It was probably intentional. Using the dark; more foreboding version of a song made for Batman to match a movie about the consequences of a world inhabited by superheros.
This song and the dark tone of this Watchmen movie really meshes well. I remember first hearing this on the Batman and Robin soundtrack back when that first came out. Loved the song back then and still love it now.
The Batman & Robin soundtrack used the Smashing Pumpkins song "The beginning is the end of the beginning" this is the alternate slowed and darker toned version called "The end is the beginning of the end" Yes, I'm an old SP fan.
@@Fezdani I'm pretty sure it's the other way round, this one is The Beginning is the End is the Beginning, Batman and Robin uses The End is the Beginning is the End.
Read the book. It’s much better. The move sucked. That second scene red ridiculous and not in the book. All the pointless random gore was not in the book. The ending of the movie was totally different from the book and made absolutely no sense. Zack Snyder is the worst director in history.
First rated R movie I watched in theaters. I had no knowledge of Watchmen before seeint it, but being a kid who loved comics, I wanted to go see it. Man, I wasn't sure exactly what I watched, but I knew it was something special. Now I've watched this movie a dozen times, and it's just one of my favorite superhero movies of all time. Snyder did a pretty amazing job adapting the graphic novel. Some changes, yes (Alien Squid, but apparently that may have been because of a lawsuit? Look into it, wild!) but man the cast & visuals are near perfect. After watching multiple videos on the Watchmen movies we nearly got prior to Snyder's, this was definitely the most accurate to the comics. I'm glad Dave Gibbons has defended this movie over the years, I do wish Alan Moore wasn't so jaded to the comics industry, but you can see his side too, I suppose.
Still my favorite comic book movie of all time. Even though the movie is a visual marvel, I have to admit that the color grading in some of the shots from this teaser looked even better than they did in the actual film.
I don't really care for trailers because most of them are crap nowadays but this one stíl rocks. I don't wanna watch the series because I think the movies perfect on its on. Great song too.
The series is very different. But here is something from the Smashing Pumpkins. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4aeETEoNfOg.html They are the song in the background.
I didn't wanna watch the series either but I just did. I thought it was meh in the first half hour, but then it got really good. It's an amazing series. You really should watch it.
This movie was ahead of it's time. Imagine a more comic accurate film (with the Squid) being released in 2019 after all of the superhero hype alongside The Boys on Amazon Prime. Easily one of the hardest trailers I've seen for a superhero movie.
This trailer is sooo good and this Smashing Pumpkins song was made for this trailer/Movie .... I remember being floored the first time I saw this trailer
Do you remember when in 2008 "Batman: the Dark Knight" by Nolan was realeased, then 1 year later was "Watchmen" by Zack Snyder? What a wonderful DC age!
I know the film got slack back then for being too direct with the gritty material, but I think it's the absolute best version of the book that Hollywood could've ever made. Still watch it to this day.
best DC comic/book adapted stand alone movie, thank you mr.Zack snyder. this movie only can be following by watchmen 2019 series. (Even marvel can't make a stand alone movie with dark vibes like this)
Will never forget seeing this for the first time in theaters just minutes before The Dark Knight was unleashed upon the world. It was a great night at the movies
Yep. Summer in New York City, 2008. I had to reserve a ticket 10 days in advance just to see a midnight showing, but I was going to see it on the IMAX no matter what. I remember this trailer on the wrap around screen and I was worried the movie wouldn't be as good as the previews. I was happily surprised of course but I remember seeing this on the big screen.
Read the book. It’s much better. The move sucked. That second scene red ridiculous and not in the book. All the pointless random gore was not in the book. The ending of the movie was totally different from the book and made absolutely no sense. Zack Snyder is the worst director in history.
Saw the trailer as a kid and thought it'd be another superhero film, so I got excited. Instead, I watched a masterpiece. 12 years later, still a masterpiece, but a very underrated / overlooked one, unfortunately.
I remember seeing this in the trailers of every dvd back in the 2000s. Bro I used to sit there as a kid and be like “what the fuck is this? This is super interesting” and it always used to bug me because I never knew what it was called, and the trailer just confused me because I knew nothing about the comic as a kid. And when it says “watchmen” I just always thought that was a movie company or something because it didn’t seem like a superhero movie title. And I remember singing this theme to myself. Good times man, later on down the line I wound up watching this masterpiece and I was like “shit I def wouldn’t have understood this back then” 😂😂😂
Well considering the song is super old already. This song was made for the Batman and Robin soundtrack. This is the second iteration of the song the first one was the fast version. You probably like that one too if you heard it.
Not gonna lie. I fucking hated this movie when it first came out. But something stuck with me, I had to watch it again, and I did. Now it's one of the best movies I've ever seen.
