This video saved me today! Our civics tensioner pull-up bolt broke and the water pump and into the bracket. After watching this video we was able to tackle the job and not even have to look up torque specs! Life saver video🙏🙏 thank you-Chris

Finally a repair video that doesn't just say "to install, just follow steps in reverse", but actually includes torque specs along the way. Great content. Tackled this job in 4 hours (mainly waiting for the penetrating fluid to work)

Great Video here! You are obviously a seasoned pro tech. The way you talk about not rushing the job, using patience on stuck bolts, and use of torque wrenches to apply even torque on the pump and also makes it nice if somebody else ever has to go in there again. A+ job! I just happened to drop by because I bought a used Honda and wasn't familiar with this model motor and wanted to take a look before diving in. It will get the same treatment that you apply, been fixing cars for almost 30yrs now. Subscribed!!!

I loved the added humor TIP: I had to do this job on my kids car. After knowing someone and then helping him to fix a snapped tensioner pivot bolt. A few days before as soon as the car was parked for the night, motor still hot I would sprayed penetrating oil on the bolts I also Jacked the passenger side up to help get the oil to flow into the block. I did this about 5 times and used different Pent oils each time. When the time came for the 8mm Allen I just lowered the motor. I know my luck so why push it. It came out with an impact but didn't take a lot. Best of luck to everyone just take your time and follow this video and all will be good.

I moved to Texas from Chicago 35 years ago. I have forgotten just how rotten and rusty and corroded cars get up north! I have a 2010 with 170,000 miles and it looks brand new under the hood and the chassis. No rust and all the fasteners still have inspection marks and plating. I feel for you guys working on these rusty things. That said, I do pressure wash my chassis and engine at least twice a year. I can easily see leaks and it keeps the corrosion to a minimum.

Wow. Thank you. I felt like you were right by my side. I successfully changed the tensioner and belt. Parts were less than $100. Shop would have charged me $589. This is a professional video. (Luckily, my hex bolt came off easier than yours. Thanks for the warning and honesty on that one.)

Did the job today. The 8mm Allen key is an engineering fail. Awkward from above. Ended up dropping the motor down using about a can of PB blaster. Hit it with the big impact gun to no avail, and finally broke it loose with a breaker bar and 3 feet of pipe. Slow consistent pressure worked well. Once loose finished the removal with the impact. Back together quickly with the longest task being the install of the belt.

My car was overheating. Turned out to be a stuck closed thermostat. To test thermostat, submerge the side that has the springs in a pot of boiling water using a wire like a coathanger so you don't burn your hand. If it doesn't open, replace it. Do no let the thermostat drop to the bottom of the pot, else it might get damaged due to the excessive heat. Good luck!!!

Guys here's some tips, when you replace the water pump start adding coolant and checking for leaks, the video tells you to check for leaks when everything is back together which obviously is not right. if the water pump gasket won't stay in place just get some coolant on your finger and rub it around the gasket to make it stick

What is the exact size of the water pump pulley bolts? My 08 civic lx one the bolts keeps backing out bout halfway. My car made a clicking noise so took my tensioner ofd n was awful looking. Water pump pulley dug almost completely thru it. Plus pivot bolt was broke off i luckily got it out . ordered new bolt from Honda just like ur new pivot bolt and it was too small. So honda ordered another one which was diff too. Luckily a bolt shop had a bolt like my broken one. I got my car used so whoever worked on it musta put in a different bolt than the proper one smh. I replaced tensioner and still makes noises .noticed the bolt on water pump pulley loosened out again.

If I have a coolant leak, and it isn't at either of the hoses visible at the front, but there is coolant near the water pump, is it safe to say it is leaking from the water pump's gasket?

I had the same question. I've got a 2011 Honda Civic EX with 161,000 miles, but it's lived on the north side of Atlanta, Georgia and now Austin, Texas and has nothing like the rust seen in the video. So I'm hoping there won't be the same issues with that bolt coming out.

With his comment about not sure why the replacement was needed, can you give some details as to what the engine was doing that lead you to replace the pump? The reason I ask is I’ve got a 2006 that continues to overheat, the last thing to change out before doing a head gasket job is the water pump. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

320000 miles on my 06 Civic and the water pump decided to fail the weeper is leaking bad water pump still pumps coolant through the system but it just gushes out through the weeper. Lights pulse and flicker which tells me the alternator is going out as well. I noticed you guys went ahead and replaced the alternator. Thanks that shows me how to switch that out as well. @WildBikerBill
@WildBikerBill 4 года назад
While assembling, get some grease on the battery terminal bolt threads. After assembling, apply some grease or spray on some oil or wax over those terminals and check them every once in a great while and you shouldn't have problems. Where there's a lead-acid battery, there's almost always a corrosion problem if you do nothing.

@LemurMonitors
@LemurMonitors 4 года назад
One of the biggest reasons is safety - if the ground cable is still connected and you go to remove the positive lead it's a lot easier to hit a wrench, your hand, etc on the body of the car or other bare metal surfaces then you've got an unintentionally complete circuit.
