Great video, always love seeing different comic book formats being compared. Wish this video was around a few years ago when I bought the to, would have considered some of the other options instead. Anyway, look forward to your next vid.

I'd like to do a few more videos about Watchmen as there are still some aspects I want to drill down on, but then I hope to get to some more format comparisons of other titles. Sorry about my bad timing when it comes to your own purchase, but I'm glad you found the video informative and who knows - maybe a future Watchmen upgrade will just fall into your lap one day and you'll end up with your 'perfect' edition!
This video is great. Though I admit when I watched the thumbnail I thought it was an ad from Google. I just ordered my first copy of WATCHMEN online (TPB). I have never read it before (just watched the movie). But there are so many options I did not know which to chose. Again, AWESOME VIDEO! Thanks!

Nice video mate. I have a vast collection and Moore's Watchmen still sits at the top of the pile! Had a few trades then went to the deluxe, then upgraded to the absolute and now I've just ordered Watchmen Noir autographed by Gibbons. Reread so many times...and it always gets better. ✌️

@ If it isn't a hassle to answer this, do you reckon that the Deluxe paper feel is good enough to warrant the purchase? I am willing to fork over for absolute given the extras but I'd just like to know just how close you'd say they are.
@@johncruelty20 no hassle at all! The paper quality is actually quite different in my opinion. The Deluxe Edition is glossy and slippery in-hand, similar to the paper quality in many trade paper back and hard cover graphic novels - but on the stronger side of that range. The Absolute paper is much thicker with a mat finish and more texture or tooth to the paper. It’s more like what you’d find in a higher end art book. The biggest difference is in how each presents the colour. I’d say the Deluxe presents a more vibrant colour, while the Absolute presents a richer colour. They are both good, but quite different. Take your budget into consideration too. Here in Canada, the Deluxe is around 50 bucks, while the Absolute can be three times that, although it does go on sale sometimes for around 100. In my humble opinion, you’re certainly getting twice the book but likely not three times the book for the price. Hope that helps!

Excellent video, very insightful. I received today my Deluxe Edition of Watchmen and it has that printing issue you reviewed. The Absolute format is certainly the ultimate edition of any DC collection, if the money is no problem then yes, it's the way to go.

Unfortunately I do not look at the new version of the Absolute in this video, and with so many copies of Watchmen already on my shelf, I doubt I'll be getting it. Though I am still curious about the build and quality. I don't really they could add much content at this point - between the older versions of the Absolute and the current Deluxe Edition, I think DC has exhausted their library of extra content! Maybe something about the post-Watchmen releases? Though that could certainly anger some purist fans who don't believe that stuff should even exist.
The upgraded colors look ok... compared to the Absolute Sandman, which looks too computerized and loses a lot of the feeling from the old colors. However, still not convinced to upgrade, as I have the Watchmen Graphitti Design Slipcase Edition ;)
I didn’t know that about Sandman, but I def feel that for Absolute Swamp Thing. Not a fan of digital colour on older stories - just doesn’t feel right! I’m so jealous that you have a Watchmen from Graphitti…I just got a copy of their slipcase version of Kingdom Come and it is beautiful, but that Watchmen edition is my white whale. Treasure it!
You did indeed get a good one. Does yours have a stitched-in ribbon bookmark? My personal copy doesn't have it, but I know some editions do! It's a little detail, but is something I'm curious about.

If price is an issue, go for the Deluxe Edition. If you don’t mind the size/weight and cost of the Absolute Edition, it is awfully nice!p and you won’t be disappointed.
Sir what is your opinion on "Watchmen: International Edition Lenticular edition". I am confused between buying lenticular edition and deluxe edition. What are the differences? Is lenticular edition just trade paperback with a different cover or is there real differences(eg. Paper quality,etc) loved your detailed video btw.

As for the question, I haven’t had the pleasure of taking a spin through this International Edition yet, so I can’t advise on the interior paper or image quality . From what I can see, it looks to be a minor upgrade from the normal trade paperback, with a slightly thicker cover (that will likely be more susceptible to scratches and dulling over time) and some bonus content (sketches and promo art). Without having a true side-by-side, I’d have to humbly (and blindly) recommend the Deluxe Edition. If it’s looked after, it should hold up for a long time. It’s a well-built book.

@@Upgradeyourbooks yep, always do with all my books, the binding falling completely apart is a common issue with early dc bindings. My absolute v for vendetta is also falling apart. They used a terrible glue on those bindings.
@@alexworm1707 I see. That’s rough, as they are not cheap to replace! I’d hope that one purchase and proper care would make them last a lifetime…I’ll keep this in mind if I’m ever buying an older printing of an Absolute. Thank you.
Sorry, I'm not sure exactly what you mean. I put each upgrade side-by-side next to the previous version. Getting all four in-frame next to each other wasn't possible with my set-up. But I do take a very detailed (perhaps TOO detailed) side-by-side look at the TPB vs the Absolute in a subsequent video. Check it out if you can, and let me know if there is another view you'd like to see. If you were asking about a split-screen presentation, it honestly came down to my limited technical abilities and lack of faith in being able to keep track of which particular version each bit of footage pertained to!
I have a question about the trade paperback with the breaking window art. Are the contents and paper/color quality the same as the hardcover titled the book club edition?
I'm not actually familiar with the hardcover book club edition of Watchmen, but I do know that when it comes to novels the book club editions generally have cheaper and thinner paper. However, my personal copy of the 'breaking window' Watchmen trade is really old (8th printing, purchased sometime in the early 90s) and the quality is rather low, so I can't imagine it being much worse! As for the contents, that particular edition of the trade has virtually nothing for extra content beyond the base-text, so anything else would likely be an upgrade. Unless you care about original colours vs the redone colours. I have another video that goes way too deep into that and shows off the differences!
@@Upgradeyourbooks Is the paper and art on those book club hardcovers supposed to be larger than the paper on the paperback? I read that it was the same size.
That seems a touch high Turtle Anton. It looks like it is currently 140 here in Canada right now, but I’ve seen it drop down to 99 dollars a few times over the last two years. If you can wait, I’d advise some patience and suggest you wait for a great sale price. It’s not like it’s ever going out-of-print!
