In the Studio with Michele Webber For scoring lines...may I suggest an XCut 4 in 1 embossing pen? Very cheap on EBay and I wish I had bought one sooner! It’s really good for fine details such as leaf veins.
Michele, you are the best!!! You make the best videos!! Very informative. You are very good at explaining things I have been trying to work out on my own. Been very frustrated, but these are techniques I'm very excited to try! Thank you so much!!
Michele thank you for taking time to make, edit and plan these videos. Can you do one on layering color? I learned today why my leaves have drying lines. What a help!
Thank you Michelle you're such a brilliant teacher..I only came across you by chance your lessons with clear demonstrations are just so perfect to get to understand the basics of drawing/painting. I hope you continue to share your skills with us. Well done!
Thank you for sharing your own finished paintings with us -- so beautiful and generous. It helps me see the techniques you present so clearly in their finished painting context. (I'm a visual learner.) Thanks again for another well done video.
Michele, I enjoyed all of these techniques. But the red pencil up the middle and red paint spreading from the middle and the curled over leaf techniques are wonderfully helpful. Thank you so much once again. 🥰
Thank you Michele. I have been water color painting for about 2 months and have learned so much from your tutorials. Loved this leaf tutorial! I hopefully will be able to apply these techniques to my paintings! My favorite was the turned under edge but many others were equally as good.
Thanks Michelle I enjoyed your tips and my favorites were how to use Watercolour pencil over damp paint! Also graying/blue for the background ghost leaves. Thankyou Christine 😊
My fave was the last two leaves - the ghost leaves and changing up the color for the backside of the leaf. I don't currently have watercolor pencils, so I've been going in with thicker paint when the leaf is almost dry and nearly achieving the same effect - not quite, this could be a time I might use a liner brush... :) Thanks for your guidance!
Thank you so much for doing leaves. I mostly have got them wrong but will now improve with this lesson. Am really enjoying your lessons. Do you do summer school in your studio?
Enjoyed the variety of leaves & methods used, decided before going on with “trees & foliage” module, to look up your greenery videos as support learning. Interesting, glad I watched, will now practice before continuing! Thanks. As, I also don’t own any oil pastels, could you recommend which colours to buy as a starter. I’ve a white wax candle, & cheap crayons but, I guess I won’t get the results you’re showing us. Thanks
Thanks Michele for coming to my rescue....I had been struggling with leaf painting....I tried your techniques and I am amazed at the results...Thanks Michele...you are an excellent tutor..How do you produce the sheen on the leaf produced by sunlight on it?
@@IntheStudiowithMicheleWebber thanks...based on your tutorials I have painted a few leaves...I am v pleased with the result....thanks a ton for your help..I wish you could see them..
Great advice! I was particularly interested in watching this tutorial because my next project is a pair of Macaw parrots. As you may know they have long tail feathers - much like a leaf. Ordered a #10 brush!!!
Hi Michelle, I just painted a tree and had a problem with the edges of the leaves being overlapped by the background that I painted first. Have you any tips on painting the background with leaves on top? Thanks.
The main thing is to not leave hard edges behind. So just fade/lighten your sky as it comes down and take it all the way to the horizon/bottom. Only stop it if there's something like a building in the way. The green leaves will just sit on top of the pale blue.
Can u use a fork to score I'm afraid to use the ecta scoring knife due to shakey hands....I dont know why I'm shaking hands cant be that my country is in chaos run by a 45 person who just doesn't get it.. mikelle...newyork strong😷👏🦋
Concentrate on the things you can control, that's what I try to do. I am actually a very close follower of US politics, but I rarely comment on social media because it causes arguments. However I am convinced you will feel better in November, and better still in January ;-) Meantime just stay safe. You can use anything with a hard point for this technique, including a ball point pen with no ink, or a pin. I do find that you get a less strong result with a blunter point but it's worth trying out.
This video was some kind of karma.I've been hung up on leaves for the past few months. My favorite is the one with the curled tip-so realistic. When brings me to my problems-most leaves are not flat. Some fold/curve in-some curl backwards. How do you use watercolors to simulate that form & depth?
I'm 32 and I didn't realize until I came across this channel how much I miss my art teachers from middle/highschool. :) Thank you for not putting the actual lessons all behind a pay wall.
I have a brush that I used a pencil sharpener on the end that I use for scoring instead of bringing a knife near my painting. It works beautifully and when I use my nicer brushes that don't have it I'm always reaching for it. Also thank you for such wonderful videos. Alot of RU-vid is repackaged info over and over but I'm learning so much from your videos that is new to me that no one is talking about thanks so much
Great tips, thank you! I especially liked; using a watercolor pencil to put in veins or outline bug bites, and using a bigger brush to help prevent drying lines. I've struggled with drying lines while using small brushes, so this is a wonderful tip.
I have used the "ghost leaf" without knowing exactly what I was doing. I added more blue to my green but lightened it with water. I was quite pleasantly surprised with my outcome.
How about a dagger brush or a cat tounge brush? I am just 12 weeks painting and have oh gee 20 brushes now. My head spins trying to find things. I did find a nice quill brush that i really like.
(Re-visiting this video down the line). Fame hungry pigeons - classic!! You are a talented artist, tutor and (subtle) comic Michele. Love love love your videos - you've taught me so much and made me titter along the way! Thank-you xxx
Once again, another excellent and informative video. It's hard to choose a favorite, as I am a beginner and haven't tried all techniques. But.... I do like the caterpillar lunch leaf, as it tells a story.
Michelle, thanks for this tutorial! You don't talk too much or too fast. As opposed to some other tutors, everything you say tells me why you do it the way you do it, which is very important to know. I liked the leaf underside, the scoring and the basic watercolor tips which you blended into your discussion of each tip. Again, thank you!
I adore working with greens! I have a watercolour pad dedicated to mixing my own greens and it is amazing how many different shades you can create. 🌿🌱☘️🍃🍀🪴
Thank you Michele. Flowers and leaves are not my favorite things. Wonderful tutorial. My favorites are the craft knife dark veins and the ghost leaves. Love those ghost leaves!👍💜
What are your choices for brush fibers? What brands? Vegan or real???? More information on brushes please. I just came to the conclusion arter years of painting that a really good brush in a bigger size is what i should have been using forever. So now i am looking to replace my size 6 isabey round kolinsky sable..HELP....thsnk you for any advice.
Hi Majorie, I only use synthetic brushes, not only because I am vegan but I prefer the 'spring'. Some good brands are SAA Silver (if you are in the UK, if not you may be able to source on Amazon), If you want something that feels more like animal hair SAA also have Synthetic Sable. Daler Rowney Dalon, Daler Rowney Graduate are also a possibility, very cheap though won't last as long. I am also going to be issuing a branded Brush set with Jackman's Art Materials shortly, but meantime I can recommend their Synthetic brushes too. If you go to their website you can use my discount code MICHELE10 to get 10 percent off. www.jackmansartmaterials.co.uk I hope that helps :-)
I have used Saunders Waterford mostly, but am trying some new brands at the moment. If you are a beginner Bockingford is okay too. Jackmans do nice synthetic brushes, I never use animal hair because of the cruelty. www.jackmansartsupplies.co.uk discount code is MICHELE10 for 10% discount :-)
@@IntheStudiowithMicheleWebber to me is like flash in photography... buy I am not adamant about anything in particular. BTW I enjoy your videos and learn a lot! And a plus to hear your neat British accent!
