“We’re definitely not the ones that should be paying the bill. It should be water companies that should be paying for their own mistakes”.
Water bills will rise to 40 per cent to tackle the sewage crisis, and the public are not happy to be paying this extra cost.

We made a lot of mistakes in Scotland but the water was kept in public ownership which has been shown to be a wise decision. Our water and waste disposal is not perfect, but what a mess privatisation has caused in England.

When water boards were privatized the water bills got more expensive and people accepted that because the driver for privatisation was that the private companies could update the infrastructure, but instead higher bills have been funneled into excessive corporate profits for executives and share holders

i remember people used to make the argument that privatisation would make it a more competitive industry, cheaper, and better service BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH. when in fact it was just a method to funnel all that sweet cash. Classic switcheroo

The companies were loaded with debt deliberately to extract profits - the regulators we've governments have been asleep at the wheel.

Privatisation has NEVER benefitted the public and this is a prime example of the cost of privatising utilities.

I just checked the informations that in UK the residents are paying the highest bills for the waters in Europe higher than in Cyprus or Spain this is like some kind of jokes absolutely appalling

I used to fly all over the UK in light aircraft and you could often see the darker lines of colour across fields where the water mains are leaking beneath. Very common sight.

The water Companies do NOT for fill their obligations correct and therefore should be made to either do so or be taken over for the sake of the environment, water is too precious resource to allow people to make vast profits from.😡

You need to check the shareholder of Thames water Pension funds from Ontario,British Columbia,Queensland , UK university staff and China So UK taxpayer will bailout retired teacher in BC,retired police officers in Ontario and retired nurses in Queensland but will have no money for pc,teacher,nurses in UK to inflation increase wages. Even 10% is left for China But I guess tories will argue again it is all Putins fault that we cant fund our own water supply

Water privatization was always flawed. No competetion for a start. My water supplier is an accident of geography not choice. Provision of clean water and removal of waste for the benefit of the community was the whole point of the Victorians when they established the current water systems. Its therefore surely the water companies core business requirement and any upgrades should come from their profits and investment. Invest to grow.

@@iggle6448 there is NO other party that can win or has a big enough voter base, the old people go to farages f@ascist party, and the young people go labour the rich old peopel who arnt as racist as farage fans go tory. young people hate farage and his cult, and hate the tories, if they dont vote labour we get another tory government, no other party coems even close. your way of thinking is what got usover 11 years of tories. @@iggle6448 the two parties that can bring the tories down are labout and lib dem. use a tactical vote calculator to see which is best positioned in your area to take the tories down. Farages racist group are dying outrt as they calmost completly are old people and no one likes his ideology, green party is dead in the water. use your brain. AND you would never get black or brown people voting for farage.

Its got nothing to do with 30 years of privatisation and lack of investment or the fact the population has exploded due to immigration. Lets not mention no new resovoirs since 1990. You know what i blame Brexit.

Population increase due to immigration, 0.46% over five years. In comparison, sewage release in those five years has gone up 2553%. Whilst Brexit greatly reduces environmental protections, the water companies' bonuses and lack of spending on infrastructure has been breathtaking.
