Candle Jet Water Feature Construction
Part 4/6 - Internal Pipework
Internal pipework includes raising the cable conduit and the overflow pipe. The relationship between these two pipes is directly correlated to the volume of water that is inside the water feature inlet system.
In other words, when the water feature is turned on, the pump will push water from the reservoir through the inlet pipe & manifold, into the nozzles.
When the water feature is turned off, this volume of water in the inlet system will make its way back into the reservoir.
And to make things interesting, there is also a float valve which replaces the water in the reservoir that is pumped into the nozzles.
Meaning that the overflow pipe needs to be high enough so it doesn't direct water down the drain every time the feature is turned off, but also low enough so the water doesn't make its way into the cable conduit.
In fountaineering terms, this is known as water level control.
Next step is to pull cables through the conduit. The cable requirements for this particular feature are:
2 No 1.5mm² 3-core H07RN-F for 2 No pumps
1 No 1mm² 2-core H07RN-F for 4 No low voltage LEDs
Pro tip: always leave a spare pullcord in the conduit, in case more cables need to be added or replaced in the future.
The pumps detail includes a submersible supply pump, with an added valve for flow control. A UV pump is also added to treat the water in the reservoir. For optimal circulation, a hose is added to the pump which delivers the treated water to the opposite end of the reservoir. Suction at one end, outlet at the other.
The UV pump will keep the water clear, but it does not prevent algae growth in the feature. For a small water feature such as this one, a float dispenser can be left inside the reservoir with bromine tablets. Bromine kills contaminants a bit slower than chlorine, but they will last for a longer period of time. Meaning you will need to replenish them only once every 1-2 months - depending on the season.
PVCu pipework to comply with ISO 1452-3 - PVCu fittings for plastic piping systems.
Cables to comply with BS EN 50525-2-21 insulated and sheathed flexible cables.
