Ram Dass talks about how all the past and all the future are just thoughts. You learn to witness the river of thoughts go by. Just like you are a witness of your eyes registering sights. You can be a witness to your thoughts. You will notice that a thought grabs you and pulls your attention and pulls you this way or that way. It will pull you off center. You want to stay centered and watching your thoughts, not getting involved with them. If you're watching, you will see how quickly you are off center. In India, Ram Dass meditated on a rock in a river. Things drifted by and he could either follow all that our he could let it come and go and stay centered.

This is most easiest and effective way to 'Being' and then to 'Enlightenment'. And the 'River and Rock Example' is really good example. Really, really helpful, thanks :)

The question remains, if I am the observer of thughts, who am I who is the observer? Consciousness? Then, what is consciousness? Any mental answer is also a thought that can be observed.

FilmBritt I had that question too! Hence you anchor you attention on something non-verbal and present, like your breath or your heartbeat! Breath is easiest and heartbeat is the most fundamental, so try both out and figure out what works for you. The point of meditation is not control but giving up control. When you fully realize that you are something completely different than your thoughts, you will be liberated from their effects, hence you will be freed from all suffering, all desires and you will be left with a steady stream of blisssssss!! Namaste!!

Thanks! Continuous awareness on the breathing is very nice and non-mental. Even so using the phrase "grounded here" and feel the effect of the words.

I would wanna believe that consciousness is the awareness of the Self that we are and share,as the observer or observed depending on the individual conscious level a particular part of consciousness is at whether by choice or blissful unawareness.

Can you observe a thought directly like you observe mountain?

I'm realy strugling to wrap my head around this. I'm trying to watch my thoughts but I can only observe the thought after it has already materialised and not at the time the thought occurs. Is this the idea of watching my thoughts or am I missing something?

Me too! ☺️Good point. I think it's more about Detachment. After they've gone means probably that the thought has your full attention & you were too absorbed to notice it. That's why awareness is important. Ram Dass teaches this mantra: Ram Ram I AM loving awareness...thank you 🧡

PS. No that's not the idea'it leans you are detached from the thought & looking at it as a third party! Like it's not your thought. You simply notice it, make it non-personal. I've experienced it a few times but it's not always possible.

Thanks Red Leaf. This whole spiritual process is so overwhelming and feels like there is so much to remember. It gets a little confusing. Did you experiance this awareness while meditating? I imagine the feeling of realisation is amazing is it?

@@alibirnie1545 my pleasure. Yes it is very overwhelming. It's not a straight road though, it's more like a spiral, you go so high, then you go back down... A bit like a winding road. It's very confusing!

first you'll have to make the difference between you and the mind. they are two different things that is the (mind/body) and you , the mind/body generates the thoughts, you do not. If ur able to make this difference , then you'll say o yeah , a thought just came into my mind and then from now , analyse the thought see what kind of emotion it generates , that emotion will push you to action . Do not action just watch the thought, and let it go ... but to do not action.

hi , i dunno but this morning i woke up and have been witnessing my thoughts. i tend to perform the routines slowly as am witnessing every thoughts popping up and making a difference between me and the body. But if things go slowly like that , its a mess as my work is quite tensed and require lot of activity ...

Our true Self is unchanging in Its infinitely great pure Goodness. Thus beholding the changing places one in the point of of view of the unchanging Self. Jesus Christ has been called "The Rock" as a parable for our true Being. As Who our true Being is we all have given our Life for the souls, to have the enjoyment of our Life back again but when also the souls would have it. In the mean time we undergo being falsely accused and spiritually tortured to death by the very humans we gave our Life for and to. The resurrection and ascension to the enjoyment of our infinitely great Goodness and original Happiness are the inheritance we willed the souls to have out of infinitely great courageous, wise, creative, pure altruistic Charity.

We at the channel would like you to know that Ram Dass had a severe stroke in the late 90's - hence, the slow speech. The stroke was so massive that he couldn't speak for a long time but eventually the fact he could still articulate these deep spiritual truths is seen as nothing short of miraculous.
