Thanks for the insights. While I have done a good many segments, I plan to thru-hike the CT this summer.

Thanks, Jason! A week out there is great. Do you know where you hope to camp? There's no shortage of awesome spots out there.

@@OutsideComfortZone we'll be around Twin Lakes for few days to hike up Elbert and Massive. Then we're going to head up to camp by Capitol Lake and climb Capitol

I did the Long Trail this year and I did purchase the book and map from the LT Club but in the end I really relied on the Far Out app. They had the trail information I needed plus the other hikers comments were very helpful. I guess I was expecting to use the app on this trail too. Did you use Far Out app and if you did how was it? Thanks again

Great question! I have used Far Out before and liked it, but I would definitely take the Databook as well. The Databook has a number of advantages over the app, but the app is GREAT for knowing which seasonal streams are still running. With this in mind, the app works best for folks who start mid-July or later because people have to hike the trail to report where water is and isn't running. Hope this helps!

If you have time and can comment on lightning danger ... that’s my biggest concern.

This is a really good one. I will do a video about this as soon as I can research it a bit more! Hope to see you sometime next week if we catch up on the trail!

That is my number one concern too.

Do you have any cooking tips that use little/no water?
@OutsideComfortZone
@OutsideComfortZone 3 года назад
Yeah man! Summer sausage, cheese, pita bread, oatmeal breakfast bars, and hummus if the trip isn't too long. When are we taking another adventure!?

Sometime in the fall when it cools down a bit. Are these types of meals intended for the early part of a through hike or do they last for several days? Does the weight versus dehydrated food matter much?
