You really have to recognize the talent that goes into being in a 1A band. I’m in one and it is HARD! You really have to be on top of everything because any mistake is much more noticeable in a small band.
That was a pleasure to watch! What a fabulous group of kids! I was in high school band, as were two of my daughters, and we saw a lot of bands at competitions, all of them many times bigger than this band, but these guys could have competed with any of them! I know this is old, but if they ever see these comments, they should be proud!
This is something else. I can't help but appreciate that the guy in the suit (I can't tell if that's the drum major or not but it probably is) switches from bari to alto, then conducts, then plays. Love small bands like this, and coming from a 1A band myself I can say for sure that everything needs to be perfect to sound good. This is truly one of the best 1A performances I have ever seen.
One of my very favorite small band performances. The quality of sound that they produce is amazing. Very confident players! And the marching is on point!!!! Difficult maneuvers while maintaining the quality of sound is impressive. I also love that despite not having a color guard, they are able to add to their GE score with the use of the hand and arm swings. Outstanding!
It is so weird that 1A bands are so small now. I came from a small town and EVERYONE it seems was in the band. Please search Crowell High School Band 1975 or 1976. We were the 3rd largest 1A band in the state. Seagraves was 1st and Holliday was 2nd. I love this band from Water Valley! They certainly rocked it for such a small band and so deserved to be in the State Competition.
It’s the smallest one in Texas I go to this school but know in 2020 the band is huge so many players all the clarinets are out only a few tubas and that’s it is huge now
