When RPM is too high You will get a lot of air trapped inside, submerge the pump in water 1st.

Your main problem here is that the pump is partially full of air when you turn it on. This creates a lot of bubbles, turbulence, and low and high pressure regions. You could probably get a better kickback if you filled the pump with water completely before you turned it on

@Integza Some ideas to make this a bit more effective: 1: A slower, higher torque motor might actually be appropriate here. If you look at your footage inside the centrifugal pump, you see a lot of bubbles, these are probably due to cavitation, which is robbing you of output pressure. 2: Your impeller appears to be backwards. 3: You probably want your impeller to get closer to the walls of the pump.

Water is not that compressable, however, gasses, are. If you have a pressurized cylinder of gas and discharge it into your sealed reservoir, the liquids will be accelerated out at a high velocity. The nozzles can then be optimized to direct that water. FDM nozzles may be better for the pressure than resin ones. They have more give. Do this before you mill something out of metal.

I have 13 years experience in the RC hobby and when you brought out the "monster" motor, I nearly shat myself and thought, "he is gonna hurt himself". Then you did your first test and I was like, "HOW TF IS IT NOT BLOWING UP?!?" then you charged your battery lol!

It only seems to explode when air gets into the system, maybe increase flow or pressure into the inlet of the motor? Maybe put the motor acrylic side up and mount the reservoir directly above it, i think that might be the easiest way to increase intake pressure. Cavitation will prolly still occur at high speed tho so idk 😅

Idea : Try to make an actual combustion piston engine when you learn to cut metal on the CNC

Future video theme: instead of using liquid fuel or solid fuel, you should use a semi-solid fuel/ slurry like coal-water slurry, which is just a bunch of fine coal particles suspended in water, and is highly combustible.

I'd love to see this as a boat, using the water it travels on rather than have water stored.

You need a MUCH bigger inlet to your pump to reduce cavitation. Also make the nozzle longer to help facilitate more laminar flow of the water.

I love this. The inefficiency here is staggering. A 2,000 watt motor and you could piss faster than that water moves. You are really choking your pump with the inlet pipe being way to small. Eventually you should make a proper pumpjet! That would be awesome.

Id honestly like to see this redone, with a more efficient design and a lower power motor, I feel like that would be the key to your success. Also better sealing of all intake area to reduce air binding would be incredibly helpful and a longer nozzle to allow the pump to build head pressure.

By the way, from less important to crucial; * You should change the propeller design. * You can increase the thicknesses to avoid fails. * You must increase the downstream length and decrease the diameter of the nozzle. Lol it's funny how you used an RPG in the animation, since the grenade, as the name says (Rocket Propelled Grenade) is propelled by a rocket and the launcher is just there to aim it and set it off, so it wouldn't have recoil.

Video idea: Make a boat that uses the tesla turbine in reverse so it propels the boat forward, this can be done by submerging the bottom half of the disks in water.

Video Idea: Put a water jet on one side of the skateboard and a jet engine on the other and have them push against each other to see which is has more thrust.

Try to use a closed impeller with the nozzles in a small diameter (outlet smaller than inlet). Always install centrifugal pumps drowned, to get some water pressure and not cavitate.

I think you should revisit this topic. Take a look on how a turbo impeller is designed. You can get more structural support on your blades by adding a plate close to the motor side and if you put the blade on a diagonal you could get more thrust out of a less powerful motor.

