Water flow trick on two sides of the Equator. I think it's fake.

Excerpt from the series Long Way Down, Episode 5, starring Charley Boorman and Ewan McGregor. There is this guy claiming that moving 20m up or down the equator influences the circulation of water flowing out of a pan. I don't know how he does it, but I think he is cheating. The change in the Coriolis force would be so tiny even on a perfect sphere (one in a million), that it is impossible to have any influence on the water. The imperfections of the bowl, and his hand movements are certainly more relevant.

On the equator as soon as it started rotating anti-clockwise he picked it up and tried to stop it. It still continued lol.

it all depends on which side of the bowl you pour the water in. if you want it to go clockwise pour the water in the left hand side of the bowl. pour it in left side for anticlockwise. and slowly in the middle for no rotation or let the water sit for 5=10 mins for water to settle. try it we all have a bowl and water

And how do you four people feel about it now when it was proven to be true by Veritasium and Smarter Every Day -channels?

In the Veritasium video, the water flows anti-clockwise in Northern hemisphere. In the above video, the water flows clockwise in the Northern hemisphere!!

It is true but did you realise how long they had to wait for it to settle. The rotation of the Earth is such a little effect that any other force such as wind will change it.

Hilarious. Have you ever been south of the equator? I lived in New Zealand and I certainly didn't spend time taking the plug out of the sink somehow every time so that it swirled the other way. Buy a flight and prove it for yourself. 😂

This is a common tourist trick used by people near the equator. How the water is poured into the bowl, basin, sink, etc., has almost everything to do with which way the water swirls. It takes more that a bowl with a hole to demonstrate the Coriolis effect.

Yep, definitely fake. My guess is that he gets the water rotating by aiming it at the sides as he pours it, instead of at the center.

Don't tell people the truth let the dumb sheep believe the stupid tricks. Anybody with physics knows of course it's the way he pours it and the water will probably spend for another 2 minutes and that direction giving them plenty of time to drop a leaf or a toothpick in there

It's fake alright, all the aquatic vortices I've seen in Canada are counter-clockwise.
