Air gap for dishwasher are dumb, someone behind a desk just thought it was a good idea . If you are a plumber and also able to think ..just imagine what it does and what would happen if there’s none … make little to no difference.
Just did this at work today, turned out I installed drain saddle for an RO backwards. Problem was I ended up creating a smaller drainage point coming from the air gap so it couldn’t drain at the rate of the dishwasher. Just had to check this out as a fellow tradesman in CA. Keep up the vids!
I did a service call out where the homeowner installed a new garbage disposal. He forgot to break the plastic knock out in the dw drain port before hooking it up the the air gap. I explained to him that they come sealed incase someone doesn't have a dishwasher. I hung out for a quick drain and fill to show him the difference.
Hey bud first time putting in a dishwasher, got everything in no leaks but when I plug in my garbage disposal it turns on automatically and I can't turn it off🤷 what do you think is going on? Ground on the dishwasher isn't right?
Yea like take the top off after stopping dishwasher and see if thats plugged. Then do what he said…. Shove something skinny into it to force it down or take a shop vac and suck it out. Why hurt your back or knees
Having an air gap prevents water from filling up in the dishwasher from the sink, should the check valve inside the dishwasher drain hose fail (which is common)
the hose going to my disposal is bent, that probably the reason why water is flowing from the airgap .. what is the size of that blackhose and the length i should get? 3ft should suffice i believe.
My hose is stuck on both ends after I removed the clamp. Do people add glue to the ends or could it just be stuck for not being removed after a while. I don’t want to force it since some parts appear to be plastic.
Saw no one replied to you.. no rubber can get weird as it ages. If you have a heat gun use that to soften the rubber or use a hair dryer. You want it to warm up and be soft.
So stupid to have these air-admittance turrets sitting on your countertop. This was a thing in the late 80s and early 90s and I always thought it was so dumb. Just connect it to the disposal. The disposal itself is a giant 3” air admittance valve that never closes.
Or.... it could be somebody didn't remove the read the instructions to remove the drain plug before installing a new disposal. could be. just saying...
