I want to show you how to make a water area for Bees & Butterflies. This is a quick garden craft you can put together in about five minutes. Here is a list of supplies you will need.
Supplies List:
Water vessels (bird bath, saucer, pot etc)
Gravel and decorative rocks
Water
I use rain water, but you can use tap water, just allow it to sit for a while to let the chlorine to evaporate. Next pick a spot where it can stay put. This helps the bees find it every time they’re in need. They will know that it’s a reliable resource & continue use. Next fill your vessel with the gravel and level out. This helps fill in the area so bees & butterflies don’t drown, but also keeps mosquitoes from breeding. Next add your decorative rock if you are using them. Next add your water. The water should not puddle to much above the rocks. It should barely just cover. You don’t want anything to accidentally drown, or mosquitoes to have enough area to breed.
This five minuet garden craft will serve well in the garden season after season. It’s resourceful, quick to make, and gives the Bees & Butterflies a reliable water source. So until next time, Peace, Love, and Butterflies ✌🏼💝🦋🦋

My aunt has a cast iron cauldron that lays on its side, it holds a small amount of water, the bees love it, we had to move her last summer, and I decided I’m going to gat some cast iron pots at sales just for my garden. 🐝🐝🐝

If the stones are too smooth will they be too slippery for the bees?

This is nice, but it lacks nutrients. In nature you see butterflies drink from puddles with urine and manure in it. You can mimmick that with some compost, tiny bit of seasalt and a few cowdong grains (biol fertilizer) mixed in the water. 😉 Keep up the good work! Like to watch it.

The bees tend to prefer rain water to tap water here where I live

Every morning I make sure there's water in the bird bath slime grows in one day how do I keep the slime away? I have a rather large flat Stone that the birds can land on and that gets slimy too.

After it rains the container will be overflowing. Do you just tip it over a little to get rid of the excess water?

@@thenectarbar6461 , she's being facetious about when you're talking and say, "Um." You're fine! Thanks for the video! I learned to include rocks in my water trays after a wasp fell in. Still trying to attract large numbers of butterflies. I've seen yellow, and also black one's on my Petunias. Don't remember seeing any on the Lantana nor Sunflowers. Thanks again and keep all the fantastic videos coming! 🥰Peace...

I thought they like mud puddles not good to have standing water around the house for mosquito breeding and disease yuck
@thenectarbar6461
@thenectarbar6461 4 года назад
Joan Shealy the rocks prevent the mosquitos laying eggs. As long as your water isn’t sitting above the rocks, you won’t have mosquitoes. ✌🏼💝🦋🦋
