Dry out your carpet: insurance companies love this. Your carpet pad is ALREADY trashed if it is wet. It will begin disintegration. Also, I’ve seen a situation where the “dried out the carpet on one floor & popped the wood floor 1floor above from the humidity. Never trust insurance: they are always untrustworthy.

Always or never statements are only applicable is rare circumstances. Trust your own good judgment and THEN call your insurance to pay for it. Take names for the VERY FIRST PERSON you talk to, and all the other dozens of people to whom you are likely to speak AND write down a general and accurate statement of what is stated in each phone call, just in case they try to delay and/or deny your claim.

It always helps to contact a water remediation company too. They are the experts who know what can and can't be saved.

What about water damage from a shower being left on by friend running water so pipes dont freeze. Caused dampness in room which soaked the entire room and water lead into other areas.

Step 1.5 your plumber SHOULD be able to tell you if remediation and insurance is necessary and refer you to a remediation company. If the remediation company is good, they can help you with claim. Verbage used with insurance is extremely important to maximize coverage.

This just happened to me I had a plumbing clog leak, then the plumber got a mediation person to start demo, a contractor was airt tech company for asbestos and the plumber installed new pipes, and the contractor will start inspection next week but the mediation team wants money for demo and drying time I thought this seemed like a scam because the mediation took all the pictures and coached me how to talk to my adjuster. I paid air contractor, and plumber and the rebuild contractor is next but also the mediator wants a check and I saw this video and the mediator is not in the 3 people. Am I wrong or is the mediator team right. It seems like they get paid up to my deductible

Great video! Basic question: I have extensive water damage across both bathroom floors, requiring the tiling and subfloor to be removed and replaced. Will the insurance company cover the cost of replacing the shower and tub since they need to come out to replace the floor under them? Or should I plan to pay for that replacement out of pocket?
@ShineInsurance
@ShineInsurance 2 года назад
Hey Stephany! The only person who can answer this question is your claim adjuster. It generally depends on whether the adjuster feels they would be damaged when removed. I would push the adjuster to cover it though and, if they won't, ask for a clear assessment of how they are able to justify the lack of coverage. Kindly push the adjuster in the direction you need them to go. Ultimately, if an item wasn't damaged by the water, an adjuster likely won't cover it's replacement. But we've seen showers go both ways. Hope this helps.

I had workers here working downstairs by garage to install a sink for hot and cold inside my garage and the worker had to fix plumbing etc ,long story short,as they were drilling it caused the sprinklers to go off so everything downstairs in my storage area was soaked including my electrical equipment ,music speakers ,computers ,and the water also flooded into my den which had carpet ..Will my personal equipment that was all soaked in water be also replaced?
@ShineInsurance

Dang! That really stinks! Sorry you're dealing with that. You should definitely file a claim on your homeowners or renters insurance policy. The contractor should also file a claim on their General Liability policy. Between the two, your damage should be addressed.

Wait, your insurance will cover water damage? Mine told me to kick rocks when our sump pump failed and basement got water.
@ShineInsurance
@ShineInsurance Год назад
Bummer! You probably didn't have a special added coverage called Sump Back Up coverage. This is not included on a standard insurance policy and has to be added. We insist that our clients have it and any good insurance advisor would do the same. That's probably why though, right?

@@ShineInsurance they never gave that clear of an answer, just that it wasn't covered. Thank you for the advice, im listening to the video now and learning quite a bit. I wish my agent would've been this thorough. Thank you.

What happens if furniture got damaged?
@ShineInsurance

Great question! This is covered until your Personal Property coverage. The insurance policy would respond based on how the damage happened and how the policy is set up. Hope this helps!

I left a faucet running for three hours, as a result it over flowed!! Currently my unit is drying out, but will my insurance cover something that’s my fault!? The base board had to be removed, a few holes drilled with 10 fans going + a humidifier.

You should definitely file the claim. Water damage in this scenario may have coverage. Depends on the policy.

So i was called to repair some water damaged drywall which turned out to be a small patch on a ceiling. I found the toilet was leaking from broken closet flange and had rotted away a small section of subfloor and molded under the vinyl and under the tub which wasent sealed. So the woman calls her insurance company then tells me to provide an estimate with me being the only one who will be working on it. Im not licensed but know what im doing. Question is am i supposed to be working with her insurance company? They havent tried to call me and she gave them my name and number. Do i just give her the estimate and expect payment from her then she get reimbursed by insurance company? It is bugging me because my sister had a similar issue and her repair company apparently didnt get paid by the insurance company for almost a full year.. the repair company almost took my sister to court to pay when she kept asking and getting bullshitted by her insurance company saying they faxed stuff when they didnt and similar stuff.. but i cant go a year without getting the money. It has already taken me a week to remove the tub, toilet, floor, drywall and will take me a few more days to get the new shower in. And if i dont get paid for the week of work than im screwed. I had other jobs that woukd have paid the bills but she said she would pay me what i estimated or at least half then other half after completion but then she tells me that she filed a insurance claim.. tells me its a 1k deductible and my work is 1.5k then she has 800 of materials so filing a claim for 1300$ .. seems ridiculous to me but tells me that she cant pay me because the insurance company will negotiate pricing with me after she agreed and estimate was already out there with a week of work done already…. Should i burn the old ladies house down or let mine just go into foreclosure? Maybe i will part her car out and repair it when the insurance company finally pays me.. yea.. unless the insurance company cuts me a check upon completion otherwise itd be their fault if they promised me.. fuck life.. shits too hard dealing with all the nonsense and bullshit.. thought this was going to be a drywall repair but turned into way more.. and i helped out because she said she wanted me to fix it and would pay me.. but noo.. wtf.

How much experience do u have? Whether an aged veteran or a rook we all have times we are reminded of things we know we shouldn’t do . If ur policy is 50% down. U don’t ever waiver off this. Insurance check will be coming. , my parents will help pay, I don’t ever give 50% down, ect . No explanation will warrant u starting without 50%. If it’s financed is great and down payment is irrelevant. It sucks what ur dealing with , but it’s not worth Getting upset over. It’s nothing. U can make it up in a couple days. U don’t let it snowball into ur next jobs. Cut ur losses and move on. I’m not making light but I have had 2 major blunders in a year . I paid to work last year. Id contact insurance company, get started on something else til it’s resolved

Do the remediation company have to be licensed contractors.. the company I contacted is a licensed business but don’t have a contractors license
@ShineInsurance
@ShineInsurance 5 лет назад
kevin chile, some remediation companies are contractors some aren’t. If you go with a remediation company that isn’t, they will do the dry out but their work ends there. You’ll need to hire a contractor to rebuild whatever was damaged. For the remediation companies that are contractors, they do both the dry out and the rebuild. There’s nothing wrong with either option. Some people like to have one point person for the whole process. Others think two separate companies means each can be more focused which may mean they are better at the one thing they do. Hope this helps.

Is homeowner responsible for moving furniture
@Zoe.palomita
@Zoe.palomita 3 года назад
Content manipulation could be covered by your insurance policy, most contractors are okay with moving major pieces of furniture. In the end, there is a charge for everything and you decide if want to use that or not. I haven't heard of many contractors not help with moving furniture.
