Everybody I know among watch enthusiasts and sales people value greatly the Portuguese chrono over all the other variations. In house column wheel movement, well decorated, very elegant case at 41mm diameter and the price is very competitive even at retail. And on the secondary market, it's even worth shopping for a full gold model, they are great buys for a one and done dress watch.

The Portugieser line has a lot of hidden gems imo. It’s usually the pilots watches that get all the attention, but I managed to get hands on with the green Portugieser chronograph and it’s a stunning watch. Even the 40mm small seconds version is beautiful. I also saw the Iwc yacht club orlebar brown portugieser. Lovely watch. At some point I think I’ll definitely own a watch from the portugieser line. Just a matter of time.

I can 100% see you in an IWC Portuguese. Like your JLC & Speedy, this one is for true enthusiasts vs hype model buyers whose knowledge/interest begins and ends with pop celeb culture. Portuguese is for people who know. Have you looked at/considered the precious metal models? Bigger $ hit, but they’re drop dead gorgeous!

I previously owned a portugieser chronograph classic in anthracite grey. One to perhaps consider if you are looking for something with a bit of heft but not quite as large as the one you tried on. Happy hunting!
