There were orcs with bows on the other side of the bridge. After Gandalf falls you can see Aragorn dodging a few arrows as he flees. Going out to help Gandalf would’ve been too risky.

Monica Gollum had the ring for about 500 years before Bilbo found it, and it's been decades since then. His mind ain't coming right any time soon.

Gandalf is not a mortal old man who became a wizard, he's actually a low level Angel called a Maiar. It's the same with the other wizard Saruman the White he is a Maiar too, the Balrog was also a Maiar but it was corrupted by the first Dark Lord Morgoth and became a demon shadow and flame. Morgoth was the master if Sauron who later became the second Dark and created the One Ring.

There was actually some pre-release drama with this film as the filmmakers debated whether or not it should be called "The Two Towers" so soon after 9/11 happened. They ultimately stuck with it.

The bridge is damaged and the orcs were firing arrows. More weight would have collapsed the bridge further

A little note about the scene where Aragorn kicks the helmet and screams @23:00, Viggo actually broke his toe and that's the cut they kept for the release.

Frodo and Sam would never find Mt. Doom or be able to avoid all the orcs protecting the way without Gollum. Frodo had no choice but to let Gollum show the way. Also, Frodo, as a ring bearer, knows what the ring did to Gollum and he hopes that he can save Gollum, or else maybe he could not save himself. Frodo did not trust Gollum, but needed him and hoped for him. Sam could not possibly understand that.

Gandalf still had the Balrog hanging from his leg by its whip as he hung on… that was a lot of weight to hold, and if they had somehow pulled him up, the Balrog would’ve come with him. He had to fall, whether his strength or grip gave out or he decided to save them from the Balrog.

At 9:30, you say, "I didn't know they could speak." The movie doesn't make the point very clearly, but in the book, the Orcs carrying Merry and Pippin are from three separate tribes. Each tribe of Orcs has its own foul language, but when separate tribes come together, as here, they can speak with each other a debased form of the Westron or Common Speech of the West of Middle-earth, which Tolkien translated as English. In the book, the three tribes include the small Orcs from Moria ("Why can't we have some meat?"), come to kill and avenge their folk; the medium-sized Orcs from Mordor ("Oh, they look tasty!"), who want to take the prisoners back to Sauron; and the large Uruk-hai ("They are not for eating!") who are taking the Hobbits to Saruman. It isn't always clear in the movie, but the folks at Weta Workshop got the message and created three separate Orc designs for the movie.

Fun fact: Aragorn (Viggo Mortensen) broke at least one toe when he kicked that helmet so that scream must have been real, at least in part.

I wonder if the reason Gandalf fell might have been because the whip was still wrapped around his ankle and the heavy huge balrog still grasping it. That would be a lot of weight if that was true.

Some people just dont know how to shut up. Thats all I got from these two. Almost every aspect goes completely over the girl's head. Constant questions that would be answered by simply SHUTTING UP, and watching the film. The PAUSE BUTTON is PARAMOUNT if you insist on bumping your gums throughout. Maybe stick to watching something not so complex. Anything Disney seems the appropriate speed. Not a whole lot going on there....😂😂😂😂

I kind of let the first reaction go, but honestly not paying attention is so cringy. And I hate being a negative nancy but she is not enjoyable to watch. She gives off cup half empty vibes and it's a no for me. Maybe it works for other watchers though.
