Watchmaking Vlog Episode 1
In this watchmaking episode I discuss my watchmaker dreams and goals. Design my first watch that I will make based on the ETA 6498 movement. Disassemble the watch movement and take critical measurements. Briefly overview of the Seitz jewelling tool and how to remove watch jewels and how they work in the watch.
I hope you enjoyed this episode, it was more about setting dialogue so the next episode will be more watchmaking.
Unfortunately the link I had has permission issues from the ETA. To get the documents go to www.eta.ch - Click services - Click ETA Customer Service portal - Click the Technical Documents tab next to the Home tab - Product Range dropdown select Mecaline
Then Select the movement from Caliber Dropdown Menu

Is it just me or have you forgotten the hour wheel? This is the dial train gear that fits over the cannon pinion and carries the hour hand. Or did I miss something?
@DeanDK
@DeanDK 3 года назад
Hi Robert, great pick up there is no hour wheel in this video. As you are most likely aware the hour wheel is held by in place by the hour wheel washer and a dial. If a dial is not present the hour wheel would simply fall off if the movement was upside, which it is in my video. Also, new movements usually arrive with the hour wheel and dial washer in a separate container package to the movement. Thanks for watching and your support 👍🏼😁

Best of luck to you Dean! I wish you all the best in your endeavors. A tip: if you are hoping for pros to see this and want to come across the same, maybe consider using finger cots or gloves when working with clean parts. Maybe you skipped the cots in this video because you intend to scrap or modify some parts though? Best regards Karl
@DeanDK
@DeanDK 7 лет назад
+Karl Månsson Thank you Karl! Yes, I was deciding whether to wear or not, but decided not to since some parts will scraped/sacrificed and there will be a lot of man-handling of parts, and thorough cleaning would be needed anyway. I would like to know what you would you choose to do? Or anyone else. Maybe there something I overlooked.
@karlmansson8319
@karlmansson8319 7 лет назад
So long as you have a reason for it! I thought it might just have been something you overlooked. I imagine that if you intend to keep the original plating on the parts in your project, fingertip protection at all times would be a good idea. I've had in mind doing the same thing you are doing now but haven't so I can't tell you what I would do :). Oh, and I believe the micrometer is pronounced like "finetasster" ;).
