steel Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (Extended Cut) Zack Snyder's Justice League 2021. Everything else in the DCEU can follow after that

So with the Batman and Joker don't worry about not having seen other Batman movies. DC comic's has a comic branding called Elseworlds. These publications are set in alternate realities that deviate from the established continuity of DC's regular comics. Both the Joker and Batman act like Elseworld stories both taking place outside of the main established continuity (DCEU) in different universes (Earths) which is why we can have Ben Affleck's Batman active in the DCEU but also Robert Pattinson as Batman in this new universe. I believe the Batman was meant to be set in the DCEU with Ben Affleck returning as Batman but this never happened. Thankful it did not happen as the DCEU is a mess but I would've still loved to see Affleck in a solo Batman movie something they should've done before jumping into Batman VS Superman. 5:47 Depicting on the rendition Gotham traditionally is depicted as being located in the U.S. state of New Jersey somewhere south of New York City close to Atlantic city. But Gotham is as most of a character as Batman so there's been a few renditions with many characters so the City could be anywhere from New York State to New Jersey. But yeah originally Gotham was based on New York but over the year's the city has developed it's own feel and look. This film was actually film mostly in Liverpool and Glasgow with Glasgow having some of the most amazing gothic architecture in any city. From a visual standpoint, loved Gotham City looked amazing very Arkham Knight (Video Games highly recommend the Arkham games) the mix of old meets new that 1930s gothic look meets modern 2020 and hints of 1970s/1980s. Wish we saw a little bit more art deco designs but this is more of a nit-pick. Of course this movie also had modern tech what you'd expected in the 2020s with those massive Monitors on the side of buildings adding so much to the overall look of the city, modern version of classic 1930s billboards. also love the classic 1950s style diner where Riddler was captured just felt so much like the opening of Arkham Knight and it's Gotham in general which drew from every depiction of Gotham from the Neon Lights of Joel Schumacher Gotham to the more retro 1930s artistic from the Burton movies and of course the modern day artistic featured in the Nolan movies. This film nailed the Gothic look while also keeping it more grounded something The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises lacked both didn't really feel like Gotham but instead some random East Coast city with a lack of a personality. This film drew heavily from the Batman Earth-One issues in one key area. Martha Wayne being an Arkham instead of a Kane pulled right from Batman Earth-One. In almost all renditions Martha is a Kane just like Bruce's cousin Kate Kane who is of course Bat woman. Maybe Kate still exists in this universe but as an Arkham but who knows. Alfred also trained Bruce in both Earth-One and this film with the Earth-One Alfred being a Royal Marine. Since Frank Millers Year One comic Bruce has spent his early years exploring the world coming back to Gotham like we see in Batman Begins which is where he learnt to fight. The music Is very Shirley Walker who composed the amazing music for the Batman Animated Series. The composer Michael Giacchino who did The music for The Batman was inspired by her music something I wish we heard more of. There's also a track that plays at the funeral outside when Bruce gets out of her car that sounds very animated series. My ideal Sequel would 100% be a movie focused around Mister Freeze inspired by his appearance in the Batman Animated Series would both give us an interesting villain but also a fun setting go more for a winter theme with blue overtones instead of Red maybe add more colour instead of the film being dark 24/7. But each to their own lol I know people who adore this movie and others not so much mostly relating to how long the movie was or how some characters didn't get more time. But yeah I myself adored the film and found it to be the most comic feeling Batman film to date. My biggest problem with the DCEU is how rushed and unplanned everything felt along with cities like Metropolis and Gotham and how boring and generic they looked compared to other media. Much bigger fan of these stand alone movies like Joker and The Batman.

This is hands down my favorite depiction of Gotham on film. It's like New York but blown the hell up. New York but exploded outward and downward. Like all of the puddles and screens and ads and grime just turned into cancer and grew and grew and grew.

No, Gotham is not New York. It's just a fictional city that is loosely based on New York. Metropolis is another fictional DC city that based on New York.

@5:55, the names Gotham and Metropolis are alternative names for our real world New York City. In the DC comics, the city of Gotham represents the seedy and violent side of NYC after dark. The city of Metropolis represent the shiny aspirational side of NYC during the day. That said they are two separate cities in DC Comics. Gotham is protected by Batman while Metropolis is protected by Superman.

@2:24, this is a reboot of the Batman franchise. So you don’t need to view earlier movies. That said DC more or less considers all Batman movies to be canon. So every incarnation of Batman is still valid. They are just one different versions of Earth in the DC multiverse. Similar to how all Spider-Man movies are also canon.

I liked some things about this movie. But I wish there was more and better dialog. Instead of us watching Bruce take a long walk to Falcone, cut things like that shorter. Some of the movie just felt like a music video. Alot of people just staring at eachother or slow talking (someone talks, other pauses for a bit, then talks.) A little bit more of Alfred would be nice too

In the DC Universe, you can think of Gotham and Metropolis as versions of New York City. Especially when looking at the principle two villains, The Joker and Lex Luthor. From them, you get a feel for what idealized aspect of big city life(and crime)the cities represent. The Joker's corruption is low down and chaotic, like the street of skid row. Luthor's corruption is all about power, ego and avarice, like giant investment banks writing their own rules and robbing main street. So Gotham always seems darker and more over run with poverty. And Metropolis, is a shining symbols of corporate agency.

@14:45, Selina Kyle is a good hand to hand combatant. But she has never been considered a top tier fighter. Batman is one of the top ten fighters in the DC universe. If you noticed none of the punches or kicks she launched at Batman ever connected. He was able to easily evade all of her combos and restrain her.