@@nahog99 2009, i must have been 13 years old at the time. Didn't help that I saw it with my dad. Dr. Manhattan made that really awkward. I was expecting a typical superhero film, but what I got was so much more.
Read the book. It’s much better. The move sucked. That second scene red ridiculous and not in the book. All the pointless random gore was not in the book. The ending of the movie was totally different from the book and made absolutely no sense. Zack Snyder is the worst director in history.
snyder cut of dawn of justice isn't bad but it still has A LOT of very bad points. Batman's execution is still piss poor. and the entire Doomsday fight is just... very disrespectful to the characters involved.
It's 2023 and this never goes old. The song by The Smashing Pumpkins is just perfect, as is the editing. Even though I saw the movie at the premiere way back in 2009, nothing can match the goosebumps and anticipation of this early trailer.
same 🥺🥺 i was a teenager when i saw this trailer first time and i got chill, so awesome!! now i'm a mom with 3 kids and still this trailer can't get out of my mind
@@WinterGirlRules Yeah for me those two are definitely 1st and 2nd place in that category. Maybe BvS takes top spot purely because it's been a victim of studio meddling and unnecessary hatred due to it being released during peak MCU hysteria, but Watchmen struggled at the Box Office and didn't get much love till around 2017 as far as I can tell... It's definitely close between the two.
When I went to the midnight screening of The Dark Knight, 0:35 is when the audience started cheering like crazy because they realized what trailer they were seeing.
I was in high school in 2009 and I remember vividly seeing this exact trailer in the movie theater, can't even remember what movie it was for. I had ZERO idea of what it was but I KNEW I had to see it, it was THAT impactful. I read the graphic novel beforehand in anticipation.
I remember I watched this trailer in 6th grade with my class, and everyone was shocked what we were seeing. A few months later that teacher for that class got fired for cussing at 2 students
People were not ready for this movie when it came out back in 2009, it’s reception was very divided and people didn’t know what to make of it. I do like that it’s getting more attention and respect now than it did back then. This to me is one of the few comic book movies that stays true to the source material while making very few changes that actually benefit the film. And for that reason it’s one of my favorite comic book movies of all time
I remember me Nd my best friend wanting to see this movie so bad. When we came out we indeed were very divided. I just couldn't understand why he hated it so much.
@@freud7264 I read the comic when it came out, month by month, and I remember the ending (for me) just didn't quite work, the giant space squid thing. I understand why they changed it. As to the movie, I think it's a masterpiece and a far, far superior movie to any I ever expected could, let alone would, get made of Watchmen.
Vividly remember my uncle putting me infront of this. Truly a goosebump trailer that I couldn't stop thinking about, I don't think I've matched it since.
Read the book. It’s much better. The move sucked. That second scene red ridiculous and not in the book. All the pointless random gore was not in the book. The ending of the movie was totally different from the book and made absolutely no sense. Zack Snyder is the worst director in history.
@@someguy42093Shut the hell up, the comic suck and also Zack is a good director he made the best DCEu movie called the man of steel. Get that through your thick skull. And stop insulting this movie with your dumb criticism.
Read the book. It’s much better. The move sucked. That second scene red ridiculous and not in the book. All the pointless random gore was not in the book. The ending of the movie was totally different from the book and made absolutely no sense. Zack Snyder is the worst director in history. He’s oneself with sex and violence. He also added random explicit sex scene to 300 which is also not in the book. He’s awful. This movie is awful. His daughter died to get away from his creepy ass.
Dammm I remembered going to the theatre to watch the dark knight and this trailer came out. I had heard of the comics but didn’t really catch my attention. The trailer did and remember turning around to see my gf. She was even excited to see this movie and we finally watched it. Good memories with Brenda G😏
You are aware it’s based of a book the came out in 1987 right? lol. Read the book. It’s much better. The move sucked. That second scene red ridiculous and not in the book. All the pointless random gore was not in the book. The ending of the movie was totally different from the book and made absolutely no sense. Zack Snyder is the worst director in history.
@@someguy42093 Eh I read the book before the movie and of course the graphic novel was a lot better but the movie did it justice in my opinion. Could do without all the extra gore but hell it’s still 1000x better than most superhero movies today. I guarantee you if this film came out today it would be revolutionary.
It is June 20, 1997. The movie "Batman & Robin" releases, the best part of which is the soundtrack. It is July 18, 2008. This trailer premieres before The Dark Knight with a song from the 1997 movie soundtrack "Batman & Robin" to great fanfare. It is March 6, 2009. The movie is derided by critics for its length and adherence (and lack of adherence) to the source material. I'm tired of this Earth, these people.
I remember watching this at age 11 with my pops at the theater. The language, the sex, the story, the fights. All majestic. Then afterwards we realized that the movie is Rated R. Then my pops said," Wanna watch it again?" >:D I think he was a bit drunk or high at the time. Good times....good times....
