Water jerry can hack and the tap requires no power for the water to drain out.
This water jerry can hack is a game changer.
Very simple jerry can set up with a tap in the back of my 4WD.
This simple water jerry can hack can save you pulling the jerry can out from your vehicle, every time you need it!
This has made it so much easier to get water from my plastic water jerry can in my 4WD.
Now, i don't need to remove all of my camping gear from the back of my 4WD just to gain access to the tap on my plastic water jerry can.
The water jerry can tap, is a game changer and allows me to get water from my jerry can when ever i need it, either at camp or out on the 4WD tracks.

Great idea Tim, we run the same. We also rigged up one of those 5L garden pressure sprayer kits, removed the long metal rod and added a small shower fitting. Its portable and works a treat for having a quick wash. :)

Hi Tim, great idea! I was watching this and it reminded me of when I had a similar set up with a 25L container like yours (mind you, I don't have a drawer set up, so it was strapped into the bottom of the tray). You use a siphon hose, but I fixed the problem by buying a caravan sink water pump for about $15, cutting a hole to suit with a hole saw in the black (or maybe blue - large diameter) water container lid and then tightening up the plastic hex nut on the underside. Around 50cm of clear plastic tubing from Bunnings (suitable diameter to fit the bottom of the pump and long enough to reach the bottom of the container with a bit of spare) and pumped the water straight out, almost the whole 25 litres available before having to remove the (all but empty) container to refill. The pump is designed to allow airflow back into the container while pumping, so you don't have to worry about the container sides being sucked in. No mess, no drips, no water left in hoses when you have finished and it has worked a treat for years. I agree, taps in the bottom bung are a recipe for disaster.

G'day mate, Wicked reply on how you have set up your water tank. The caravan pump would be handy, thats for sure. Thanks heaps for your detailed reply mate. Cheers Tim.

Hi Tim, so what you need is: Jerry can, 2 mtrs of hose, 2 x taps, small electric pump, 3 mtrs of cable for the pump, 2 x bungs, a ratchet strap, a battery isolator, and a Sidcrome tool set >> actually, I think your setup is a little simpler!! Thanks for sharing mate - great idea, cheers.

Good idea young felah,l have a 60lt+ water bladder that l put on top of my full length aluminum roof rack with a garden hose hooked up,works like a treat when filling and emptying. I secure the bladder with a small cargo net so it doesn't move. I have a small caravan so it is handy just to go and get water without moving the van.

Brilliant.... manys a mouth full of diesal I've had over the years siphoning a bitta fuel ....lol , would have never thought to use the principle for a water bottle , and just thinking about it there is no reason why ya couldnt have a couple of water bottles beside each other and connected into one pipe with a few fittings like a 2 into one or 3or 4 into one system .... great vid tim ...
@timbates4wdadventures
@timbates4wdadventures 4 года назад
G'day John, That water bottle system does work well. Simple and easy. With the redesign thats going on in the back of my Patrol at the moment. I have repositioned the water bottle, and I've changed the fittings to make it better. When you mention stacking bottle beside each other, thats exactly what i will be doing. I have built a spot just for that set up to happen. Thanks mate for your reply and feedback, i greatly appreciate it. Cheers Tim.

Really, if the water drum is tightly secured to the cargo barrier, there shouldnt be a problem with the hose coming out. Ive certainly never seen it happen in all the years, except where its been loose in the vehicle. (Maybe a couple of those cam action Rhino Rack straps to your cage is better than just a bungy cord?)
@timbates4wdadventures
@timbates4wdadventures 5 лет назад
G'day Peter, I just feel if having the hose or a tap coming out from the bottom bung is not worth the risk. The way i have it set up, has the hose well up and out of the way. Just what i have found works for me. Thanks for your reply mate. Cheers Tim.

Unfortunately the plastic thread in the bottom bung hole is short and will not take a knock. Last trip my mate lifted the 15kg jerry by the top handle and steadied it with the tap jutting out at the bottom. Quick way to strip the plastic thread.

@timbates4wdadventures

G;day Ashley, Great idea mate. But if the water begins to leak out through the cap for some reason, then you loose all your water. So, thats why i would leave the bottle standing up. Thanks for your question mate. Cheers Tim.