Video Idea: Cold casting: a long time I saw few videos on RU-vid regarding casting a resin part using silicon moulds, the fun part was that they were using steel powder mixed with the epoxy resin so the final product was a "metal like" part which later on they sand it and apply acid so the model looked rusted. I search alot on RU-vid and was not able to find any scientific test on this method, what are the propreties of this type of material ? are they magnetic ? can it conduct electricity ? are the mechanical proprieties similar to steel ? and finally: what temperature can it handle ?. The ideia is: 1 - to print a 3d model. 2 - make a silicon mould using this model. 3 - create a mixture of epoxy resin and steel powder (20/80 for example) 4 - cast this mixture in the mould and test the final product. I had this idea watching your videos and all the times you use the porcelain resin, to be honest I don't think will work for temperatures above 500ºC because the highiest temperature resin that I found was around that. Never the less all the others possible proprieties are very interessing, being able to "print" metal parts seems very interessting. Hopefully someone will read this comment, If you read until here please forgive my english since is not my mother language and let me know what you think about this idea, i really wanted to test by myself and record the process but I don't have the tools (aka 3D printer). Leave a like if you think it's a good idea and hopefully Integza see and make a video for us.

Video idea: Since you seem to love rotating forces, let's exploit the momentum. Build a gimbal with 2 rotating disks shifted by 90 degrees (X and Z axis stabilization) and use their momentum to cancel the vibration induced by the camera operator.

A lot of the pumps energy was wasted due to air being on the pump. It needs to be properly primed first.

Idea: 3D print a gearbox for that monster so you can create some high torque! Might need to use your CNC to make some aluminium gears though for the high torque end...

You can look up the best speed and feed rates for the materials you want to cutt. You also have to take into consideration the diameter and number of cutting teeth to help figure out the correct rates. Should be able to do this for literally everything

I think a fantastic Idea could be re-visiting this project in the sense of a benchmark system for trying new ways to strengthen prints. I'd love to see something like this succeed with printing!

Well I think you should go even more simple with the “throwing stuff for propulsion” and make a catapult or cannon powered skateboard. The catch: the projectiles are tomatoes (of course).

The impeller's design is what is causing it to break, not the speed. Your blades are perpendicular to the incoming water, so you're pretty much just 'slapping' the water 3000 times per second as it enters the pump. You're also creating a lot of cavitation (imploding bubbles behind the blade) which eats your blade away. Angle the blades at the centre of the impeller, so it scoops instead of slaps, and then gradually let it straighten out as you go to the outside and to the bottom. Also, build the impeller blades on a cone instead of a straight shaft. The bottom centre part of the impeller is't going to do much work, so you're better off using that space to smoothen the flow.

I'd love to see a super soaker using something like that pump 😄 Just imagine a big water reservoir on top (Plastic drink bottle?) and the battery in the "clip". Unrestrained summer fun! 😁

THE ULTIMATE JET ENGINE INVENTION!!!!! A generator in the center, and the jet engine on a rotary arm, going in circles to power the generator. (Much kewler than an internal combustion generator!!!)

Your impeller needs a "backing" like you did for your turbo impeller. That would help it stay together. You can also add a front to it like many water pump and vacuum cleaner impellers have. Should allow it to achieve higher rpm. Also see the compressor wheel in the Schreckling jet engine. And of course, your water intake should have been lower. Any water below the intake was just dead weight.

try creating a turboprop engine fueled off of propane, especially now that you have a CNC machine to create metal parts

You should print a more direct copy of a turbo impellor and casing, you'd get more power output and less cavitation due to the smoother flow provided by the blade shape. May even help with the impellor exploding due to excessive rpm, because there would be more load on the impellor since it'd pushing more dense water instead of less dense cavitation bubbles, thus slowing the rpm.

Try making a steam-powered car! Have a boiler, that feeds into a turbine, which then powers the wheels.

Idea: Strap a high power laser to a CNC/3D printer and see if you can cut a 2x4!

Turn the rotor/impeller around so that the fins arch the other way. This will make the impeller more aggressive, drawing the water in and forcing it out much faster.

Back in the 60's my Dad, who was an Air Force pilot, one of the handful assigned to the first jet fighter squadron established after WW II, found and bought a toy water rocket kit for me. You filled a hard plastic rocket shaped (fins and all) cylinder half way up with water. Then you attached it with a slide lock to a very simple hand air pump. It did seal well, so that you could pump air into the cylinder without it leaking out, then slide the lock back and it would jet into the air. It was amazingly good at this.
