This is a trip me and my family got to take in summer! Friends of the family own this hidden magical tuscan villa surrounded by olive trees and it's the most peaceful and secluded place you can imagine. Perfect for getting lost in watercolors and art making with my sister for days and days and days!
Check out my instagram for more art! www.instagram....
And all music is by David Fesliyan!

(Tragic EMO 🖤 back story warning) I quit drawing two years ago. While I wasn’t a master artist, I loved to draw and it was the only hobby I had. I quit because I knew my drawings weren’t as good as the people my age, and I was put under pressure to go to a high school that majored in fine arts, and I realized that I had no other hobbies or anything I was remotely good at. (It’s silly, I know LOL.) I do not draw anymore because it stresses me out, so in my free time, I immerse myself in video games. I can’t even watch art creators on RU-vid. I’m here because before, I loved watching creators on the internet make their art and it inspired me to draw as well. I’m not even twenty yet so it’s not the end of the world, but it feels like mine, in a sense, is crumbling.

Aww man, I am sorry to hear that Leia. I hope it comforts you to know that most of us have been there. Even today I struggle with comparing myself to others and it truly sucks so much joy out of our beautiful craft. But you are so young and still have so much time and opportunity to grow as an artist at your own speed, especially if drawing and painting is something that you truly enjoy. Here’s some thoughts and tips that I learned that helped me deal with that (because especially as a twin I really struggled with unhealthy competitiveness and it’s just so not fun 😂) 1) try to remember why you started, and why you enjoy it. You might think that your goal is to impress others or be better than most people at drawing, but I am sure there is another deeper reason. What’s the show or the art book or music that really inspires you? What made you want to create in the first place? For me it always was observing animals and being in cool places. It’s that inspiration that keeps me going, and not what my classmates or bosses or friends think of my art. Try to reconnect to that! 2) try painting and drawing without posting or sharing on social media or showing it to anyone. Not sharing your art for a while can really lift the pressure and helps you connect with that true spark again that I mentioned earlier I think 3) if you are an innately competitive person like I am, shift your mindset from competing with other people your age or other artists in general to competing with yourself in the past. How much can you impress the you from two months ago? Make yourself from the past really proud!! Keep sketchbooks and write the dates on your drawings and paintings to keep track of your growth over time and it will be far more healthy than comparing yourself to some other artist. Everyone is on a different journey and has different speeds so it makes really no sense to compete with anyone else but yourself. 4) be kind to yourself! Art making is hard and painful sometimes, and it can be so draining to force it if you are not feeling it. But if you listen to your body and focus on yourself and your own little journey I am sure you will find a healthy and motivating way to reconnect to drawing again :) I believe in you! You try and do the same ❤️☺️ And being kind to yourself also catching yourself when you are beating yourself up too much. Playing video games is a wonderful hobby! It can be inspiring and calming and fills your mind with way more creativity than just doomscrolling Instagram would. So you can own that I think! I wish I was more into video games honestly 😄 Okay I really hope that helps in some way maybe. I hope you can get out of that rut and maybe even get back into a hobby that you truly enjoy without all the self doubt and comparing yourself. It’s probably gonna be a longggg journey, but I believe you can do it because me and my friends did it too! All the best and I am sending a hug!

Thanks so much!! The sketchbook I use is just a no name brand that was sold at Boesner which is a German art supply store so that one will be hard to find, but I also use the green Arches watercolor paper and watercolors by Schmincke :)

Hello, I just wanted to ask that how often would you suggest to practice to get into CalArts or to get to that standard as I am always feeling like I am never doing enough.

Hello! I think trying to do something every day helps, even if it’s just a Little Bit! For the longest time I only managed to squeeze in some sketching on the subway every day but I still tried to keep that up and I think that really helped. And don’t be too hard on yourself. I still today feel like I am never doing enough, and in a way that’s what helps us push ourselves too!
