In the comics, the reason Adrian beats the absolute shit out of the Comedian when he kills him is that when they were younger, the Comedian bested him in a straight fight, and Adrian was so drilled towards physical and mental perfection that getting his ass handed to him by a more experienced fighter always gnawed at his colossal ego.

I think Goode did a fantastic job as Ozymandias, but I did have issue with Hollywood not wanting to keep him as a mid-40's aging costumed hero. Half the point of Ozymandias's amazing physical conditioning was that he was mid-40's with the ability of someone in their 20's.

The tragedy of this scene touches so many levels. I think what really gets me is that Adrian was an idealist believing he could save the world and everyone on it, but the comedian convinced him that there will always be someone who wants to destroy it. So Adrian adjusted his strategies to include collateral damage in all of those major cities where his devices were planted. Deaths to shock everyone out of apathy to make them thankful to be alive and peaceful. The comedian being one of those people who loved violence knew he'd be on the chopping block.
@bossslice1921
@bossslice1921 Год назад
NO, Adrian try to create peace by making Dr. Manhattan as their common enemy so the countries will work together to solve this problem, while also at the same time being afraid as if Dr. M is watching them if they dare threatening the world peace again. Similar with how Light Yagami made the world peace using Death Note, a peace based on fear.
@zaxbitterzen2178
@zaxbitterzen2178 11 месяцев назад
My thoughts exactly. It's actually everyone else besides Ozymandias accomplishing f$%k all honestly. Rorschach was a literal psychopath albeit very intelligent. Dan and Laurie were washed up, impulsive and naïve. The comedian was literally everything wrong with people in general. Dr. Manhattan was so powerful he literally couldn't care less half the time. Adrian is the only one left with actual goals of actually saving humanity from it self. Had he not bombed TF out of numerous cities nuclear war would've killed more than 1000x more. A dark and morally ambiguous hero, but I'm sure he felt no pleasure in his plan.

For those wondering how the comedian was so easily beaten, you need to understand that Ozymandias is the smartest man alive in this story. He can predict and counter every single move that the comedian makes. Not to mention that his “super strength “ was more to do with his great understanding of physics and fighting tactics than anything else. This makes his character all the more fascinating in my opinion

The whole movie was 10/10. Shame that the campaign was so bad, that it didn't earn for itself. They could advertise it as 80's superhero team, epic Justice League rip off, instead of some mystery sci-fi. WW84 was advertised as 80's superhero movie and it earned (wrongly) hundreds of millions. Yet Watchmen had 1 000 times more 80's in here than WW84. Maybe Zack should start DCEU similarly instead of chronological order of every original, he should start with superheroes dead and defeated and go with retrospectives, and time travel.

Zack Snyder has many weaknesses as a director, but making action scenes is not one of them. On the contrary, he excels in making visceral combat scenes. The music, the effects of the Comedian busting through walls trying to hit his assassin, the knife catching, oh my god this scene is fucking great. Zack knows how to film good fighting and action. When he has a novel or comic to base his movie on, he does a really good job. The cinematography is also very well done in this movie. The costumes. Zack definitely goes the mile when it comes to aesthetics and Watchmen (2009) isn't the exception. He needs a good script writer at his side. And maybe a co director that is specifically hired to talk to actors and get the best performances out of them.
@jetuber
@jetuber 5 месяцев назад
What makes Snyder's directing of action scenes so good is that all of the activity, all of the motions, are clearly visible. No jerky shaky-cam close-ups that obscure everything (a la the overrated Ridley Scott). No, it's mostly told in masters and framed in such a way that one sees every movement.

When he's at his best he makes amazing action scenes but the same techniques he helped revolutionize he also abuses in other movies and makes the action terrible. This thankfully was not one of those instances. This scene was so well done.
